Kimi ni Todoke is about a girl named Kuronuma Sawako. She is nicknamed Sadako (from the ring) because many people see her as strange and often mistake her for a ghost. A boy called Kazehaya kun becomes her friend and, to her, is "100% refreshness."
Kuronuma Sawako is nicknamed Sadako due to her resemblance to the girl from the Japanese horror movies "The Ring". Shunned by her classmates, her life starts to change as she befriends Shōta Kazehaya, a very popular boy in her class.
Kuronuma Sawako’s one wish in life is to make friends. That’s a difficult proposition when everyone who meets her cowers in terror. She admires her classmate, Kazehaya-kun, a popular, easygoing and 100% refreshing guy who is nice with everyone, even with her.

I have just seen the live-action movie made from this series. It actually is a very good movie which makes something like the hopeless dragonball z and space battleship yamato look like junk. The actors are not of the highest level available but still are above average. They seem to enjoy their work and give off a pleasant feeling while watching.
I am going to give this a big recommendation if you like the series. The movie gets a big 8 out of 10 from me.

Almost a year later, I've finally decided to finish the second season.

Story wise is probably one of the slowest I've ever seen. And here I thought season 1 was slow but this easily takes the cake with Sawako's and Kazehaya's confession scene being put off for 9 full episodes. The long and dragging story is what really hurts this show. While the show really does take off from episode 10 onwards, it really took too long to keep my interest even with ending on a high note.

Animation and art was even more gorgeous than that of the first season. Fantastic quality by I.G. It's a shame they didn't manage to keep this up with a number of their other titles this past year though.

Music also returned stronger due to the higher tension and larger amount of drama scenes. Nothing to say about seiyuu since they remained the same.

Enjoyment? There's a reason why I stopped watching this about 2/3 of the way through before finishing this. It's a beautiful show but this really should have just been tacked on at the end of season 1 or spun off as an OVA instead of creating a whole new season for it.

Overall, it's still one of the best shoujo titles out there but didn't live up to expectations that season 1 left off with sadly.

Preliminary Score: 8/10
Final Score: 8/10

I ended up giving it a 7/10, because I rate based on how much I enjoyed a series. It was good, but I found myself pulling my hair out more than I was enjoying it. The misunderstandings dragged on for way too long in my opinion, and it was hard to watch at times.
Still, it had a satisfying ending, with sparkles and lots of blushing It could even end here, without a 3rd season because it wrapped up so well. I may read the manga to see what else happens; I'm especially curious about what will happen between Ryuu and Chizu.

QUOTE (nijlandp @ Apr 01 2011, 01:46 PM)
Sure guys can get very nervous around the girl they like but this was a bit extreme since he does have a strong character. It felt like the writers overdid the shyness a bit.

Was it really shyness?

I think the problem rather was, that Kazahaya got the wrong impression that Sawako doesnt see him in a romantic way. Then I can understand he was reluctant to tell her. I mean, who would voluntarily get himself rejected...... he thought he knew her answer and she would always get so upset, when he tried to tell her how he feels so he decided against confessing.

I must say I dont share the general enthusiasm for the second season. Whereas I would give the first season a 9/10, the second gets a 6/10. But tahst still good, because I am hard to please.

So all ends well . It was frustrating to see them bungling around for a few episodes. That part really dragged along which did hurt the overall impression of the series.
Fortunately even if that was annoying it was to be expected from Sawako...she is afraid and clueless about almost everything. The only weakness was with Kazehaya..even if he is nervous about his feelings for Sawako it felt too long from his point of view. Sure guys can get very nervous around the girl they like but this was a bit extreme since he does have a strong character. It felt like the writers overdid the shyness a bit.
In all it was a pretty good season but it wasn't as good as the first season for me.
So i am going to give it a 8.5 out of 10 (the first season i would give a 9 out of 10).

As for a third season i think i wouldn't mind an ova or two to seem their first kiss or visit to Sawako's parents or something like that. A third season would be too much and would only ruin the series.

The last two eps were really good. A good ending to a not so good second season.

Everything got wrapped up and the rivals made their leave. Im really surprised that Kurumi "protected" Sawakos and Kazehayas Relationship. The things she said were exactly true and she knew that it was herself she said it to rather than the other girls.

Just like wedora I think it would be best to stop here since it ended nicely and a third season could destroy it all. And I mean them dating wont be that different as it is now and I dont want to see their slowlyness again like it was for most of the time in S2.

Overall this season gets a 7/10 (the end saved it), first got a 8/10 and together a 8/10.

Well that was a damn good ending. I really like the way they wrapped the series up, with good foreshadowing into their future. For once I'm not angry that it didn't at least end with a kiss, because the kiss would have felt rushed and forced and not really suited the situation. I also think that they definitely shouldn't do another season, since it wrapped up very well and ended on a clean note. Sometimes the downfall of a success is clinging to that success far too desperately (see many a S2).

The series really dragged and almost hurt for a few early eps, and it is a little slower than I'd like in general, so I think I'll have to give this one an 8/10, same thing I gave the first season. On the flip side, the reason the ending was so heartwarming and satisfying was because of that depression in the show..maybe it shouldn't fit into the rating? Ehhh....mayybe 9/10...matching Itazura na Kiss.

Well, my heart was fully warmed by this series.

Great memorable characters all around and Sawako was just adorable start to finish. I think the best thing about the show was the Kazehaya's representation as a super-cool, confident guy who turns super-shy and insecure when he's around the girl he likes. Very nice, I thought. And in the end I loved all the misunderstandings. Even the absurd ones.

No I'm going to watch the live-action movie.

Yaaaaaahhhhh, i finished watching the last 2 episodes today. It felt a little random, bits here and there, but it was nice.

Even Kurumi and the blond guy had some screen time...... I just wished Ryu and Yoshida had some as well. I mean, the only thing we got was that half hearted confession from Ryu, which he played safe and said it was a joke. Ah well, nothing is perfect.

Other than that the end seemed to be pretty wrapped up, so I dont expect this anime to have a 3rd season.
