| QUOTE (Megiddo @ Apr 06 2010, 11:19 AM) | As before, I'm only going to watch the Eclair and Lumierre parts.
Would someone be kind enough to tell me if they only appear in episode 22 or also in 23/24 as well? |
They appear from 22 onwards. There is also one scene in the earlier episodes where they were shown as part of Chevalier's memory (I think around episode 12)
| QUOTE (Shwarz @ Apr 06 2010, 09:32 AM) | | yea sure i will, cause im kinda interested in what happened before. But i doubt that i find it in 720p since its an oldie |
What's the point of even thinking about shows in 720p prior to 2008? 2007 is borderline, but that's besides the point. Just watch in good old 480p. There was nothing wrong with shows being in 480p if you ask me. The only thing that has really changed is the fact that screens and characters have more detail, but otherwise anime is still anime and reality is still reality....

Anyway thanks for these, i really dont mind shows like these nice story, nice animation overall a bit of sci fi, a bit of action and drama thats all it has and its good enough for me, thou its not that exciting as Railgun was. |
Watch the original Kiddy Grade if you want to be more impressed. Probably not to the level of Railgun, but it was definitely more fun watching that than this "sequel" |

Apr 5 2010 11:56 PM speak of the devil, the final two episodes are out. episode: So with that, episode 23 was good, but 24 was just awful. Things felt very cliche and even though there was much more screen time of Eclair and Lumiere, the ending played out quite poor. review: The story overall made some significant improvements halfway through but the ending really killed off most of that, which is a huge blow since had the series ended with more of a bang like Kiddy Grade, the series may have had a greater impact given it's already low viewer rating due to the poor introduction episodes.
The animation was pretty bad in the last couple episodes. Although it's a possibility of the raw itself, this was definitely nowhere near Satelight's usual quality of work, especially after seeing the likes of Basquash! and Macross Frontier. Ironically, the worst episodes in the series were the episodes that ended up having the best animation quality. Talk about setting your priorities. If anything that bugged me and most others, it was the last minute change in character design for Ascoeur, whose original design apparently partially went to Pauk.
Music wasn't really anything exceptional. Voices were moe and glad to see that they brought back most if not all the original seiyuus for returning characters from Kiddy Grade. Really glad to see Eclair and Lumiere return with original voices too (mind you all, Lumiere was one of Aya Hirano's better roles).
Character development wise...this was really all over the place. They really ended up not dwelling into a lot. Most of the development felt like "oh by the way" type storytelling, especially with Geachter in the final episode when he gave his powers to Ascoeur. Not to mention that the whole thing with Ascoeur getting the abilities of time and space out of nowhere was really just not the right way to go about things, especially since Q-feuille ended up coming in about a minute later to help her....
Enjoyment? Lots of ups and downs moreso than any other series this season. The beginning was god awful, especially for someone who had watched all of the original Kiddy Grade. Basically, after waiting 8 years since the original series along with 3 years after the pilot teaser, the first episodes were filled with modern day stereotypical moe-fest, which was a huge turn-off. Not to mention that the action was very minimal until about episode 6 or 7, which even then was almost garbage. The series then began picking up when the whole "I am your father (brother in this case)" story began to unravel. Although it was a bit dull at first, I did enjoy some of the back story, especially moreso to what happened earlier on in the series. Things then went up and down for the remainder of the series with some good episodes, some bad episodes, etc...Whether this was one of the more enjoyable series relative to everything else this season, probably not. I didn't look forward to a new episode each week like I did with Baka to Test, Railgun, or Inuyasha, but I definitely had more interest in watching this than say Chu-Bra, Ladies versus Butler, or Seikon no Qwaser.
Overall, like I said this series could have easily turned itself around at the end if it weren't for that bizarre ending where things happened and they decided to explain nothing. As awesome as seeing Lumiere and Eclair return, it really wasn't worth waiting 22 episodes for. I was really hoping that once Lumiere and Eclair were freed from the time space and Q-feuille and Ascoeur stopped Geachter, that Lumiere and Eclair would be the ones who would end up save the galaxy/stop the bomb. Of course, their role ended up being very minimal despite appearing so much in the epilogue cosplaying and teasing everyone like they use to.
For those wondering, here's Ascoeur's original character design (light blue hair): http://myanimelist.net/character/6098/Ascoeur/pictures
Anyways, this series could have deserved a 7 for finally picking up, but after that ending it's going to be bumped to a 6/10
All in all, so much for a Kiddy Grade 2. This title really deserves to stay as Kiddy Girl-and. The rewatch value is extremely low and unless you really don't mind mediocre sci-fi shows, stay away from this. Heck, the fact that Gonzo 2002 did better than Satelight 2010 really amazes me. |
