I just got around to finishing this. While I enjoyed it, I couldn't help but notice that it seemed like it was a mash-up of the concepts between Haibane Renmei and Baccano. Just me.

The Another Epilogue episode was fantastic. Despite being only a couple minutes long I really liked the alternate ending where Otonashi stayed behind. Whether or not this may clue into the rumored sequel is another issue, but one thing for sure is that I'm glad it cleared up the debate over whether or not Otonashi actually left the world in the final episode of the main series. This epilogue indicates that he did in the main series but stayed behind in this ending. As for whether or not I want a sequel is really up in the air for this show. It has potential if Jun Maeda continues to provide the story, but I feel the show is already conclusive enough as is and there isn't really much more to add.

As for "episode 14", the only thin I really have to say about it is that it's bad. The episode takes place around episode 4 or 5, basically right before Kanade joins the Battlefront and around the exam period (because of the whole Takamatsu "incident"). The episode is primarily for laughs and giggles with a tone of Yuri fanservice. My primary guess is that this is mainly made for those who were disappointed that Otonashi "chose" Kanade in the end and was hoping for more of a Yurippe centered show. Putting my bias for Kanade and Yui aside, the episode overall was dumb. Although I enjoyed how it said "Bad End" at the end of the episode, I thought the episode was poorly made overall and considering that it was put on the final Blu-Ray volume, I kinda expected more out of it. To be honest, not a good way to end the franchise assuming it's the end aside from the game being planned.

I was really hoping the OVA would be an episode that showed everyone's new lives but I guess they couldn't even do that.

Just watched the special and just like everyone thought we didnt get a ep about the backstorys of the characters who didnt get some in the series. Only a useless comedy ep. Sure there were some laughs, but overall it was plain stupid.

4/10 from me. Only good thing was that we got to see Hisako a few times. But that was it.

But the alternative ending was great. But I hope they wont make a second season. And I think its the first time Im actually hoping not to get one.

Ok after watching the special episode I have to say that Yuripe can play a good villian out of all of that. Not only that but seeing that the Tension Meter thoughout most of the episode made it worth while.

Also, for the short Another Epilogue that pretty much sums up what happened at the end only gives rise to the thoughts of the possiblity of a second season to happen now.

^ [edit] If it said bad ending in the special (which I have yet to watch, when I get around to it) the good ending was probably in the series as it was a very positive outlook on things in general. Now I'm interested...

I just finished watching this series. Sometimes I follow the popular list and I needed a new anime, so I guess because the OVA came out 2 days ago it jumped up, but I digress..

There are many valid arguments that I've looked through as I've read through this forum but I'm generally satisfied with how it ended. I would've liked more closure on at LEAST the main 5 characters, mainly with Hinata and the guy with the axe (his name escapes me now). I felt myself get emotionally invested in the series so it was sad to have to leave it be as it is however it wasn't necessarily because of the dramatic ending, though it as some responsibilities. The whole series, between the comedy and the seriousness somehow gave me a good insight into all the characters indeed. It's a shame that some people feel that the series should've came across as entirely dramatic or comedic. There was room for both in this particular setting, and Key made it work pretty well. However I must say it got really heavy toward the end, but there were a good bit of laughs over Kanade's song. I might have to watch that again.

I found myself going back to other funny parts of the series, like Hinata getting sent upward with Yuri's eject button of sorts and the group getting stabbed off one by one by the Angel clones.

The confession at the end seemed sudden, almost created for the convenience of drama itself, but it nonetheless tugged at my heartstrings when Kanade disappears and his wishes pretty much are neglected. But well, the ending assumes he disappears as well, I'd say.

The OP in particular was really one of the better OPs I've listened to lately. The piano adds a touch of sincerity and emotion. The music throughout the series was really impressive and added to the dramatic integrity of certain situations while other themes added to the comedies.

I'll leave it at that, and considering I finished this anime within around 2 days (not that I've had anything to stop me from doing anything else) I'd say I got hooked by the story and characters, though I've never watched an anime with afterlife themes to it unlike some of the other forumgoers. I'd give it a solid 8/10 and recommend it if not just to listen to the OP once haha.

After watching the OVA, I say I had to laugh at how they tried to be high tension all the time. the tension meter was genius.

At the end though it said Bad End. What's the good end then?

After watching this I can say that this series is probably better when marathoned. The biggest downer was the plot pacing of the first 6 eps, and you don't notice pacing issues as much during marathon sessions as you do on 1-a-week watching.

some animes excel in different viewing scenarios.

sup guise, am i late? I started watching this yesterday and now I'm up to episode 8.
All I can say is wow. I thought this was one of those ''lolrandum laughs/parody + loli or something.'' I was wrong. I'm only up to ep8 and it's already bought me tears of joy and sadness.

What got me watching is the opening theme. I was sick of my current music collection; it consists of OSTs from pre-2009 animes. I wanted something new so I downloaded songs from shows liek k-on2 and angel beats. And guess what, the first song struck me. I couldn't get enought of it! The OP is nothing but AWESOME. I listened to it for the whole day today. I immediately knew it was Lia when her vocal came up, and I thought ''sht son, I gotta watch this."

Aside from the OP theme, the general background music is well done. It's been a loooooong time since I last watched an anime with such a good soundtrack collection.

oh japan, please make more anime like this

Actually, it was kinda meh for a Key work. I dunno. Probably because a good portion of the cast wasn't even given enough attention. I thought Key works usually have a lot more character development. Adequate history on SSS was lacking too. Would've made for some good foreshadowing for the "twist". Well, not really foreshadowing but make it easier to accept [since the characters being bugs were already foreshadowed by their being "rebels"]. Some things were just so abrupt. Like KanadexOtonashi. Sure Otonashi's interest of her hinted towards that ending, but their interaction was just inadequate in order to make it believable enough for me at least. I gave it 7.5/10.

Oh, and I was wondering, how the hell did Kanade end up staying there longer than Brotonashi when Brotonashi died before her? I'm guessing it's because Brotonashi was "wandering" and only stumbled upon that world by accident. Like, God or the heaven's logistics officer didn't know where to assign him since he lost his memories, so he just wandered around.
