Well, I'm still in the midst of watching it. It started off kinda boring but the story is paced pretty evenly. Lols, but it is sooo shounen-ai. I kind of wish there was some female presence in this anime but well - it is kinda sweet and touching.

And this Koumei dude - is he somewhat insane? Cause everything he does seems to be contradictory...

I finished watching it today. I must say I'm majorly disappointing with it. Why couldn't main characters at least once have kissed? There wasn't ONE kiss, not even on cheek. I found most characters annoying, except two major, Kuomei's brother and that ninja guy that chuckle a lot.
Story was stupid. I was VERY disappointed. Nothing made any sense. It was just a mix of confusion and pointless actions which produced a lot of unnecessary eps. I'm especially frustrated because first 13 eps had so much potential. I really didn't like what become of relationship between Rikuson and Koumei. More than half of eps they was in some form of conflict. And Koumei suddenly turning into a good guy was hard to swallow. It just didn't make SENSE, considering how he always grinned like mad from the very start.

C'mon guys, this anime SCREAMS shounen-ai from the start, you can not truly be surprised at it, can you? All the boys with deep, heartfelt connections to each other are extremely cute to watch and besides that there are plenty of multi-hued fights between the obvious 'good guys' and the increasingly blatant 'bad guys'.

Call a spade a spade and take this anime for what it is: a story of love, in all its forms, sweet to the end and sappy all the way through. It may give you diabetes to watch but no worse than any other romance in that way.

Overall, crisp graphics, bishounen everywhere, voice acting that won't disappoint and enough twists for a pack of twizzlers carry the anime to something I'll watch again with a bag of popcorn over a week or so when I need my bishie fix. If I'm feeling impish, I'll bring it out in selected episodes for certain homophobes I know.

VERY frustrating to watch all that almost homo-eroticism...
*laughs* This is the reason I started watching it in the first place. Honestly, looking back through this thread, I'm a little perplexed by all the confusion that seemed to arise from the blatant shonen-ai aspects of this series. Wasn't it obvious from ep01 that this was shonen-ai? It was to me. The all-bishonen cast is a dead giveaway! Anyway, I finally finished it last week (yeah, I'm slow) and all I gotta say is -- Rikuson really loved his sensei, didn't he? *swoons*  Too bad he had to sacrifice himself to save Koumei.  And honestly, I'm not sure, in this case, that "love means never having to say you're sorry."  Yeah, yeah, Koumei did all that major destruction in order to trigger Rikuson's latent power to save the world, but if Koumei hadn't tried to destroy it in the first place, it wouldn't have needed to be saved!  It's like a Catch-22.  Why couldn't they have avoided the whole tragedy and just started making out? <--(joke... kind of)

Overall I enjoyed this series, although I felt the "super-powered" versions of the characters were somewhat (okay, very) cheesy-looking.

its actually a good story and kinda like a soap opera with everyone dying and crying... and VERY frustrating to watch all that almost homo-eroticism...
and cmon now... Sonken has to be a girl O.o ... he looks and dresses and talks like a girl... he's about as good looking as any female character in a manga... but no breasts LOL... gimme a break man... how much of a closet homo are the production ppl on this anime series...
also through out the series i wanted to beat da s**t outta Rikuson... he was more of a b***h than all da girly looking characters combined... i mean grow some balls already man... most tragedies prolly coulda been avoided if he had some back bone and took action earlier in da series.... man he was annoying...
besides da main being hella annoying and alll dat bishounen-ness i thought it was pretty good overall... i'd prolly give it a 3.5 out of 5

I'm most of the way through the series. I find also the boy-boy-boy stuff to be frustrating--I just don't get it. I understand that in the historical past that women probably didn't play much of a role in government and war, but I'm sure that even the most "beautiful" men didn't look *exactly* like women with wide hips, thin waists, female voices and yet no breasts. Since I find this confusing, I think it makes the show seem kind of slow-moving to me. (Yeah, yeah, you're all beautiful--just get on with it!)

Nevertheless, I've been fighting through it because the plot is not obvious and I want to see how it ends. I think

Note that there actually is one episode in the series where woman are shown: when the protagonist and his master visit what looks to be a sort of "red light district". Woman can be seen in the background--I assume they are supposed to be prostitutes. Are any female fans offended?

It's like sword fighting all the way BIG sword vs SMALL sword, LONG sword vs SHORT sword etc....... on guy to guy sort of thing. How could they repopulate if there's no female around . It's like the biggest G*Y kind of anime i ever watched. On the time of female shortage, it's like that they fell for each other . But it's good though.

oh it wont change lol, i started watching the first eps got to 3 and decided that the series was a little too shonen ai for me, while i was interested in the story sry to say that was enough of a turn off for me to decided to drop the series. Rather would try to find the thing its based on and read that.
