Jan 22 2012 08:12 PM This show...I already planned to watch it during the summer but pushed it off after hearing negative reviews about this...To be honest, I'm glad I did push it off. This show has a lot more downs than ups if you ask me.
The show starts off with an airhead effectively traveling across space and time to an altered world of the Warring States era. The first three or four episodes at least starts off with some hint of an okay story, however after that, the show takes a serious nosedive. The next few episodes feel like filler with Yoshino fooling around with history. After that and up to episode 10, the show progressed at the same feel the first few episodes did making it okay to watch. However, episode 11 is really where things made a turn for the worse. While I had expected some form of magic, I was really not expecting something that far out of the ordinary that it makes the show entirely deus ex. The teacher meets a time traveler from the future and thus starts the show, a ton of magic overload, and essentially everything just goes wrong from here on out. As far as I'm concerned, Ieyasu turned into a magical girl and turned this show upside down. Oh and did I forget to mention the talking dog?
Animation and art was decent by TMS. Nothing particularly outstanding or unique yet nothing that made it really poor either. The cheap part of the show was really drawing soldier faces. Almost none had an actual face drawn. The other thing that bothered me was that none of the characters actually constantly held their weapons yet they suddenly appeared when they battled...
Music was decent overall. The background was a strong point for this show even though the OP/ED themes are not particularly something I would like to listen to over and over again. Seiyuu wise I'm not particularly impressed with the cast, then again, it may also be partly due to the poor execution of the show.
Enjoyment? Okay up to episode 11 really. Really disliked Yoshino as a character though as I found her to be just plain annoying. On another note, however, the show remained rather tamed if you ask me. I had expected significantly more fanservice to the extent where it would "drive the plot" like in Ikki Tousen or Queen's Blade, but the show really defied that expectations and made it much more watchable in that regard.
Overall, I wouldn't say the show had much potential but I will say that if they were going to mess with the space-time continuum then they should at least plan it out. This show rings the number of shows trying such a plot to 3 in 2011 with Madoka Magica and Steins;Gate being the other two titles. There are a lot of flaws in this show and lacks its watchable character after episode 11. Furthermore, there are other titles that have the overused Sengoku era premise and are generally better, most notably Sengoku Basara.
Preliminary Score: 5/10
Final Score: 4/10
