I decided to give this series another chance.
When i first saw it it had some serious problems with storyline and characters.
Maybe a rewatch could help solve some of the major issues with the loose ends it created...that proved to be wrong. The writers didn't do anything with those ends which could have been missed when watching it the first time. This series broke down due to have not one good storyline. Sure Usui has an unknown power but to only do something with it in a few episodes is weak. To make things worse the writers forgot to slowly build up the information about it. Suddenly he gets strong and wants to destroy everything...the only word for this story is stupid.
The romance part which could have helped was pointless. The only girl which was good enough for Usui was dropped in the last episode. Suddenly she is just a girl who doesn't do anything to save him from his madness. Himegami never was a candidate but what happened to her background on why he is her enemy. And why is she a danger according to Minerva? We never got any true background on that part.

In all this series was and is a big disappointment. It fails to deliver in almost all critical points like story, character, animation, music and so on. Only because it had a few good moments, this series gets a 3 out of 10 from me. As Kit-Tsukase suggests: do yourself a favor and watch something else like Freezing.

So about Maken-Ki, I'm not really sure how I should be responding to this show. In the 12 episodes shown I'm not just confused but I don't see a direction in this show. As far as I'm concerned everything except episode 12 was relevant to an actual plot and maybe a few other happenings in the other episodes like episode 4 where Himegami was awesome. Speaking of episode 12, everything happened so fast that I had no idea what was going on and felt as if I just watched the entire series in one episode's length...or at least what should have happened in the series.

Animation is by AIC Spirits. Not something we haven't seen from them in the last 2-3 years given Strike Witches and Ga-Rei -Zero-. In fact, I found Ga-Rei -Zero- to generally have higher quality of animation than this show for the most part. Furthermore, the art is absolutely terrible. Odd physical proportions aside, I recall often seeing facial shots that were too long (e.g. nose too far above mouth or nose too close to the eyes, etc...). Lastly, while the sketch-like artworks were probably the highlight of the show, the overuse and length still shots of them made me further question the low animation budget for this show.

Music was pretty bad for the most part. The OP was okay but not something worth listening to over and over again (decent instrumental though). ED was awful and background music wasn't particularly noticeable or memorable. Seiyuu was pretty bland across the board with literally everyone sounding the same at the end of the day. Not even Sayuri Yahagi as Kodama Himegami could save the show at the end of the day.

Enjoyment? None absolutely none. At first I thought the show might have something going for it in its finale, but then they not only rushed it, but also seemingly skipped every important detail possible.

Overall, this is really not a show worth watching. Unless you were in for the ecchi I wouldn't waste your time with this. Furthermore, there are far better ecchi titles than this series and I'm not going to bother naming them since almost every major ecchi title (good and bad) I can think of outclass this one. Heck, if you want a similar title with a similar premise, go watch Freezing.

Preliminary Score: 5/10
Final Score: 3/10

Sometimes I get this feeling that I should read the manga if I want to get a better idea of this storyline here, but at the same time I'm enjoying the anime because of the ecchi scenes, and how they aren't overly butchering every single pantyshot here.

Manga is better because you got more of the background and everything makes more sense. The anime is skipping little details that would help people understand whats going on

Ok with epsidoe 7 we pretty much gain a new elite group that might be assisting the Maken-Ki group. Although I kind of have my dobuts over it. In any case our main boy here tend to end up as a punching bag no matter what he does here, but most o fhte times I think he's trying to do it, but failing to get away with it sometimes.

So pretty much there is a much bigger power that is residing near the mountainside that someone or some organization would want to resurect here as well. So it look slike we do have a story here afterall even with all the fanservice strewn accross it.

Pretty much epsidoe 6 was mostly about kind of a flashback-like epsidoe where I think he doesn't fully rember what promise he made but managed to make the same promise though. Also, it looks like he managed to pull off using his element here in with I think he's better suited to use that instead of his Maken at times.

It would seem so. He doesn't seem to have problems with using his element. It was a nice episode with some good flashbacks. Still it is frustrating to see how stupid he seems to get. Usui did have a nice comeback this time by really caring. Hopefully the next episode will focus on the lack of not having a maken again. This series has too much questions and too little focus on a main storyline to really be above average right now.

This wasn't very good. The fight was boring, he acted like an idiot throughout the fifth episode (the worst was when he asked for juice after those sandwiches. Fortunately she kicked him..not hard enough though as he made another stupid remark of being treated like an object. Yeah, if you act like an idiot you can expect that..)and storywise it never felt interesting. The romance which could help a bit (for example why he has a fiancee) is completely gone. This was almost not worth watching.
The only interesting thing was to know that Haruko has the most destructive maken and that some people want to see that power in action.
Hopefully we get a bit of background on the people like Himegami and why she called him enemy and his fiancee.

Ok I'm guessing they have some kind of issue with the whole censoring of pantyshots here and there for some reason. The censoring is reminding me on how Rosario+Vampire II went downhill kind of deal here.

Aside from that minor issue it seems that we actually get to see one of his broken abilities he has. Well not only that but even Himegami-san kind shows a massive tsundere side towards him with this epsidoe.

In any case I think that mark that he has might be the reason why he wasn't able to get a reading of a Maken element here.
