Segawa Yuta is a freshman of a university. He lost his parents when he was small and was raised by his sister Yuri. Yuta has been living alone since Yuri got married to a middle aged man when Yuta was a junior high student.

One day, Yuri visited Yuta's apartment and asked him to take care of her three daughters while Yuri and her husband were on a trip. He unwillingly accepted the job but the plane Yuri took went missing. In order to prevent the daughters from being adopted separately by relatives, Yuta decided to take in all three girls.

A life of a strange family in a tiny apartment begins. (The elder two of the daughters are stepchildren of Yuri's husband. The smallest one is Yuri's child.)

Papa no Iu Koto o Kikinasai! (or PapaKiki for short) is based off an ongoing light novel. The show follows three girls, Sora Miu, and Hina Takanashi who are 14, 10, and 3 years old respectively. Yuuta Segawa becomes the three girl’s guardian due to an accident that befell the girls’ parents. Yuuta is nothing more than the average college student with part-time jobs and by taking the girls in to his own care, he decides to take on more jobs, attend university less frequently, and put the girls’ happiness as his highest priority. The show was available via simulcast on CrunchyRoll and has been acquired by Sentai Filmworks for US distribution. Please support the industry if you enjoyed the show by buying the DVDs/BDs when they are available.

In terms of story, the series does a great job with keeping events somewhat realistic. Yuuta is sane for the most part though taking on that many part-time jobs and making enough money to pay for four people seems a bit of a stretch. I would have been more impressed to see how they would handle a situation where Yuuta is completely broke while taking care of the three considering he kept saying that budget was going to be tight. Another one would be if Yuuta had fallen ill one day due to stress, sleep deprivation, and/or being overworked. The eviction notice, however, was nicely done as that’s definitely something big when living in apartments and I’m glad that event was at least there even though it ended up being “forgiven.” Drama wise wasn’t impressive. If you had seen the PV trailer or read the basic summary of the light novel, it was no surprise that there was going to be a “tragic accident.” To be honest, the so called tragedy didn’t really pan out the way I had hoped. For an event that’s suppose to be a “hook” for the show, it wasn’t as emotional as say Cross Game, nor was it really all that surprising. Character wise, they were all believable to a degree and least reasonable for a comedy drama title. However, the lack of development was a killer in the negative sense. Lots of repetition that Yuuta was raised by his deceased sister out of pure motivation and love and that he plans to do the same for the three girls, but no significant development on how he got to who he was today. Similarly, we are aware that Sora, Miu, and Hina all had different mothers, yet the show refused to dive into this at all aside from using it as a base of the three’s dislike of being separated.

Animation wise is rather decent for feel. I felt Kiss x Sis was better by them, but this is certainly a step up from Yosuga no Sora, which aired two years ago. Art wise was not that impressive. Backgrounds were generic and the scenery wasn’t eye catching either. Hina’s and Raika’s designs aside the other character designs were relatively generic. It’s a bit unbelievable though for a 3 year old like Hina to have that long hair though. If you consider how old Kiss x Sis is at this point, it’s a bit disappointing to see feel not improve all that much after a few years.

OP/ED theme were both catchy that fit the series for its “happy-go-lucky” characters despite all the somber tones along the way. The background music wasn’t always memorable but there were a few average tunes in the mix. Sound effects had no real problems and the seiyuu cast was quite respectable for this show. Hiromi Igarashi is quite amazing for being able to accurately portray the character of a 3 year old.

Enjoyment? Well the series was slightly more entertaining than I had expected and far less in fanservice than I had anticipated, especially given feel’s track record of shows. However, that didn’t make the show all that much better. It didn’t really stand out all that much in what was a weak Winter 2012 season and even when it did, certain shows completely prevented it from being entertaining, including Nisemonogatari, Aquarion EVOL, Bakuman 2, Chihayafuru, and even Smile Precure!.

Overall, the show lacked appeal. It’s certainly an underrated title but I felt it could have done more in 12 episodes, yet at the same time, I felt there was no filler in the show. The conclusion of the show didn’t leave me with quite the sour note that many fans and viewers seemed to have problems with and it did leave opportunities for continuation. However, it also lacked any sort of appeal to drag people back in if a sequel were to be produced. Character development is definitely the weakest aspect of this show and could have probably replaced a number of episodes throughout the show that felt like “one-shots.” While there were definitely “character episodes” they didn’t really add significant substance to what the audience already knew.

Preliminary Score: 6/10
Final Score: 6/10

I hope that was a joke.

Why do you hope it was a joke? After all Yuri was the only bearable character in the first 3 eps and her coming back shouldve been more obvious than the sun going up every day. But bad surprises can always happen.

With Ossi-san I think it's not a joke when it comes to hot, smexy, and Milfy women in most anime series he tends to watch you know.

In any case pretty much for all we know they might be on a deserted island unable to find away home, and was written off for dead kind of deal. I mean that twist factor is still usable thoughout the series if that's the case, but I dirgess.

Seeing as Yuri didnt come back at the end (what is quite a surprise) it seems that I was right to drop this after ep 3.

I'd like to say I give this one a 10/10 because I really love the characters and story, but I have to say 7/10 for Adaptation FAIL.

A few things were handled better than in the books, but they focused on the wrong things most of the time. Moreover, the books were from Yuuta's perspective and the anime is mostly from the girls' perspective. There's just a certain "distance" from the girls that makes some of Sora's antics less insufferable. That doesn't even bother me that much, but this one episode was handled so differently than in the books that it literally wrecked the suspense.

I preferred the way the book handled this section, it was far more believable and it didn't really resolve until the actual climax. Sora dressed up in one of Yuri's dresses would've been a hillarious scene to see.

Overall, this season was book 1 with a few slices from book 2 and some original material, and I doubt we'll see another season, even though there's 9 books in total so far.

Unfortunately, this anime has ended... Well even if it had a predictable ending, the whole show was very good with some funny moments and some sad ones. Sora-chan and Hina-chan saved this series with their way to behave.

Although I have to say I kind of liked how Sora was acting all jellous over Raika once more since she was acting as Yuuta's waifu for the time being.

I know what you mean xD I missed her tsundere-ish behaviour xD I wanted to at least see this for the last time as I'm sure there will not be a second season (but I hope they'll do some OAV !).

In the end a good show that I'll surely recommend to some friend of mine =p
It merits a good 8/10 !

In any case lucky thing that Sora was stalking him to thier family grave only to say that she and her sisters do enjoy thier time with him afterall.
Although I have to say I kind of liked how Sora was acting all jellous over Raika once more since she was acting as Yuuta's waifu for the time being.

That's just it...Sora the stalker could not even allow Yuuta-kun the dignity/privacy of being alone to clear his thoughts and talk with his dead sister. Instead, she is selfish and puny and silly as she barges in on him and the private time he was trying to have...all but makes it impossible for him to say what he has to say. So typical of these sulking bipolar tsundere type characters; better stop there before some blow their corks.
Anyway, despite Sora's fantasies and petty immature pre-teen wanna be jealousies...no way she will ever compare to the lovely Raika-chan...Sora has a long way to "grow" a pair before she can ever hope to compete in the Raika rack contest. Til then...silly Sora has to make do with a training bra.
Just my poking fun opinion.

Well my guess they may have pulled the anime orignal ending for this since I think the manga is on-going along with having a second story arc running that focuses around Miyu a bit more, and another with the background character having thier moment in the sun if I remember correctly.

In any case they probablly did that since it was something short and sweet in more ways then one here.
Anyways, I have to say I kind of like how things were comming together here and it does explain as to why certain characters did what they did not only in this episode but thoughout the series. In any case lucky thing that Sora was stalking him to thier family grave only to say that she and her sisters do enjoy thier time with him afterall.

This one had a predictable ending...no way the animators were gonna tear this little family up...doubt the fans would have liked that. Instead, we got the generic fantasy "too-good-to-be-true" ending. Oh sure, there will be those wanting a second season but not sure since imo, it ended just fine. Silly Sora-chan will forever cling to the hope of snatching up Yuuta-kun while he will hope to make pretty Raika-chan his wife...hope that dream comes true. Some silly fun at the Parent's Day musical. A nice touch too, on the Aunt and Uncle's part...now, they truly have a home.
