After hearing that the manga is a really good one this show is a big disappointment since it makes almost nothing right.

I honestly didnt like any of the characters. The only one I liked was Youko because she walked her own way despite her s****y husband saying no. But that was only until she tried to save him in ep 12, after this it was over. Her diying did only worsen it.
Kouga is a real scumbag who I really wanted to see jailed at the end and honestly I dont know why he hasnt gotten in jail after openly killing his father and mother which was seen live all over tv.
Jin, well to me he is no character he is a little chess piece and nothing else. Sure he was intended to be this way but trying to make him look different and failing doing that really was a joke.
The rest of the cast was forgettable, especially Kougas sister who did nothing than cry and scream the whole show.

Animationwise I cant say that Ive seen a lot of worse stuff. The characters often looked deformed, sometimes even so much that you have to ask yourself how they can even live with a body- and a headshape like that. Not to mention that the quality of the actionscenes was horrible.

Plotwise it was a disaster. It went timewise anywhere, no explanations, lots of stupid stuff happening and mostly completely without any sense. Just trying to get into the plot makes the head hurt so bad is it.

I actually flew over the manga a bit and luckily it seems that the anime was completely different. For example in the manga Kouga looks like hes twelve while everything happened and not eighteen like in the anime. And even the timeline is completely different and the whole story about Hanako seems to be anime original too. Good for the people reading it because, honestly, if the anime was faithful I couldnt possibly understand how it could be a hit.

3/10 from me and defenitely one of the worst shows I ever watched.

ZETMAN is based off an ongoing 2002 manga (with 17 volumes). It premiered during the Spring 2012 anime season and was simulcasted by Viz via Hulu. It is directed by the staff of D. Gray-Man and Saint Seiya The Lost Canvas with script by staff of Vandread and Chrno Crusade and animation by TMS Entertainment, who is also doing this season's Lupin III series. There were a lot of complaints prior to the series beginning due the to PV showing material up to the 10th volume of the manga. With only 13 episodes, that means around one volume an episode. With that said, let's see if ZETMAN does really fall into a terrible trap.

Story wise, it's fairly linear and straightforward for an action supernatural title. Typical good guy bad guy type elements that make it easy to follow at the most fundamental level. Maybe not as simple as Heroman or Tiger & Bunny but even an average viewer can understand the basic premise. Looking more in depth, there is a lot of complicated terminology in this show and with all the time skips and jumping around of the plot throughout the series, it never really took the time to explain much of it and had the viewer take it for granted as the setup of the show. It's fine to an extent but as the show dives deeper about it, it becomes necessary to explain. The jumpy plot is most obvious with the frequent time skips in the series as we see Jin grow up over time and as he learns about his true self. The other jumpy aspect is how certain episodes in the same timeline don't really add up at times. The plot does begin to become more continuous in the final "arc" of this series but ends up doing yet another time skip. In summary, ZETMAN's plot is average at best. Generic at its finest if you must.

Art wise is okay but the biggest issue her is the poor character designs as they grow older. Character appearances age faster than the characters themselves making them look unbelievably old when they shouldn't be. On the flip side, there's also the issue of a character not aging fast enough. It's simply inconsistent and a big drawback of the series in figuring out an already jumpy timeline. Action wise is plain and basic with nothing really special. Dark lighting also really does not help though this may be a broadcasting issue than a production issue. TMS hasn't done very many good shows in terms of quality but considering they were doing and have done Lupin III works, it's easy to see that there are a number of areas for improvement.

OP theme is dull and pretty much forgettable and ED theme is subpar as well. Background themes are quite nice but often forgettable. Sound effects are also okay. Seiyuu is pretty average overall too. Not much to say here as the show doesn't really thrive on the sound aspect compared to it's animation quality.

Enjoyment? It's not a show I look forward to on a weekly basis and given all the negative aspects of the show in the beginning, it really didn't leave much room to please. Presentation was rough all around and there are better action and supernatural shows than this such as Tiger & Bunny, Casshern Sins, and Darker than Black. It does have some positives with being a very seinen and dark themed show. Of course, trying to pass itself as a half horror type show didn't quite work when you have titles like Gantz or Deadman Wonderland doing this better.

Overall, ZETMAN has a nice dark premise but with its pacing, it's easily outclassed by many other titles. It's an okay watch if you have some time to kill but there is really little enjoyment here. I imagine reading the manga might be better despite action scenes obviously not animated. Casshern Sins or Darker than Black is something I would really recommend over this title though or if you were looking for shows of a similar genre.

yup these final episodes were drastically tragic than the rest with the death of Jin's girlfriend Tanaka who really was a player and Konoha's mother on the way when Kouga shot his father killing both, like I mentioned before I would have enjoyed more this kind of dark superhero series if it was done back when that genre was a novelty but its manga didn't have enough material 10 years ago -.-
...though Zetman has less bromance (lol) for me Tiger & Bunny did better with character development in their more likable heroes and the comedic slice of life helped to last in 25 instead of 12 rushed eps, even with its apparent cliffhanger of Zet vs Sweeper and Haitani's silhoutte stalking them I don't think there will be a sequel but we'll know after the manga is finished so this gets 7/10

Final scores about all adaptations I watched from Masakazu Katsura's works:
Dream Soldier Wingman (TV series 47 eps.) winter 1984 to winter 1985 - 4/10
Den'ei Shōjo aka Video Girl Ai (live action film) spring 1991 - 5/10
VGA (OVA series 6 eps.) winter to summer 1992 - 7/10
Iria: Zeiram the Animation (OVA series 6 eps.) spring to fall 1994 - 8/10
D・N・A² Dokoka de Nakushita Aitsu no Aitsu (TV series 12 eps.) fall 1994 - 6/10
D・N・A² DdNAnA (OVA series 3 eps.) winter 1995 to spring 1995 - 5/10
From I"s (OVAs 2 eps.) 2002 to 2003 - 7/10
I"s Pure (OVA series 6 eps.) 2005 to 2006 - 8/10
Tiger & Bunny (TV series 25 eps.) spring to summer 2011 - 9/10
Zetman (TV series 13 eps.) spring 2012 - 7/10
Tiger & Bunny (theatrical movie) summer 2012 - ???

Just when I thought the series wouldn't get any darker, it inserts nitro boost and sends a trip straight down to the midnight hour. Seriously, I can honestly say that I can't wait for the next episode to come out.

if you guys though Kouga was lame enough doing all that sentai stuff this 6th episode he was too full of himself saying words like "I am Justice" yet he still isn't qualified and has a long way to become his idol Alphas, he was about to make another bad decision like he did previously abandoning those 3 girls if it wasn't for the advice of his crew because this time he choose to hunt down the players instead leaving with his sister and her friend... now we know the reason of Tanaka's jealousy as she just realized she's falling for Jin and why she ran away from home, after watching how that emo Haitani transformed Zet in his red form I wonder if he's going to disobey then go against that Amagi geezer who was controlling and watching over him for years.

Yes Kouga is straight out of a Power Rangers movie. Its completely possible to take him and his justice thing series, especially after he let those three girls die (why is it in animes always that girls have to die? let boys die nobody needs them) and the scene where he was rambling about Alphas outfit.

Tanaka is really strange too getting jealous of Konoha after she only knows Jin for a few hours.

What I dont get is why Jin cant become Zet out of his own will again. When he was fighting against that fire-monster he did it but now he cant? Why? We didnt hear or see a reason for this.
The biggest mainfault of this show for now is that they are sloppy with infos.

Episode 05 was okay, a little too short for my liking as well as this series really is coming off as silly but I don't mind it. I say silly because of the whole "Alphas Launch Ship" sequence, I thought I was watching Power Rangers or something. However, this over-the-top silliness in a Seinen series has kept me watching this series and most likely will have me watching this series to the end, which I'm thoroughly enjoying. It was hilarious to see Tanaka being selfish of Jin in front of Konoha, which I actually don't get because she barely knows Jin and is already acting like his girlfriend..............it just baffles me but I've seen weirder things than that in anime.

I saw the first 4 episodes earlier today and just found out that the 5th episode just got released. The first 4 episodes of Zetman were great but the time-skips came real quickly at the beginning, I was kinda shocked to be honest but I kinda like it though, it's not like Naruto or other animes that do flashbacks just for the sake of introducing characters from the past and revealing more background information about certain characters. Whereas, in Zetman, your given pretty much the full low-down on the main characters of the series and how they have grown up from 10, 18 to about 20 years old I guess.

I wanted to check bakaupdates and there seems a fair amount of chapters and I'm thinking of reading this manga in the summer hopefully.

I'll be watching the 5th episode soon.

Kouga is an idiot, Kanako is harsh towards her brother, Jin is pretty bad-ass and Hanako is cute.

I read a spoiler about Kanako's mother, which kinda made me smile and wonder, if this kind of thing happens in anime, I personally haven't seen it happen often.......not to sure why.

Jin seems to be in real touble yet again with that sweeper attacking him (at least it looks like that). Seems like the players which escaped back then have made their own rules regarding living. Most of them still seem to be cruel killers, rapers and whatnot but at least some are trying.

Animation quality really got better in ep 4 but still not great. But it could be the style which is bad.

So ep  3 was good. I enjoyed it. Some of scene transitions were super archaic and awkward.

QUOTE (Killer_Ossi @ Apr 22 2012, 03:01 PM)
Just like Aus I didnt really get the third ep. It felt like I was missing an ep or something. And timewise it didnt make sense either. Last ep he is captured and Akemi seen shot and now it starts with him and her talking and goes into him battling a player without any introduction or whatever happened between all those scenes.

the timeline can be confusing at moments as many years pass between episodes a couple of times but that was simply a flashback while he remembered the happy times living with her, then awakens watching she's killed (or so he though) by that monster seen in the last seconds of ep.2 and the start of 3 (btw that's a Zet not a player unlike Akemi's clone) ...animationwise is having many ups and downs through the previous eps. but the quality of #4 is getting closer to the opening sequence regarding fights and such, now that Jin and Kouga's age/appearence are the same as shown in the OP the main story is just beginning so hopefully the action scenes get better since the next episode titled Alphas.
