I finally got round to watching episode 13 and 14 and they were both pretty good.

Episode 13 was decent but to me became great only when Darin and her owl were introduced, well their debut as their names were never mentioned. From what I know is that the anime and manga series are very different in where Darin debuts, she apparently debuts much earlier in the manga and is integral at times, whereas, in the anime she is merely shown riding a plane and landing in Japan with her owl doing some reconnaissance.

Episode 14 was really great as again a "new character" was introduced and her antics at getting Rea in trouble and giving Rea trouble were great but I was slightly disappointed to find out that everything was a "dream" linked to all 3 character, Rea, Aria and Chihiro......it was also a little "shock" to find out that the little girl was actually Aria but I sorta guessed it was her since the episode started off with her and then the little girl's glare towards Rea was similar to Aria's glare. Again, this brought up thoughts of Aria, I really wish for someone to be for her because Rea's father is most probably never going to. I mean I know she is a character, who most would love to hate but I for one, feel pity for her, which I believe some people do.

My scores for the following:-

Episode 13 "I am... a Zombie, too..." - 8/10
Episode 14 "Body of a zombie, heart of a..." - 8/10

My score for this series is a 9/10, it's the score I had for it when I stopped watching at episode 09 earlier this year and I decided to keep the score because I thought episode 10 to 12 were pretty good, of course the last TV episode didn't seem like a conclusion but I expected that since apparently episodes 13 and 14 are bundled with the Blu-Ray volumes. I'm surprised they haven't been subbed yet, I think episode 13 has been but I don't where to find it though
well just found last episode subbed in english (already watched #13 with spanish subs), was nice to see Rea enjoying school and becoming popular while Aria gets jealous ^^ ...most of the OVA was only a dream of hers after playing with herself in the bathtub, I didnt figure out she was the fairy wing girl until I noticed her eye color and hatred for Rea ¬¬ meanwhile waiting S2:

SankaRea (TV series 12 episodes) spring 2012 - 8/10
SR ep.0 "Fate is... Really..." (1st OVA) spring 2012 - 9/10
SR ep.13 "I am... a Zombie, too..." (2nd OVA) fall 2012 - 8/10
SR ep.14 "Body of a zombie, heart of a..." (3rd OVA) fall 2012 - 7/10

So I just checked through this thread and I most certainly stopped after episode 09 as it said earlier on MAL. My mini-mission of the day was to complete the series, so I checked through all the random curiosity reviews of Episodes 1 to 9....only really looked at the pictures.

I started off by watching the first OVA episode, episode 00 that takes place 7 months before the first episode just as a reminder of what the characters were like and also because of a recommendation of watching this episode along with episode 10, which are mainly "flashback" episodes.

After that, I finsihed the original TV series off and was proud to make it "complete" at MAL.

The series is awesome and of course unique in that there aren't many animes depicting the undead as potential lovers, there are of course a lot of mangas out there for it but this in anime is great but also really innocent. Not like "My lovely ghost Kana", which is pretty much hentai.

I really like characters like Ranko but I also pity her because she doesn't have a place in the main character's heart yet since he's so focused on giving Rea a "normal girl life" and somewhat in love with her, I wouldn't say he's completely in love with her yet.

I haven't read the manga in a long time and I've mostly forgotten what I have read in the past, so I might restart from the beginning, probably do it next year though, I still have a lot more anime series I want to finish before the end of 2012.

I'm surprised they haven't been subbed yet, I think episode 13 has been but I don't where to find it though.

Finally watched OVA number two and also the special, http://myanimelist.net/anime/16694/Sankare..._Zombie_de_Aru..
The special (episode 13) is told from Badu's perspective..it seems he finds a special friend and then has to leave said friend due to a hunger that comes on towards the end of the episode. What is interesting is the last few minutes of the special as we see a strange looking owl and its owner landing in Japan...I hope it does mean a second season.
Was good to see the gang again after so long.

Sankarea is based off an ongoing romantic comedy manga. It follows Rea Sanka (using western naming convention of course), who is the show's titular character, and how she dies yet lives again. Chihiro Furuya is the show's male protagonist and is obsessed with zombies and necromancy related topics. The show was simulcasted on CrunchyRoll and licensed by Funimation Entertainment for US release. Unlike most zombie titles, this one doesn't involve turning others into zombies or an apocalypse setting. In fact, it twists it and creates the general romantic comedy setting. With a bit of love and hate on both ends as well as a mix that could be considered taboo, how does this show hold up at the end of the day?

I recall that coming into this show, there was a lot hype built in. I wasn't sure from what as I haven't read the source material but whether or not it's because of the manga, I definitely remember not being too impressed when it started. It took a long time for this show to bring out the actual zombie aspect (episode 3/4 to be precise) but looking back with 20/20 hindsight, it actually did a good job in that respect. The show is not really about Chihiro's love for zombies but rather how titular character Rea tries to gain her freedom due to her over protective (and corrupt for that manner) family. Of course, the slightly deeper plot doesn't mean it's good. The "romantic comedy" aspect is really bland and dull for the most part as the show goes on endlessly with Rea and Chihiro teasing or flirting with each other and neither side really has the guts to come out and confess. Granted that the manga is ongoing but the development is a tad slow. Character development is solid even though all except anything related to Rea felt useless to the overarching plot. If there's one incredibly strong point of the series is its attention to detail. For a show dealing with the fictional zombie type character, it goes into an incredible amount of detail regarding the "death cycle" as if this was a novel. Furthermore, the ending is definitely a mixed bag with it leaving an interesting "cliffhanger" if you must while providing general closure at the same time. Whether this means a second season is tentatively planned is another question though.

Art is very beautiful for this show. Great scenery and attention to detail. Character designs are a bit lacking in creativity and "common sense" as Wanko and Chihiro look far too similar to be considered just childhood friends. In contrast, Mero and Chihiro look far too different to be remotely considered siblings. On the animation end, for a Studio DEEN title, this is very well done. I'm generally impressed with the great amount of fluidity and smooth movements in this show while keeping everything at a grounded and human level. Furthermore, it's probably the best I've seen from DEEN since Giant Killing, if not even longer.

Music in this show is pretty bland. OP/ED are generally uninteresting. OP is by nano.ripe who did a much better job on Hanasaku Iroha not too long ago. ED is by Annabel, who has worked on titles such as Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, CANAAN, and Another. Generally speaking, I don't really like her songs. It's a bit better this time around but not really much. Backgrounds and sound effects are average at best and generally forgettable. On the other hand, seiyuu is pretty good for this show with Maaya Uchida being the underdog here and doing a great job as Rea. Ryouhei Kimura was Chihiro and unsurprisingly, he continues to play really boring characters. I wonder why they don't give him any more cool roles like Akira in Higashi no Eden anymore.

Enjoyment? Personally, it started off with a really low note and taking forever to develop. Eventually the show gains traction and dives deeply into the character's pasts, which is not something you often see for a 1 cour show. Unfortunately, a lot of those episodes felt like filler and really didn't add value to the show. Nice try though. The enjoyment value definitely ramped up towards the end as more crazy things about Rea's father and past were gradually unveiled.

Overall, the show is not groundbreaking despite trying a new twist. It's solid and certainly re-watchable to a degree, but not something to lose sleep over for. I am definitely interested in seeing what Rea's fate is like as it would be nice to see the series break the traditional "male lead ends up with female lead," but something inside me doubts this will happen.

Preliminary Score: 6/10
Final Score: 7/10

They couldve leave the thing with Rea biting Chihiro and it wouldve been a good finale but like this it doesnt feel like an end and I doubt the last OVA will provide us with an end since an OVA just hasnt that much time it would need.

Overall this show was a enjoyable watch. It had an interesting plot, good characters (not to mention hot women ^^) and great animation.

Chihiro was a good protagonist and formed a nice couple with Rea who you could say was the star of this show and my favorite character. Danichiro was a great antagonist until he left Rea in Chihiros care (still wish he dies an horrible death). Ranko was more or less a fifth wheel and was portrayed rather annoyingly what she didnt deserve. Aria was a bit left out, I hoped to see more of her and maybe seeing her relationship with Rea getting better, but maybe we get to see that in a second season since you saw at the end that she doesnt really hate Rea.
The only character who was more or less completely useless was Mero. I just dont like slow and apathic people like her.

The stuff with the zombies was portrayed really good and wasnt overthetop but with all the problems that comes with beeing dead, like the decaying, change of skincolor and so on. Maybe Chihiro should ask Ayumu from Kore wa Zombie how to "maintain" Reas body ^^.

This show gets an 8/10 from me.

hmm while reading my post again I get why it confuses you as I assumed that Rea and Chihiro's mom was the same telling by Aria and Danichiro's reaction in other episodes after their daughter revived, is weird that they accepted that fact quickly like they already knew that something similar happened before to somebody else (Yuzuna in this case) and trusted Rea to the Furuyas' care until he finds a cure...
Well it is weird that they accepted her zombie state rather easily, like it's a normal thing... instead what surprised him was that all she ever wanted in life was to be treated like a normal girl

What bothers me is how forgiving they are towards the father. He just stabbed Chihiro and luckily he wasn't killed! And he has been a pedo dad all this time, but who cares! They just swept all of that under the rug and ended the episode with an overflow of shots with Wanko's boobs.
I know what you mean and I can understand why Aria gives a damn whatever Rea does without mentioning her alcoholism is probably another reason why zombies don't surprise her anymore, Dan'ichiro was blinded by his overprotective "love" for his daughter and he didn't want to grant what she really wanted but you know with Ranko's rack is easy to forget all the problems that just happened ¬¬ ...about the 12th episode it didn't feel as the last one at all with Rea back to school being a dangeous zombie and many questions posted haven't been answered yet like what is the name of her biological mom (is she Yuzuna?), so far I'm liking Sankarea more than TOxA from my spring top series but time will tell if a TV sequel follows after the OVAs until there's more content from its ongoing manga so I'll leave it between 9/10 and 8/10

Okay with the last epsidoe I have to ask the one question here, and that's "Will this get a second season?"
Pretty much the last epsidoe more or less ended with somewhat of a cliff-hangar if you ask me, so I guess this means that they may continue this later on down the road.
Granted it's a decient series, but it'll agrivate me to no end if they end it like that.

This series was one enjoyed by yours truly. I do agree though, Woofie-san, the ending was rather interesting to say the least but I ain't worried about it...it seems that while she realized her desire for Chihiro-kun, said desire seemed to "awaken her flesh and blood lust" and thus she "went for it."
Now, as to whether we fans get to see that incident unravel even moreso with a second season, all remains to be seen.
Two OVAS are due out...one already has been released as a prequel to the current story while OVA number two will be released in November if the anime reports are correct. Maybe with OVA number two, we will get to see what has happened since...I will miss Mero-chan since she was my favorite character. So cute and so wise and such a good cook. Loved her slow way of talking and despite her not saying much, nothing ever slipped past her sharp little eyes.

Yes that really is strange but you have to consider how the family works. I mean the maids are only there for becoming the future wife of an potential heir and Danichiro is really powerful so nobody is going to speak up against him (you know the typical overpowered japanese anime-tycoon) since it would spell the end for their family.
Its the same with the "Josef Fritzl case" where he had his daughter(s) as slave in his cellar for I dont remember how many years and nobody who knew it talked about it or tried to do something.
