Wow that's kind of a very harsh score if I ever saw one Kit-san.

You think so? I think in general most anime have been hitting this range recently...and by recently I mean since 2008 or 2009. I'm pretty sure if I look at the average score of most anime titles I've seen these past few years, most fall into the 5 or 6 bucket (as they should though) with even greater frequencies below that average than I've seen in the 2000-2008 period. Nyaruko has its perks but it can only go so far.

Wow that's kind of a very harsh score if I ever saw one Kit-san.

To follow up on your review I have to say yes it was heavy on the otaku references along with the Cthulhu Mythos antics as well.

Pretty much I have to agree with how the OP is very catchy and kind of has people messing with the first few seconds of the Nya bit beofre the song kicks into full gear.

Also, I have to say with them adding in Hastur (or Hausta with how the sub groups put it ) was a plus due to him being very sandity induscing at times. At first I wasn't sure if he was really a trap, or being a reverse trap. Heck I think most of the viewers were kind of confused as to how he/she should be seen with his artwork, but then again that's how he kind of roles anyways.

And, yes I was a bit let down that a few of the members from the flash animation never made it into the storyline so far, but then again it would of been a bit hard to place them in here with the overall antics Nyaruko induces.

In any case if you ask me Nyaurko is pretty much supposed to be the only Outer God that loves to troll humans, within the Mythos, in any chance she can get, but that also means she has to understand the people she tends to troll. So what better way to do that then to become an otaku.

Pretty much many people compare her to Gordon Freedman from the Half-Life Game Series, ever since she pulled out the crowbar in episode one and used it as her main weapon thoughout the series.... well that and her so-called Kamen Rider-like outfit as well.

Now onto Cthuko, or shoukd I say Kuu-chan. Pretty much she started out as what would be known as your standard yuri NEET, until she was beaten by the girl she loved which ironically was Nyaruko. Pretty much her yuri tendicies were good and all since it balanced out the whole Nyaruko fawning over Mahiro in the beginning. Although with Hastur being added to that mix it kind of became somewhat of a battlefiled over who had rights to him in the first place... almost. Pretty much half-way though the anime she did start falling for him, but kind of kept it rather subbtle though up until the very end. I mean once she thought about also marrying Mahiro I then got the idea of what better way the get to the girl you love then to get though the boy that she loves first.

Overall the seres itself was.... oh wait I left someone out. Well for Mahiro himself basically the series does revolve around him and how he managed to lose his peaceful days when he managed to find out the the Cthulhu Mythos was actually more real and slightly different than he belived it to be. Also, his mother does tend to show up every now and again, and it was kind of nice to how she managed to fawn over him as well.

Okay, now overall the series itself was pretty much how Nyaruko woul happened to be somewhat of a space cop decided to not only protect Mahiro in the beginning but also to make sure he feel for him in the end of things. Pretty much I wouldn't be overly supprised if she managed to cuase all of those problems to him just so she could actually meet him for the first time. I mean this is Nyarlathotep she's baised off of, so I wouldn't put it past her.

In the end this series itself kind of helped not only myself, but a friend that I know got us interested in the Call of Cthulhu RPG game. Granted we're a bit on a serious note instead of the crazy antics the series did, but it helped me want to understand the Mythos a bit more then usual though.

Overall Score: 10/10

Reason: It got me interested in the Mythos itself what more of a reason do you need. Also, having a high Spot Hidden can be either a God-send or a major problem depending on what you needed to see.

Haiyore! Nyaruko-san is based off a light novel inspired by Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos. It premiered during the Spring 2012 anime season and was available for viewing on CrunchyRoll via simulcast. Haiyore! Nyaruko-san also received two short flash anime adaptations in 2010 and 2011. The staff of the series has changed to receive slightly higher quality animation. The series is also very notorious for the vast amount of otaku references ranging from anime to video games as well as other random trivia. In a season light on comedy, it was a nice change of pace and gave the series a nicer niche. Haiyore! Nyaruko-san is brought to us by the staff of MM! and Amagami SS+.

So the story...there isn't one. It's a romantic comedy show with heavy emphasis on comedy. Nyaruko and Cthuko are both really fun characters. Hasuta is new to the cast as he did not appear in the flash animations. Speaking of which, I was disappointed to see an absence of Atoko and Nyarue as they were some hilarious characters in the flash animation. Putting that aside, the TV series involves Mahiro Yasaka getting caught up in Nyaruko's wild antics after Nyaruko falls for Mahiro via love at first sight. That's really the series and unfortunately, there is a big dip in the series when it begins to go on a huge "romance" tangent that felt completely unfitting for the series. Luckily, the show seems to realize the pitfall and quickly unwinds itself. Furthermore, while mostly the subber's fault on this aspect, the references were not clearly conveyed to the end viewer. Regardless of referencing Cthulu mythos or not, the series is really not fun for many don't know it or lack general otaku knowledge. It's one of those parody/slapstick shows where you really need to understand references to get the punchline and enjoy it to the fullest. That said, I had a blast having known a fair amount.  I would say at the end of the day, I actually preferred the short 5 minute flash animations over a lengthy TV series. A lot of times, the show kept going on and on when it was obvious it could have ended at various points. Also, the "countdown" timer on the shorts made it much more interesting to watch.

Art was pretty much as expected given preview images. Generic and rough is all I can really say, probably the lowest quality in a long time. XEBEC's animation is also fairly subpar, especially when compared to Upotte!!, which ran this season and Rinne no Lagrange, which aired last season. Fluidity is okay and visuals are the prettiest but at leash flashy enough to match the series.

Music? OP was memorable and hilarious, but not something I would listen to on a long term basis. ED theme is more passive and catchy that could be memorable. I've said this in many reviews already this season, but with many good themes this season, this isn't on the high end. Background music is good and filled with crazy-like fun. Sound effects are okay. As for seiyuus, Kana Asumi drives this show to the deep end with her non-stop speed talk as Nyaruko. She never ceases to amaze me as to how fast she can really speak. Eri Kitamura also amazes me as a female seiyuu who can have a lower voice than Romi Paku or Yuu Kobayashi. Very well done as Mahiro.

Enjoyment? The show can only be fully enjoyed by having a solid anime/video game knowledge, especially in mechs and Cthulhu knowledge. If you lack these, you probably didn't understand what half of what Nyaruko was talking about. Putting the jokes aside, the show itself is not very interesting. Lack of suspense and tension unlike the flash animation where at least some big block was going to come crashing down on the Earth with an interesting counter on it every week.

Overall, Nyaruko starts off fun but loses steam fast. 20-30 minutes an episode is too much for a slapstick show like this. 5 minutes is enough. What they should have done was 5 minute episodes in this kind of quality rather than flash animations. While Nyaruko is unique for the whole Cthulhu mythos, the slapstick and supernatural aspects are better elsewhere, including Pani Poni Dash!, Seitokai no Ichizon, and Hayate no Gotoku! The animation is also a big drawback from it being anywhere close to eye candy, especially as a 2012 title.

Preliminary Score: 6/10
Final Score: 5/10

But deep down I do belive that Mahiro does enjoy his time with Nyaruko, but of course he can only handle oh so much of the Mythos Anitics before loosing his cool.

In any case it seems that the DreamLands bit was just a passing thought, but if a second season does get curned out from the depths of insanity I have a guess as to where they will go next.

Truth be told I don't think anyone could say no to the trio if they ever pulled a look like this off you know.

Oh and a side note on Nyaroko, the thing is she's baised off of the only Outer God that actually has a personality, and not only that, but it's never a good idea to cross her unless you want to be a perament resident of Arkham Asylum or worse you know.

You know, Woofie-san, I seem to recall a certain Crow Tengu "reporting" a certain anime series to you that involved a red-headed Yuri girl who was also demon in nature along with a lusty, green-eyed crazy as-all-hell deity who was after a human lolo of a boy. It seems the report paid off and you got hooked...good for you!
I would so not want our lolo, Mahiro-kun, to be sent into the bowels of "A" hell but he does need to take matters into his own hands and get those pesky demons off his back so to give him a breather...but with doubts of a second season (which I may not watch anyway) we may not live to see that happen.

Pretty much it bioled down to him wanting the top quality eroges that were out but went about it in a very bad way. I mean you'd think he would of done what Nyaruko normally would do and just buy it outright like anyone else.

Well, if he has chosen to be smothered to death for the rest of his life, I suppose that is the way it will go down.  I think if it was moi, I would have killed them all by now or first taken advantage of N-chan's advances then killed her off while she was in the throes of passion...

Mahiro somewhat accepting how his life is as of now. Although it seems that he did get closer with Nyaruko

Honestly he did what any normal/otaku person would do when a loli tends to want to play something like that.

A cutie-pie of a kid for sure...glad she ended up as part of the gang in the end...I was sad to see her little "green butler" turn into a baddie though, Woofie-san. He was just too evil and had to go...glad it was N-chan who ended his sorry existence.
Overall, despite it being way too silly at times and fun at others, 5/10.

Okay so the last epsidoe was pretty much kind of a wrap to all of this now. Well pretty much I wasn't expecting Mahiro to be trapped in some closed space reality like that, but it came close to what I thought would happen next episode.

In any case prety much it was kind of pathetic to think that Mahiro was going to be killed off because he wouldn't let Guttatan play an eroge.
Honestly he did what any normal/otaku person would do when a loli tends to want to play something like that.

Anyways prety much things ended on a good note with Mahiro somewhat accepting how his life is as of now. Although it seems that he did get closer with Nyaruko here, but at the same time I want to say that even Kuuko has slightly fallen for him in the end as well. Granted she still wants Nyaruko, but if she can get her though him she'd be glad to do so it seems.

In any case I did enjoy the series, and would like to see another season of this kicked out, if that ever does happen though.

So not only did Mahiro have more or less of a tough time dealing with this lost lil loli but having to deal with how Nyaruko up close tended to make him a bit giddy of her.

In any case it seems now that whatever Nyaruko wants to do Kuu-chan and Hastur tend to follow her lead since.... well since it's probablly benificial for them to get closer to either Nyruko and/or Mahiro respectivly of course.

In any case it looks like the final episode is more or less what Mahiro always wanted thoughout most of the series now, but it looks like he may wish for those chaotic days he was having with the gang and all.

Well with episode 9 it seems that we may have something to do with the Dreamlands once more.... maybe. Although I have to say with Mahiro swapping bodies with Nyaruko pretty much was going to be rather interesting.

I mean Kuu-chan now has a rather valid excuse to attack Mahiro this time around, while Hastur still tends to want to play with Mahiro no matter what. Also, I can hazard a guess as to what Nyaruko did with Mahiro's body which would be the first thing you'd do if you happened to be in the body of the guy you lust over.

Also, the end of this epsidoe kind of made me think of this very pic right here, and for some reason I had this feeling she would pull a sudden stunt like that.
