So I restarted this series by re-watching the first 3 episodes, I remembered almost all of it but it was nice seeing it again from the beginning because I hadn't seen past episode 3 before.

I marathoned this series today as well as watching the unaired/OVA episode too.

The series was great and I really thought Yuuko had left the world after having her date. However, I knew that she will be back since her vanishing only happened 3/4 in the episode, so I knew she would be back.

At first I thought Niiya's summing up of Yuuko's "tragic" past at the rooftop seemed awkward and I didn't believe it at first.....I sort felt that can't be right. However, an episode or 2, it was revealed to be the case after Niiya touched Shadow Yuuko and experienced Yuuko's painful past.

So when, the series came to it's season 1 finale, I thought it wrapped up the story pretty well but apparently the anime used 23 chapters of the manga (according to M-U) and I'm not sure how the mangaka has managed to continue the series after that, there's a whole 15+ chapters after the end of the anime, which has really intrigued me because really....what now? They have already solved Yuuko's past...what is left to do now? I guess that's what's making me want to read the manga...again the anime did a good job in making the consumer interested in the alternative product, the manga.

I thought the OP and ED were great and complimented the anime very well, to show Yuuko's sorrow and her loneliness at times when Niiya is at home.

My score for the TV series is 9/10, it was really really good and I'm sorta glad they revealed her past in this season rather than not because we might not have got a 2nd season. So I believe revealing her tragic past was a bold move by the mangaka because it's such a huge mysterious, which makes me curious so to how the author is continuing the story.

The unaired/OVA episode, Tasogare Otome x Amnesia: Taima Otome, was nice to watch and I think it takes place after the last episode of the TV series because the last part of the last episode showed a scene where Kirie was drinking milk to make her boobs grow more, there was an empty milk bottle on the floor and she was drinking another one. The unaired/OVA started off with 2 empty milk bottles on the floor and Kirie walking towards something, most likely to confront both Yuuko and Niiya, which she indeed does in the episode.

Overall, it was a fun watch but didn't add anything to the story and that's why I'll knock off a point from the score I gave the TV series. Hence, the score for the unaired/OVA episode is a 8/10.

I liked this series more because I really liked the 2 main characters unlike Inu x Boku SS.

Does the anime follow the manga? I've watched the first 3 episodes of this series when it aired and then didn't continue but I'm thinking of marathoning this series before New Years.

I'm asking after seeing one of the posts above me saying that a season 2 is unlikely, I really like series or manga with a ghost girl such as Asura Cryin', My Lovely Ghost Kana, Natsu no Arashi, etc.

I mean I guess I can just read the manga after watching the TV series.

I think I might have preferred if the show just ended on that scene of the notebook where Teichi wrote his goodbye.
That definitely would have left the viewers with some closure, but....

Anyway, this is what happens with anime based on incomplete source material, I bet all of this was/will be more fleshed out in the manga (?or novel?) version.
I'm guessing that they wanted to keep the possibility of having a second season by leaving us with an open ending. I'm a little curious now what the manga could be about after the mystery behind Yuuko's death has been solved. Does the group go around solving other mysteries together, like I thought the show would be about initially?
I guess it was too much to ask for the alternate ending we wished in episode 12 director's cut and noticed they only added a few extended scenes without importance, so yes the cast keeps solving mysteries (+ fanservice) as seen in the OVA but lacked an ongoing plot or cliffhanger for season 2 -.- i think that's all for the moment...

Tasogare Otome x Amnesia (TV series 12 episodes) spring 2012 - 8/10
TOxA ep.12 "Dusk Maiden" (BR/DVD Director's cut) fall 2012 - 7/10
TOxA ep.13 "Demon Slaying Maiden" (OVA) fall 2012 - 6/10

Finally! Despite certain anime characters being remembered for crying hysterically and all for naught, well, the "special" was at last released.

Won't say much except it was nice to take a walk down memory lane "ghost" style.

^ Or as an alternative, they could've ditched the "serious" subplot and just make it the fanservicey show it wanted to be all along.

If they had ended this show with Yuuko crossing over, I would have given it an 8 because that would have been a strong ending.
At first glance that might seem sad, but this ending is much more depressing if you ask me because they are prolonging the inevitable. Teiichi can't stay in HS forever, and the longer they put off saying goodbye the harder it will be.
The goodbye scene was emotional and touching (despite the fact that Teiichi's whining was getting on my nerves) and if they had ended it with Teiichi moving on with his life it would have been acceptable, but this.....

ANYWAYS, I ended up giving this a 7/10 like most of you, because I felt the rest of the show was decent. It did provide some laughs, I was interested in the mysteries presented and they did a good job with tying it all together when solving the mystery behind her death.

That's kinda how I felt about this show as I just finished marathoning the last half. I probably would have rated it something like a 9/10 had the last few minutes of the show not occured. But they did and Yuuko comes back and forced happy ending is in place. I think I might have preferred if the show just ended on that scene of the notebook where Teichi wrote his goodbye.

Zero no Tsukaima is probably one of the few exceptions to the latter....though it is split across four series.

I've always felt like there were never any sequels planned for ZnT while they were making the first season. The sequels felt so tacked on, same as with Shana.

Drama shows maybe, but not usually school romance. Those that do are an exception to the rule.

There are still a few...albeit many of which are not very good. Shoujo and Josei titles are more frequent to follow the trend of "confession not at the end" though (e.g. Kimi ni Todoke, Nodame Cantabile, Honey and Clover, Fushigi Yuugi) unlike male protagonist led titles....Zero no Tsukaima is probably one of the few exceptions to the latter....though it is split across four series. I should also note School Days is a massive exception to everything.
