Year: 2007
Studio: Toei Animation

Koizumi Risa and Ohtani Atsushi are the classes' popular comedy act. They arent actual comedians, but seeing the way they quarrel with each other, people cannot help think of them that way.

When Risa is alone on Christmas day, the person who cheers her up is Ohtani. Risa notices that something has changed in her heart, although they still banter as usual. She's at first indecisive, but Risa becomes sure that her feelings for Ohtani are of love.

At the school festival during their second year, Risa confesses her love. What is Ohtanis reply? What will their relationship become by graduation?

There's a significant amount more. The anime doesn't stray very much from the manga, with the exception of rushing through a few things near the end. But there are a couple more volumes that weren't covered in the anime. Either way, it's worth reading right from the beginning, even if you've seen the anime. Go check it out, you won't be dissappointed.

Heya, I've been wondering for a while.. for those that have read the manga, is the manga it self alot longer than the anime? as in, is there much more detail? continuation to the series it self? I just finished Lovely complex last night and I must say it is one of my favorite animes of all time. I was wondering if it was worth checking out the manga for it, thanks in advance.

PS - Finn-icky (my almost 20 year old single son will be at anime-Iowa this summer.)

Thanks for the tip, but as I live across that great ole Pond (Sweden to be precise) and as I'm but a penny-less, out-of-work youngster, I don't think I'll be heading to any con's anytime soon =(

Besides which, I'm 25 and (despite me having the mental age of a 14 year-old ) I'm sure you don't want a cradle robber with her mitts all over your innocent son! *nods sagely* Un, un. Sou deshou ne. *sigh* Pity. An Ootani all to myself, that's almost enough incitement for me to be tempted to sell my right kidney and hop on a plane to Iowa.

I found this to be an enjoyable anime and it did not have to resort to nose bleeds and panty shots. I was able to enjoy the series and did not worry about showing it to my 14 year old daughter.

I wholly agree with you there. I sick of the gratuitous panty shots (when are they ever really warranted? Unless the show's so bad they need the ratings). I only wish my 13 year-old niece would be interested in a series like this, but unfortunately romantic comedies aren't her thing - unless they also involve swords, magic, ninjas or all of the above. *pout*

Ah, off to watch what I've d/l! Oh and smittles? I'm sure I will!

The issues that the couple faces are more real with misunderstandings and complications that mirror real life.

So far I've only watched the first episode but my initial reaction is:

DA * I * SU * KI!!!!

This probably has to do with me being a total nerd about the dialect, but I LOVE Kansai-ben! And Koizumi and Ootani might turn out to be my all-time favorite anime-couple if it continues like the 1st ep - they just click so well. I want an Ootani of my very own....

As Much as I abhor many of the distributors lately (cuts, translation rewrites, and dubs) I really want to Have a hard copy of this one In my hands soo bad... I even reserved Lucky Star even though the dub preview from Bandai made me want to vomit. (one of the characters sounded like she smokes a pack a day)

yeah but im not sure id like to see much rika fanservice..... she is flippin hilarious though. And yeah shoujos seem so far (to me) to either have barely any fanserive, or lots of censored(vague term) sex... lol. i.e. bokurano
