| QUOTE (Mowerman @ Apr 19 2008, 05:24 PM) | Well actually the bugatti veyron is a street car which does 407 kph, But that is a fairly recent car... But the 1974 Ford XB GT was indeed the fastest 4 door street car at the time.. It could acheive speeds of 200 mph.. That's 300+ kph
And also Drag cars can acheive speeds of 500 kph.. covering 1/4 mile in 5 seconds... But those engines are always blowing up and can't ever run for longer than the race is predicted to last. [/QUOTE] The cars you list are exotic. Ford GT, approximate weight, 2 times that of the 240/280, mostly due to the fact that it has a Ford 400 V8 engine in it and I don't ever recall seing a 4 door version on that one. It was 2 door Gull wing style. This car is a tuned 240/280zx with an inline 6 cylinder motor. I have owned 2 280 ZX turbos and I can tell you, they can't do 200 mph. At around 120, they are floating. 140 and you are almost into the redline in 5th gear. Much faster and the front end will lift right off the pavement. Also, in Japan, everything is rated in kp/h. They use the metric system.
I had to laugh, sorta when I seen a new group picked this up. I wonder if they will complete it or realize that it has already lost, badly, in comparison to the other car race type animes out there. I mean, come on. 4 accidents in 6 episodes. What is this, Carrie? |
Mowerman - hi
the 240z they use in the anime was actually built, and not just once, but two different cars have been built, one in 1988, and one in 2004
the 1988 one was the only one true to the z, and when the 1991 movie came out, it was used in it
i have the only two known pictures on the car, from 1991, and it was dyno rated at the rear wheels at 600hp+, torque is unknown.
i also have the full engine and body and brake and suspension etc part list and tuning done on it, and all i can tell u, is that the body was strenthened to be stronger than nearly all high speed race cars, and the suspension was modified and in some cases replaced with different suspension.
the car in 1991 could do 300km/h at 5500rpm, and could rev all the way to 9000 redline, 8600 safely, and was a L series L28 motor, with the following done to car and motor:
Engine- P90A head, F54 block, both sourced from an '83 Turbo 280ZX Triple Mikuni side-draft carburetors, 47mm bore [?] Twin Garrett T3/T04 hybrid turbochargers HKS SuperSequential Blow Off Valve Custom fabricated intake plenum, 47mm velocity stacks Custom grind camshaft, 290* duration [?], .510 lift [?] Forged internals, ceramic coated forged dished pistons [7.4:1 CR] Claimed 620BHP@6000, TQ unknown
Trans- Nissan/Borg Warner T5 5-speed, non-"World Class" Twin-plate Ogura [?] clutch
Diff- R200 VLSD sourced from '87 300ZX Turbo Special Edition
Suspension/Body- SSS [Speed Shop Shinohara] coilovers, custom valving Custom sway bars [SSS?] SSS custom 8-point cage Takata 5-point harnesses Bride racing buckets
Brakes- R32 4-piston front calipers, cross-drilled/slotted 11.5" rotors [F], cross-drilled/slotted 11.5" rotors, calipers unknown
the car weighed in at 1051kg, and has a almost 50/50 weight distribution, and lowered center of gravity, no doubt the car was a dangerous car, as shown in the manga and anime, it was not easy to drive, but if you could control it, it was as stable at high speeds as any other top end sports car.
the entire car was built in 1988 - 1991 by SSS, or speed shop shinohara, but like all small tuning shops, they closed down in 1994, and no one has heard anymore from them.
the above specs where found on hybridz.org, and were verified by JUN tunig in japan, and the japan DMV, where the car was registered.
but yes, u are correct in one thing, a stock 280zx turbo, can never do this spped, as for one thing it was far heavyier on the body and chassis than the 240z body and chassis, therin being the reason the 240z was used, and do remember, this car was built over 4yrs in time, and was extensively modified and tested, and in 1991, was registered as a road legal KAI modified car. over fours years the amount spent to build it was in excess of $50000, not counting labour. i am in the process of replicating it from the paper specs, and will let u know one day if it was successful |
