Kaze no Shoujo Emily is based on the novel, Emily of New Moon, by the Canadian writer L. M. Montgomery. It centres on the life of Emily Starr, an imaginative and precocious child, who is an avid writer. After her beloved father dies, Emily is orphaned. For the first in her life she meets her mother’s family, the Murrays. This is the same family that refused to give her mother permission to marry her father. Emily feels far from welcomed by her newly discovered relatives. Further, it appears that she is, in fact, unwanted when it is decided that lots will be drawn to choose who will take on the responsibility of caring for her. It is finally established that she will live at New Moon, a farm on Prince Edward Island. Emily begins her new life with her aunts Elizabeth and Laura and her cousin Jimmy. She clings to her father’s promise that “Spring will come, no matter where you go” as well as her determination to become a professional writer.

Having seen the first episode and re-read that section of the book, it would appear that this anime follows the original story fairly closely although some additions and omissions have been made. Of course not everything can be included … Mike, Emily’s favourite cat is dispensed with altogether as are some classic lines like “She has the brain of a hen and the sensibility of a cow. May jackals sit on her grandmother’s grave!”. If you find that you enjoy the anime then I would recommend that you seek out the book on which it was based. Emily of New Moon is the first book of three in L. M. Montgomery’s Emily series. [Nahrallah]

Hi, I was wondering, is anyone else having the same problem as I'm having, i.e. the subs won't stay long enough to be read. I managed to download the first episode but its impossible to watch due to the choppy...uh, -ness of it all. And having to pause ever five seconds to read the stupid subs is really annoying.

That said, I love, love, LOVE the books and I really would like to follow this anime. Is any other fansub group taking it up? I don't much like the format DP is using (.mkv) T-T

Hmm.. Maybe your computer is having problems cathing up with all three streams since the video is 720p HD resolution.... Which looks great, but a dated machine might have problems playing back smoothly. If you do have a newer machine, try shutting down other applications which may be eating up CPU cycles... If you have Windows Vista, turn off the Aero GUI. Also, try a different player all together, such as VLC...?

Its been awhile since I posted....yeah, I'm slow, what can I say?

Why shouldn't I mention the war? Is it, dare I say, FORBIDDEN? Pssst, I'm on your side!

Back on topic....yeah, I used to read them when I was a kid...so yeah, I like them. Not sure if I'd go so far as to watch them, they are really cute books, though.

hypermelissa: Shhh ... "Don't Mention the War"! On topic: The first two episodes have already been released and are available for download here at FTV. Are you a fan of the Emily books? Did you know that this isn't the first time that one of L. M. Montgomery's books has been adapted for anime? Anne of Green Gables was adapted in 1979 as Akage no An. Clips from the series are available on the Akage No An YouTube Videos page. If Kaze no Shoujo Emily proves to be popular then perhaps some more of L. M. Montgomery's books might be adapted for anime.

Hmmmmmmmmm, since I'm new I have absolutely NO clue what this war is about. Um...I'm a little scared to ask, but I will anyways.

And on topic....I had no idea that the books were turned into an anime. I'll have to check it out, whenever it comes out (or if it already has).

Smokie: Fun? Sorry but that would just ruin it for me ... if it hasn't already. *Nahrallah desperately tries to return to viewing Cousin Jimmy as awkward and ridiculous* Looks like you've earned this Smokie! *slaps seal on Smokie's forehead*

Smokie: I believe that Cousin Jimmy is a very poorly formed character in the anime. In my opinion he is awkward and ridiculous. He is a much different character in the book! This is one area where the anime does not do justice to the book! I don't know that I'd quite take your view on things though. In fact, I think that it is time for me to back away very slowly because you're freaking me out way more than poor Cousin Jimmy!

I never read the novel so I don't have anything to compare the anime to. I imagine Jimmy's character was much different. I'm also aware he in not a pedo. I know he is just meant to be kindly to a little girl who just ost her dad and is in a strange situation. I'm just kind of perverted so I look upon some of his action as those of a pedophiles. Plus its more fun that way.

On to episode 2! The second episode presents the most significant clash of wills between Emily and Aunt Elizabeth so far. Emily discovers that New Moon does have its own form of beauty that can provide her with inspiration for writing. She appears to decide that she can make a home for herself in this new environment. School promises to provide Emily with new challenges.
