"If it is alive, even if it is a God, I can kill it."

This is the story about a girl who unwillingly obtains the ability to see "death lines" - the seams of life - in all creation. Her name is Ryogi Shiki. In the beginning, she accepts the state imposed on her indifferently. However, the moment she questions her life, she ironically falls into a coma for two years.

When she comes to, she finds that the world had changed… Or rather, the change is in herself. So, wielding a shining knife, hunting monsters living on the borders of the normal and abnormal worlds becomes her only purpose to live… All the while knowing that there is someone keeping an eye on her.

Anyhow, ANN's review is bashing at the price Rightfully so, I might add, since $400 for a BD series set is way overpriced.

But anyway, flipped through the -remix- (didn't bother watching cause there aren't subs, and I hate watching recaps anyway), and it didn't look all that exciting. It's 1 hour short (with titles, so roughly 45-50 minutes of pure footage), and basically recaps key moments from first 6 movies in chronological order. IMO, nothing worthwhile, although them making it makes sense since IIRC it was released sometime before movie 7 so it's a valid marketing move.

The quality for the rest of the movies looks better than the DVD but only marginally so. I'm still debating on whether I see a significant difference between 720p and 1080p. Probably not so much on laptop screen, but maybe on a big screen.

^ I was kinda expecting it to have been remastered for BD though, considering the ridiculous pricing (wasn't it like several hundred $?). This is a bit sad.

$600 in Japan, $400 in US. The ridiculous pricing in Japan is because it's Japan, their Blu-Rays are $80 per disc and there are about 8 discs in this package. US was planning to retail for $600 but Right Stuf and Aniplex USA decided to bring the price down since Blu-Rays in the US are for some reason cheaper. For example, Ga-Rei -Zero- is getting its whole series on Blu-Ray and DVD bundled together in a single package for about $65 in April.

Eeh, bad upscales? I was hoping the 1080p BR rips would be significantly better... the difference between DVD and 720p BR is only marginal...

I'll be really pissed if you're right once the enormous DL dinishes

LOL the 1080p ones are massive upscales. It's not like Kara no Kyoukai was remastered. 720p only looks slightly more crisp in detail, but that's because of the difference between a blu-ray and a dvd. Don't forget that Kara no Kyoukai was produced in 480p and not 720p. All I know is that movie 5 and 7 are a bit clearer but overall, it's not worth the HD sadly.

^ The KnK -remix- thingy is just supposed to be a mash-up of all movies. Can't imagine it to be anything special.

I'm aware of that but it would be nice to have/skim. Though it's a shame that it will probably be a terrible upscale like the other movies were except the epilogue as the epilogue was made as an HD episode.

Curiously enough, the collection of English subs I got from the BR rip doesn't include -remix- subs. Will have to wait and see if the 1080p rip has them included.

Oh and the other ratings from me:
Movie 1: 8
Movie 2: 7
Movie 3: 9
Movie 4: 8
Movie 5: 10
Movie 6: 8
Movie 7: 9
Gate of Seventh Heaven: no subs (yet)
Epilogue: 6

While knowing that the epilogue was not part of the main story, I was really annoyed by one main thing. That "thing" was Shiki saying the SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN! Seriously, while the dialogue had a lot of depth and strong meaning in them, it was really unnecessary for Shiki to be repeating the same thing using different words for 20-25 minutes of the episode. I wasn't expecting much from the epilogue to begin with, but I really did not expect me to facepalm multiple times throughout the 30 minutes. I was really hoping for a more insightful conversation between Kokuto and Shiki but in the end Kokuto mainly stood there and listened.

Ok after watching the epilogue I have to say that it was to wrap up the whole part about Ryougi's 3 personalities she has. As for why it was brighter than the other episodes I think it's because this was more along the line of when everything is said and done things go back to its normal self.

Anways they did a good job on explaining Ryougi's personalities and how Kokuto tends to show some kind of feelings about Shiki to begin with.

In any case it's a bit upsetting that they didn't go and introduce Ryougi Mana at all, but oh well.

Also, since ufotable did a good job over this series I'm glad to hear that they are doing Fate/Zero now.

Well, I agree that movie 1 was the worst, but movie 4 was for me pretty much perfect, except for maybe Kokutou's Engrish singing

As for your other point, I just DLd movie 4 BluRay release by gg, and yep it looks the same. I think you're right about the mood though, it does affect the style a bit, esp. since most of epilogue is set in an area with extremely bright light. There are few scenes like that in the other movies that I remember, but the ones that I found in movie 4 look more or less the same as epilogue.

Anyway, for KnK fans I recommend heading over to Nyaatorrents where QTS has released 720p BR-rips for all of the movies, with separate official subs. DLing the first two to see what they look like, though my snailtorrent may take a while, university firewalls suck indeed. There's also 1080p 27GB rip for those who have space to waste, though I'm reluctant to DL that because the torrent info says nothing about whether the subs are included in the files or not.

I should really get to reading the novels sometime, but reading in a foreign language you aren't fully comfortable with is a royal pain. I'm still mad at the lazy-asses over at Del Rey who have had the license for years and haven't bothered to translate any of the books.
