As a child, Shion Ishiwatari's parents were murdered in their own home. Shion escaped unharmed, yet the trauma caused her to lose her voice. The only evidence police found was a shougi board and one piece "the King". Neighbours and close friends of the family, Shinji and Sachiko Yasuoka, adopted Shion and taught Shion how to play shougi. As the years passed, she became known as a genius and quite a famous player. Now, as her fame rises, her past resurfaces and she discovers that being a professional shogi player may just lead to finding her parents' killer.

The ending of this anime is ridiculous! I will not believe that the Meijin is the killer. It wasn't shown that he is capable of murder. The flashbacks of this character showed him as a sane person. He can be reasoned with and is with grip in reality. You can argue the anyone can kill but for different reasons. If you're crazy you don't need a reason and if you're sane you need a bigger reason to kill. I would even accept this motive if Hani showed some guilt but didn't which leads to the conclusion that he is insane but wasn't established earlier in the series.

Ahh! Finally finished! Those last three episodes were so intense. Hani-Meijin was completely crazy.  I don't know anything about Shougi, but it bothered me that so many of Shion's opponents kept blabbing on to disrupt her.  I suppose that's what made her a great shougi player, that she could concentrate despite all that.  Particularly when those people are talking about your parents' murder and even confessing to it!

I always wish the little wrap-ups at the end were longer and that we weren't trying to watch them through the credits and with the end theme playing. (Shana was the same way, as I recall.) I could keep watching Shion! I really liked the characters a lot and wish there was more. Sigh. Really good series.

i also watch Nabari Na Ou, can tell me what "No Ou" means plz? im curious.

well first off it's "no Ou", not "na". Ou just means king in japanese. The "no" article in japanese is used to show possession/description. In Nabari's case, Nabari no Ou would translate to "The King of Nabari" or "Nabari's King' (same thing really, both make sense for the show). for Shion no Ou, it translates to "Shion's King" referring to the shougi piece.

Heh... they sure do release the episodes slowly these days. Oh well guess they have a lot on their plate.

I really enjoy this anime especially since its darker than Hikaru no Go. Seems there are a few develops though at least going by ep 19 Hani-meijn is the killer?  And Shion was left alive for the purpose of becoming an excellent shouji player?  Seems she was actually taught a little by the killer.

The last three episodes exist!

They're just in a .RMVB format, which is something entirely new to me. You can find them on isohunt if you dig around a little.

Happy Hunting :D

What happened to this show?

I haven't watched all the available episodes yet, so naturally they wouldn't release any more episodes until I've had the chance to catch up. You see, the world actually revolves around me.

but seriously, I definitely don't know. My guess is that whoever has taken the charge of subbing this series is putting more focus into other series. It wouldn't surprise me if this wasn't the most popular show of all time.

...but then again, I might be a fool...

...gotta love shion!

hooray that I'm not the only one watching this show!

But dang, I still haven't gotten over the hump that is episode 11. I've got to start watching again!

It's almost too tense to watch sometimes (I get a stomach ache watching some of the shougi matches) but I love the way the plot has developed.

lol, seriously? I haven't found any of the matches really "tense" at all. I just like to chill to the easygoing vibe. People think hard when they play chess (or shougi, or whatever), or at least I do. That's nothing earth-shattering for me. But dang, when that idiotic shougi-prodigy boy made the "king" symbol on his forehead, mocking shion's father's death, augh!  That part was intense, I'll give you that.
