The 2007-2008 Pailsen Files was a 12 episode OVA and the 2009 movie was a 2 hour recap. They are essentially the same thing, but the movie felt like it paced and tied the material together better than the OVA did. The OVA often had a few loose screws, especially in the early episodes.

Just a quick question here but isn't OVA Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Pailsen Files (ペールゼン・ファイルズ) AN OVA!? I heard they released a movie two years later. But what was the difference? I mean, of course, for all marketing purposes, releasing more is awesome, but does this follow the same storyline....Someone explain this to me please? So, it looks very new. Did they remake something recently? Because I watched what was out, but now I'm just plain confused.

Both episodes where quite interesting, to me at least, War is once again portrayed beautifuly.And I really think this might develope into a great mecha/war/conspiration anime. Most probably will end up on my favourits list.

Jeez. How great is it to be a Mecha fan right now, with the big three, Gundam, Macross, and VOTOMS all having series subbed? Though ATs are by far the least aesthetic mechs of the group, they have always struck me as the most plausible due to their generic and disposable nature. I've also always liked the way they moved. Code Geass owes ATs a nod for their drop-down wheels and skating action.

I just wathced the first two eps of the Palisen files, a nicely tied in continuation from the Roots of Ambition OVA, and not a remake of the original. Chirico once again finds himself deep in it as a lab rat for his cold hearted commanders. Though he's in for more constant torture, you just have to feel sorry for the guys he's teamed up with, since working with him seems to be a death sentence for anyone. Which explains why the kid tried to stab him in episode 3, and possibly why whoever was trying to snipe him was trying to kill him too.

On the down side, the CGI ATs so far leave me cold. In the opening and the first battle they walk too ploddingly, and I have never been a fan of switching back and forth between CGI and cell-type animation. Also, the method of their river-crossing attack really seemed silly. But some of the action sequences from the preview for the next episode look pretty good, so hopefully it is just a question of the animators finding their legs.

Well....its a REMAKE or a spin off series of the original 52 episodes anime series Armored Trooper VOTOMS...and all of that is apparently going to be made into 12 episodes...if its a remake.

Summary:

“Caught up in an illegal mission to steal military secrets, Armored Trooper Chirico Cuvie is on the run from his own army. Left to die by his traitorous commanders, Chirico makes his way to Uoodo City - a hive of criminals and refugees - where he`ll need all of his battlefield-honed skills to survive. Thoughts:

The interesting thing about this anime is not only the fact that nobody seems to talk about it, it’s also the director who can send it into a really interesting direction: Ryousuke Takahashi. He’s worked on many series in the past, but most importantly: he directed Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto, Flag and Hi no Tori. This means that we can expect an extremely solid and realistic piece of work here.
