So for anyone who is wondering about Hamaji's secret (the cross-dresser).... in Root After and Another, the sequel game to H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~, there is a Hamaji route and yes Takuma goes gay for him.  But that's not all, Hamaji is not only a guy, but he's literally half guy, half girl.  He's not really a full hermaphrodite though

In other words, the anime made him flat on purpose to impose that he was a full guy.  Yeah, probably so little kids don't asking their parents about this XD

On that note, care to ponder the ending between Hamaji and Maki now XD

This series still brings back good "memories" for this year. Plus, awesome cg I found while wandering around recently..

I assume this is in the sequel game via Hayami's route since this didn't occur in the original H2O game.

As DragonStar said i noticed the train tracks also and it seems ironic that the same incident happened again to him, and if you notice in the end she did change also so she couldnt have been a ghost cause as we saw with otoha she stayed the same as when she died all those years ago besides the fact that she kinda adapted to her sisters story book but kohinata seemed like she grew up also so i wouldnt think she was dead unless they aged her and when they brought her back and yet this still reminds me of the peom footsteps in the sand even tho it has so many authors it ridiculous

It's been a while... I believe otaha said something like 'it was hard getting the spirit council to allow this' (correct me if my memorys wrong). So i'm pretty sure Hayami did get hit by that train, I think the reason why there wasn't a large splatter of blood and guts is that hirose only saw another girl he loved get taken away from him, so in this case it's symbolism over realism. I can imagine hayami considering herself unworthy of hirose but I find it hard to believe that she could detach herself enough to leave him alone for several years.

it's been a while since I watched the show but I seem to remember that the ghost of dead girl does appear right at the very end say say "take care of her this time" which implies that she convinced the rulers of the spirit realm to return Kohinita to the mortal world for Hirose's sake.

Aloha,
I had just recently found this forum, and was reading things about this great Anime that just managed to watch about 30 mins ago.

I've been at tears and while everyone seems to wonder if Hayami is a spirit or something at the end of the Anime. I've been a bit of a mess and its taken me wanting to watch that sequence over and over trying to make sense. (I didn't mind Otoha being a ghost, but bringing Hayami back was a little to contrived for me.) I kept thinking he broke down again and he is seeing another 'fantasy' again when she steps out. I wanted to believe that it was really her and had to watch that sequence again and again.

I managed to notice one TINY detail and I might be completely wrong on how trains work. But far as I know I saw TWO sets of tracks at the Railroad Crossing. Hayami and the little boy that she grabbed were standing on the pair of tracks that were FARTHEST from Takuma. The train that we see that appears to run them over are in the CLOSEST tracks. I find it very difficult to believe that there are two trains in unison running on both tracks at the same time.I always thought two tracks meant two different directions.

In some small way, I wondered if she 'faked' her death a little. She does seem like someone who doesn't feel she is fully worthy of Takuma and seeing him healing because of her 'supposed death'. Would she have been willing to stay away as long as possible to help the village and him heal.

I juts finish seeing this series and I really liked it. the ending was pretty confusing but I got to agree with ONAGER. I think Hayami was resurrected.
They should make a 13ng episode to clear things out.

I haven't been this depressed since the last episode of Cowboy Bebop all those years ago... and even so, that wasn't nearly as bad as this...
