| QUOTE (snowpsyche @ Jan 29 2008, 08:17 PM) | I also love the humor in this one. I'm not sure why I like the series so much, since usually I'm not a horror fan. But this one doesn't take itself too seriously. Definitely pastiche, with the opening reminiscent of 50's comics. In the second epi there is a joke about East meets West and I feel you can see that with the animation style. And I love the disco opening! This anime is just cool. That was funny! (I'm not very coordinated, I got toasted pretty fast.) |
I agree. It's horror-ish, but with a comedic touch to it. Ah yes, it was funny when they cracked that joke about when the "East meets West" vampire style lol.
I also have to say that from the first two episodes I quite enjoyed this series so far. These two episodes have been sitting around and I've finally sat down and seen it. Comparing this to Mononoke? I can't possibly do that. Even though Mononoke was sorta "horror-ish", Kitaro here is just another concept. I love the animation style, the theme reminds me of a 60s horror classic, and this show that used to come on tv when I was a kid, I loved it. Damn I can't remember the name now, it had this freaky zombie dude who used to tell "freaky stories", and no, it wasn't "Freaky Stories" ("this happened to a friend of a friend of mine"..ha ha I wonder how many people will get that joke ).
Uhm, so ya, basically, Kitaro is super cool, and this storyline is very intriguing. The Ratman was slick, doing that little "yoink" thing, stealing the money at the end of the second episode. Ha ha, well I'm looking forward to the next episode! Wooh! |
