I'm confused with the new artwork except maybe for the two main characters [loli and guy]. Can someone post comparisons/pictures from OVAs and the main series? Just to clarify who's who. Sorry for my poor memory.

In the original Anime she was the chick who kicked Shinkurou's ass and took Murasaki back to her family. She was wearing a plain black suit and not carrying Katanas when she did, though.

As I understand it, the first series wasn't a straight adaptation of the Novels and they took quite a few liberties with the characters. This is probably much closer to the source material.

In the original series, she was known as Jian-Xin Lin. In the OVAs, she is known as Lin Chen Xing. Both are voiced by Ueda Kana.

The characters I'm more interested in are Kirihiko Kirishima and Lucy May, both of which should be new characters introduced in the OVA. To be honest though, I was expecting a lot more out of this first episode. I didn't like how things were rushed and not to mention poorly animated. Too many scene jumps and poor flow of plot even if the episode was broken up into three parts. Hopefully the second episode, which will be bundled with the 6th light novel volume in December, will do a better job since I was not impressed after seeing the original series.

As far as I remember, Lin wasn't even present in the original anime and is basically a manga character we only just now see animated.

So I was right with Yuunos personality? Wow that surprises me ^^ I thought I just forgot somehow since its been 2 years.
But I like her better now than back then, even though she was looking good back then too, but her personality wasnt likeable. As I remember of the series she was rather gloomy, boring and depressive.

But why did they change all that all of a sudden? Cant understand that, except maybe as a preparation for a next season.

Oh and should we know Lin? Cant remember her at all oO

As far as I remember, Lin wasn't even present in the original anime and is basically a manga character we only just now see animated. She's alright, although a little too stiff to be a bodyguard for a child... even though I do like it when she starts threatening people with her katanas.

Overall OVA... it was OK, although I was never a fan of these bath house/beach fan service episodes that really serve no purpose, especially in a kind of show like Kurenai. Are they that desperate to boost the sales?

Since this was packaged with the Manga, I guess it's to be expected that they would go more towards the Manga character designs. I didn't find it too troubling since Murasaki was still Murasaki, so it was still great. And that's also why the third segment was the best part of this OVA since she got showcased so much more in that part.

And Yuuno looks so different I would never have recognized her. And was her personality always like this? I remember her completely different.

This is what I was going to comment on. It seemed strange to me that they would choose the swimsuit chapter to be the focus of the OVA, and then simply change Yuuno to what she was in the manga; rather than keeping her old anime adaption.

Major changes with her? Well other than her personality, as Ossi pointed out, her entire physique *cough* now potrays the manga counterpart. It was basically like having a new character in the anime, but than again this fixed one of the the issues I had with the original series.
