This is a good anime why does the mother call her oldest son onichan?

To see these two character overcome everything to be together even the marriage and the work & the family grow.

Yeah I know, I was frustrated with Irie as well Grendak, but he comes around
I think that he has problems showing his true emotions, actually he even has problems identifying his emotions, like when he was jealous of Kotoko spending time with one of her classmates, the male nurse (I forget his name). He didn't even realize it was jealousy because he never felt that way before.
And he says later on that Kotoko completes him, he can do 90% of the things that Kotoko can't, but the 10% that she can do she does it amazingly well (ie. the emotional things )
I'm probably going to make a huge blog entry about this anime soon, I was really touched by the whole anime and it's become one of those that I hold close to my heart

I loved the series the 1st time around. Re-watching it now, and OMG Irie just makes me want to punch him. There are only three things that cause him to be nice to Kotoko; blackmail/family preasure, injury/illness, and when she shows signs of leaving him. Even with the proposal, it wasn't "I can't live without you" it was "you can't love anyone but me."

i just started watching this anime, and i like it. usually i dont like romantic (comedy) animes cuz it gets too overly romantic in their themes and its kinda annoying most of the times...but this one is ok. nicely balance with the romance and comedy. its more of a slice of life kinda. its pretty entertaining watching this anime. lol.

Why oh why did they put an episode 25! I just made me feel like I could expect another episode next week :'( I wish they could make another season.

I am extremely greateful for this extra episode though. They left the door wide open for a new season with the mysterious ojii-san, Naoki's grandparents and extended family from his mothers side. I love the idea of ojii-san telling Kotoko to come back when she had the baby.  Though this would have been better placed before the pregnancy episode. Naoki was continuing to be his wonderful self to Kotoko and when he said to her "You're the girl I chose after all" I simply could have died in peace and gone to heaven, big sigh~~ Why can't more guys be like this!

Thanks for the insight, dchaosblade, since there are so many gorgeous Jap names to pick from i didn't know why they had to pick that particular name

All in all one of my fave anime of all time! Recommend it to anybody!

This was a very enjoyable series to watch, and while I don't say this very often, I would gladly re-watch this series again in another year or so. What with all the ups and downs, twists and turns, and un-ending drama, this series did everything so well, right down to the ending. I've seen some pretty good shoujo anime in the past (Lovely Complex being the one I thought was the best I'd seen) but Itazura na Kiss goes beyond all other shoujo series, and I doubt I'll see another that was this good. I even would like to read the manga now, to see what they left out and changed from the 23 volume series, but I know it'd not only take a lot of time to read through all of it, but most of it's probably not even translated, as the manga remains unlicensed.

All I have to say is, please let the manga get licensed. I would gladly buy all the volumes if the manga is as good (or even better I suspect) as the anime was. I'm still astonished that a series this good was never licensed, but hopefully if the anime gets licensed one day (which I believe it will), then I can only hope the manga gets licensed as well.

This is definitely on my "Best Anime of 2008" list, some of which already include:

-Clannad
-True Tears
-Code Geass R2
-Toshokan Sensou
-Kurenai
