In the year of 2061, the net world was expected to become an ideal world connecting men’s consciousness, but it causes problem such as leakage and manipulation of individual memories. However, they depend on the net for exchange of information, and they cannot choose to leave the net.

Therefore, a new secure network is expected to build, and Metal shot for Meta Real Network appears. In order to keep information secret, Metal isolates individual memories by covering them by Bubble Shell, a foam-shaped organic cyber wall. People accept the system, and Metal is penetrating into their lives.

However, in its secure environment of Metal, people learn to unleash their instincts and explode them. Unleashed instincts push their consciousness out. The consciousness is drowning in the sea of information and exposed to desires. However, they are living in the real world where their acts are restricted by rules. It generates friction between the two worlds, and begins to cause strain in the world. The expert who investigates the cause of strain is called cyber diver.

This is the story of Haru Msamichi, a cyber diver who investigates incidents occur between metal and the real world.

luved this show!

it's been awhile since I've seen such beautiful animation.

a good mix of flowing fight scenes (wish there was MORE!) and just absolutely gorgeous characters. Cliche anime perfection, i know, but this style of drawing is what I love.

I'm sad that they climaxed with the relationship we've been waiting for

QUOTE (Barbobot @ Nov 30 2008, 11:13 PM)
Finally powered through the last 8 episodes of the series in the past 2 nights. Most of the series was unfortunately quite slow and confusing and possibly unnecessary. Minamo would be quite annoying at times, but aside from that the rest of the show was at least enjoyable. Not quite sure what happened at the end though. Haru is sent back by Kushima which I understand, but I have absolutely no clue why Haru appeared as his younger self at the very end and they never explained any of that.

Well, Kushima did say "Here's a part of the ocean's power" or something like that, kind of like balance in nature( or "nature's harmony") I guess, giving back what it took from him 50 years ago...

Also, I guess they HAD to do it, oterwise Nyamo's relationship w/ Haru would be too weird and gross

But I guess they could've done a bit better to connect all the episodes. To their credit, most of them were interesting stand-alones, unlike some of the "useless" eps in GITS that are outside of the main story.

Well, I've got to say this must be the most peculiar anime show I've ever seen. Not super-great, but very original. And I love how they tied all the seemingly random eps together at the very end.

Wah! Episode 14 is a recap show. And when they finished the recap, they showed a scene where Minamo goes diving in the Ocean, but instead of animating the the fishes and such, they used real underwater video. Gyp! That's just lazy.

But I'm actually grateful for once for a recap, because it made me realize that I had missed episode 10. Downloading-downloading-downloading!

I have to say that this show has been a lot lighter than I initially expected it to be. It seems to be more about how problems in the Metal effect the everyday lives of people typified by our little heroine Minamo. Which is fine, because I love spending time watching a girl who can go uber Kawaii when seeing a talking doggie...

(user posted image)

...or artfully dodge an out of control fighting android for a pair of sunglasses, or fearlessly investigate rumors of ghosts at her school. But it seems like the heavier issues might be coming up again. In the latest episode in which Minamo's Father saved the city from a huge Metal crash but was forced to fall on his sword and take a demotion to keep peoples trust in the system, there was a glimpse at something malevolent deep down at the bottom of the Metal. It's possible that they may go back to one-off stories but I'm hoping from this point on that Haru will dive into the deeper problems that should be the core of the show.

But if not, more Minamo can't be a bad thing.
