In the near future, probably in Japan, it is long after robots are come into practical use and not so long after human-type robots, or androids appeared.

Because of Robot Ethical Committee, people take it for granted that they should treat them as electronic appliances. However, because of their appearances being identical to ours except their having rings on their heads, some people are attracted by them too much. They are called as “Doll-Style” and it becomes a social problem.

Because Rikuo has been taught to treat them as such since he was a child, he doesn’t think of androids as human beings, and he uses them as useful tools. One day, he finds that strange words are being recorded in the activity log of Sammy, a home android.

Tracing her footprints with his friend Masaki, they arrive at a strange shop that puts up a slogan not to discriminate between human beings and androids.

It was very enjoyable, just finished watching it in a marathon.

I am a big fan if Isaac Asimov and his robotic tales. The three laws of robotics were his invention and it seems this anime was inspired by Asimovs stories too. And maybe thats why I liked it so much, suddenly I felt transported back into my childhood when I would read his tales about robots.

Eve no jikan is a fantastic series in every respect, except hat the ending didnt feel like an ending at all.

....I can't believe it's over.... already... sniff sniff! THIS SUCKS, such a great show. Not very many of my shows get a 10 out of 10, but this one does!!! Definitely and I would actually re-watch this short series too. AMAZING! Truly! Right now, all I know is that there is a compilation of this short series into a movie. I'm not sure when that'll be subbed. It came out in March.

I don't buy much Manga, nor Anime, but it's possible that this show would be one that I would consider most to buy!

I wanted to add another thing. I was seeing what else the director, Yasuhiro Yoshiura has done before and the few other works have been mostly short films, and all are given great ratings. I'm sure I'll probably end up watching his works. Not sure what he's currently working on now, but most recent news was Eve no Jikan, or Time of Eve.

"Did you enjoy your time of eve?"

Maybe there will be a romantic angle between robot or android and one of the female leads. Though robot/android isn't much of a looker... Can I get a *rim shot* please...ahh yeah I didn't think so either XD

I bet it would be interesting if there was some romance between the android and a female. Here an ilustrational picture:

Very much agree with you ^^. It's an excellent little series and easily available on crunchyroll to boot! Here's still hoping for a second season \o/

...WOW, the art is intriguing! A very unique show. I just watched the first episode and loved it. I can't believe I passed this show up before. ANN ratings are some of the best and yet I still missed this show, but that's changed thanks to Crunchy Roll! Well I hope the rest of the short series surprises me and amazes me too. I already wish that it was a long series.

I definitely recommend this for everyone. It's really cool and I'm surprised that the thread for this wasn't longer. Watch it! About Time of Eve (alt title) Let me know what you think if you haven't seen it before.

The three laws are from Asimov's books on robotics.

Other than that I think the director came up with the stories on his own.

Last episode has came out and it was good. It leaves a lot of possible openings and unanswered questions as to the future.

Wondering what books this series is based on besides I, Robot where you get the three laws and how they are interpreted in the the short stories?

What other series is similar to this in style and content?

5th episode is out at Crunchyroll. I continue to love this series.

This was another rather good episode. It deals with a couple of things involving the robots that I found interesting. The first being the arts. Now, due to their exact precision and their ability to be programmed to perform with exactness, it's no surprise that androids performing the piano can play pretty dang well. So well in fact, that Rikuo gets stunned by the performance... but more on that later. What I really found interesting, was that it meantioned painting, sculpting, and other various arts where imagination is required. You can't really program an android to be an artist. Sure, you can program it to mimic another art piece, but to create something of its own? That is actually good? That requires imagination. The same thing with sculpting. Not only are they performing the arts, but they (as exemplied by Sammy) actually like the arts. It could be argued whether Sammy just got accustomed to hearing Rikuo's piano playing or whether she actually got attached to the music... but regardless,  She was inspired enough to try to play the piece on her own, and she enjoyed it. Quite fascinating.

Now, the other main theme of this episode, with the catalyst being Shimei leaving Chie in the care of those in the cafe, is that of family bonding. Not only Shimei, who seems to have been designed and whose purpose is that of taking care of children, but also Nagi (I think that's the cafe's caretaker's name), Akiko, Sammy, and even Rina and Kouji seemed to be involved with entertaining Chie while her guardian was out. This focus was really intensified when Rikuo distanced himself by going upstairs. When he awoke, Sammy was playing the piano with everyone gathered around enjoying the music. They were like a family gathered together. There was a really neat shot I thought, where it went from a scene with everyone enjoying themselves around the piano to Rikuo standing, all alone, gazing on. Nagi slowly walks into view and talks to him about something, and then Sammy discovers that Rikuo had been watching her. Faced with a decision of whether to scold his robot or to join in on the family fun, Rikuo (once again shown in solitude) decides to give in and (perhaps out of his own pride to be able to play the piece better than Sammy could) starts playing for everyone.

So with this, they masterfully were able to resolve both of Rikuo's troubles with the androids with one fell swoop. Truly amazing stuff. Only one episode left.

How sad that there is only one episode left =(

Huh?? Episode 4 still has a week or so to go. So until then I doubt you'll see anymore new episodes released, let alone two episodes.

This wait really is killing me. I'm probably going to rewatch episodes 1-3 before watching 4 so my mind is fresh.
