The story starts in a big city in which live about 2.3 million people; it is so big that it occupies most of the western region of Tokyo. As 80% of the citizens are students, it is called an academic city. They have special curriculums that developes supernatural abilities, and the students are sorted into different levels, from level 0 to level 5, depending on their supernatural power.

The protagonist, Komijo Toma, is also a student but he is ranked level 0, and is close to dropping out of the school. In his right hand, there resides a special power, “Imagine Breaker”, that nullifies any other supernatural powers, and the power even nullifies the saving grace of God.

One day during the summer break, a Sister in white falls into his room from the air. The nun says that she is running away from the magical world, and names herself Index, or the Index of Prohibited Books. Although he is living in a city in which supernatural powers are taken for granted, he cannot help but suspect the fantastic story told by this girl who must have given him a false name. At that very moment, two wizards appear. Their target is the girl in white, Index.

hmm...I just noticed the episode updates point to this thread. There's already three pages in the Index II thread, should the series page be re-linked to that thread instead?

Mod Note: This should now be fixed, thanks for bringing it to my attention

Yare yare here we go again. I'm thrilled.

Like you folks said, it's just a matter of personal preference...

The entire reason I enjoy watching anime is that often things which are
out of the ordinary are presented in a way that changes perspectives,
makes me re-frame the way I look at the world.
I'm here for the -= W T F =- moments.

Slice of life stuff doesn't usually do that for me, that's all. (Working!! has it's wtf moments for sure though )

I thought that Railgun was going to be Index II, so I was disappointed.
Railgun could really stand on it's own and has it's merits.. but I really think Index is shōnen and Railgun is shōjo.

This is the first time I see you post, and I already love you.

Yay for a second season of Index, even though I was pretty critical of the first season. But it softened me up for Railgun, which I liked better than Index. I am thinking though that maybe I need to re-watch this series so that I can check to make sure I wasn't just being too quick to judge the series.

I really want there to be more explanation of some of the things they hinted at in the first season, so as long as they do that I should be happy with season 2! Too many cans of worms, not enough lids!!!

Yeah, that is the exact reason why I also prefer Index to Railgun, but then again it's kinda pointless to hold it against Railgun when it was clearly aimed to be a somewhat different show compared to Index which literary oozed with magical elements while the later focused on the more tech side of things. I realize it's a matter of preference, but compared to magic that whole ESP and "SCIENCE!!11!" is boring as hell, not to mention that typical slice-of-life plays a major part in Railgun, bringing nothing new to the table. But then again, Index kinda went down the drain after that Alchemist fight so... yeah.

So to sums it up...J.C.Staff is to blame for both shows' not so intersting parts?

For me I think it was that in every episode of Index they showed some cool arcane stuff and there was never any doubt that we were seeing into a supernatural world.  I mean they showed some wild stuff... Golems, wall eyeballs, pyro-wizards and wire-witches, you know.

In Railgun, it seemed very easy to forget that it wasn't just a regular school life anime.  I remember stretches of several episodes of Railgun where no ESP or magic was shown at all, unless you count static on Misaka's head.

Touma's first meeting with Mikoto after losing his memory was at the vending machine, and then Kuroko shows up and then left, then Misaka Imouto shows up, and Mikoto dragged her away in a hurry.

In any case the one episode for the Open House for Misaka's dorm made me wonder if Touma still lost his memory around that time or not.

That's one thing that bugs me too. I was wondering if the open house story was even part of the official 'history' from the original, cause in the manga it certainly imply that Touma's first meeting with Mikoto after losing his memory was at the vending machine, and then Kuroko shows up and then left, then Misaka Imouto shows up, and Mikoto dragged her away in a hurry.
