On the MyAnimeList board I found a link to a blog that reviewed the movie that says it completely failed to give a conclusion and is really nothing more than a glorified recap of the series.

It's a shame and yet unsurprising. Munto has always had such wonderful animation and all of that goes to waste for the 4th time it seems. *sighs*

He went to earth, supposedly to connect loose ends with Yumemi... I think the movie was supposed to give a final (complete) ending to this series; yet I haven't looked for the raws/subs for it yet.

No one has subbed the movie yet. The movie was a retelling (again) of the 2 Munto OVAs and the series with some additional footage. Whether or not the ending was cleared up or extended is unknown.

Finally got around to finishing the last three episodes of the series. Overall I'm very disappointed in this series, especially when I found out that this was only going to be 9 episodes. KyoAni has been lazy and that really ticked me off here for something I was expecting after the cliffhanger from 4 years ago. This was essentially saying OVA 3...and the fact that the movie is going to simply repeat the same 9 episodes with some extra footage doesn't help much either.

Going episode by episode, episode 7 was rather helpful where they finally explained a few bits of terminology that they never did, as well as the past of the Heavens. The only thing that bugged me was KyoAni made a few things more cheesy than needed.

Episode 8 was rather well done for the most part. The whole scene with Yumemi looking into the "mirror" was fantastic. However, the part that followed wasn't that great since it was predictable, but still dramatic and not bad considering I did want to see some more development between Yumemi and Munto. I also found it amusing that Tadashi was completely left behind on the hanging ferris wheel. I also didn't like Yumemi's reason when she saved Ichiko and Suzume. It sounded really weird and awkward during the moment.

Episode 9 was good up to the epilogue. The epilogue simply left a cliffhanger and the fact that things "reverted" back to normal all of a sudden was clearly rushed. Hopefully the movie will give a much better closure, though the DVD won't be coming until October at the earliest unfortunately.

If anything, Yumemi has become even more likeable, even more so than when I liked her as a character back in 2003 and 2005. I really like her hime outfit as well as her "battle" outfit in the final episode... Very nicely done....Anyone have more images? They seem rather scarce for this series, especially all those from the final ending. Also, does anyone have the final ending theme? I haven't checked the image album released last month.

Overall I give this a 8/10. I really didn't like that they smashed the two OVAs into the first 6 episodes. This series could have been much better had they not only made it into a 12 or 13 episode series, but also giving it a complete remake. The ending really felt like there was not enough closure. Hopefully the movie will completely close the series. Otherwise, KyoAni will continue to trash this series over and over. This is one of my favorite series from them and the fact that they keep toying with this series really hurts since the concept is fantastic, but they don't put enough effort into it unlike Haruhi or Clannad.

Well, this last episode was freaking epic (Yumemi's glare was awesome), but when Munto revealed his Sailor uniform fetish... well, it all went to hell. But honestly, one thing I always forget about this anime is how persistant the happenings in it really are. It's not like in most animes; crap hits the fan and people forget about it no matter what it was - here we really see how their actions really are world shaping and there are proofs of them visible in both worlds.

Looking forward to it's end... great anime in the end, although I wasn't that impressed in the beginning.

ugh... its good news and bad news, so basically we get a superb ending instead of a rushed one for this great series (yay) but we have to wait over a month maybe even more to see it since the TV airings themselves end today (omfg ) way to keep people on a rope

Edit: wow, wow, wow! so lame! they ended the arc well but left it so freaking open for the movie that the anticipation will kill me 2 months if not longer... ugh, well w/e

But it seems like KyoAni is stalling yet again. However, at least there is the chance that the series will now not end on a poor note like it did 4 years ago...and hopefully this theatrical finale finally brings everything to a close. For some reason, I don't understand why KyoAni continues to butcher this one series....honestly, it's the only other series I like from KyoAni aside from Haruhi and AIR.

Watched episode 6 finally and found that the character drawings and animation in this episode was superb. Better than most KyoAni works surprisingly. The only odd part was when Yumemi's face suddenly changes along with her eyes no longer shining. The big negative part, however, was for the first half of the episode....they recycled the EXACT same animation from the 2005 OVA....basically it looked like they simply slapped the episode together using that and the new and rather dull fight scenes. All it seems was KyoAni touched up here and there to make it look more like a recent work....As a result I'm becoming more disappointed by the episode.
Episode 6 covered the remainder of the second OVA with a few extra bits. As a result this worries me with 3 episodes left. I really hope the last 3 episodes creates a worthwhile story. It's really sad the series is only 9 episodes long Hopefully KyoAni doesn't fail...otherwise that's so far two in the books....Clannad ~After Story~ being the second at the moment (discounting Lucky Star).
