Sep 18 2010 01:38 AM Talk about a lacking conclusion. As for the whole "happily ever after" pretty sure it wasn't. Episode 12 was filler and the fact that episode 11 left the show hanging was really annoying. The story overall was not very unique even though they parodied various "fairy tales." It ended up being the typical tsundere romance show, which in the end, nothing was resolved.
Animation is rather sub-par coming from J.C. Staff. They can definitely do better than this (see Toradora! and Kaichou wa Maid-sama!). Too many scenes lacked fine details, especially on facial expressions. How could someone possibly be missing one eye for most of the series? At least show that the eye is closed or properly covered. If this was early 2000s I could understand it, but Ryoushi's facial features bothered me to no end throughout the series. Art was generally okay, but mostly due to Ookami looking a lot like Taiga from Toradora!. I found it a bit odd that Shirayuki seemed to be drawn completely out of context compared to everyone else though.
Seiyuus were mostly top-notch for this show, including Miyu Irino, Kanae Itou, Shizuka Itou, Rie Kugimiya, Mai Nakahara, Yui Horie, Satomi Arai, etc... Music was fairly decent. OP was done by May'n and had a nice rhythm to it. ED theme was done by the seiyuus of the show, which wasn't all that great. The video was funny, but the song was very dull. The narration by Satomi Arai (Kuroko Shirai from To Aru Kagaku no Railgun) was priceless from beginning to end.
Character development is about average. There really isn't much to say. We had a few episodes developing some of the members of the Otogi Bank but didn't really get through all of them either like Majolica and Alice. I was also hoping they would dwell more on Ryoushi and Ookami's pasts given that Ringo certainly got quite the development in the Shirayuki arc. In other words, the two main protagonists were left out of the loop.
I can't say I really enjoyed this show. Coming into the series I didn't have very high expectations even though it was a J.C. Staff work. The series basically peaked at around episodes 6 and 7 when Hitsujikai was introduced and after that the series simply faded until episode 10 where it fell flat shortly after. The show just have enough of a push to really make me want to watch it this season, not that many other recent shows have done so either.
Overall, long-story short (no pun intended), the show fell flat on its face. It began dull and ended dull. The rewatch value is close to none unless a sequel is made. Even if this is coming from J.C. Staff, given how the narration was put, a sequel is slim to none.
