I wanted my female Kenshin dammit!

If you ask me, this was more like a poor female version of Sengoku Basara. Every time Yukimura's name is mentioned made me think of a comparison between the Yukimura from Sengoku Basara and Yukimura from Hyakka Ryouran and how they are even remotely close to the same person in history.

Well with the way this played out it felt like it had more potential here, but was kind of short changed here. I mean the way it first opened it felt like it was a rip of Strike Witches at first. Later on it felt like our main guy pretty much wanted to get along with everyone, but ends up with the short end of the stick of being considered the standard perverted labeled lead for this series.

In any case seeing that the DVD/BluRay version is uncensored makes me feel that this was actually a ploy to bost sales... again. I did like the story premise and the artwork for the series, but it felt like everything was just rushed to the end. Still this season felt like we were shortchanged of possibly good series overall.

Overall Score: 6/10

It felt like Nia was underplayed since it felt like she only got what could be considered at least one episodes worth of screen time total for this series. Heck most of these other famous characters that the people might of been hoping for here didn't even show up. I wanted my female Kenshin dammit!

@Killer_ossi I see..... sorry for the misunderstanding then PS: I let one of my friends read the post as well and he understood it the same way as I. Sometimes things dont come across as intended.

@Kit I guess you are right, Nyan Koi was a harem anime as well and I enjoyed it.

My question is, what did you expect? It is a harem series after all!!!

I've seen harem shows succeed While not many, there are a handful out there that worked. It really comes down to the director's capability of balancing plot and fanservice. The latter of the two I believe should just be removed almost entirely

Lol? I dont know if you didnt really read my post or if you just didnt get what Ive wrote but if you did than those two questions are totally unnecessary since Ive answered them in my post already oO

To your first. Im quoting myself here:
QUOTE
"But sinc I knew it would be some kind of Harem show I didnt expect something big from it to begin with"

Its even the next sentence after the one you quoted from me. Maybe you shouldve read the rest of my post. But somehow you had to read the rest or else you couldnt ask your second question oO

About the second:
Come on. The thing you have quoted is the answer to your question. I dont get your post. Is this some kind of game your trying to play or do you wanna annoy me with asking question that are sooooooo obviously already answered that its almost impossible for someone to ask or what is it?
Where did I say that Im disappointed that Muneakira is a weakling? I already wrote that I was expecting it and that everyone else who thought it wouldnt be like that must be new to the world of anime.

As you can clearly see the disappointments I have are listed bellow which clearly indicates that Muneakira wasnt a disappointment.

I thought maybe my english was too bad so you couldnt understand but Ive gone through my post again and even let a friend read it and there is nothing wrong for you to misunderstand. Youre really leaving me with questionmarks here about your post.

I dont want to say it again, a show with great potetntial that wasnt made to its fullest.

My question is, what did you expect? It is a harem series after all!!!

And Muneakira beeing a total loser, I mean come on, do you really except something different from this kind of show? Then your new to anime.

If it was so predictable, why are you so disappointed? I find it strange you are so disappointed, if you expected that outcome as an experienced anime connoisieuir.

I dont want to say it again, a show with great potetntial that wasnt made to its fullest. But sinc I knew it would be some kind of Harem show I didnt expect something big from it to begin with and I must say I was positivley surprised since its better than I thougt. Especially the fact that only Senhime, Jyubei and that loli were into Muneakira instead of every girl was surprising.
And Muneakira beeing a total loser, I mean come on, do you really except something different from this kind of show? Then your new to anime.

Story was ok, at least it picked up a bit at the end but then became something completely strange. I must admit I didnt get the whole ending part and I dont even care. But its nice that there wasnt some "Love & Friendship ends everything" -ending and the enemy actually got her ass kicked.

Still there were a lot of disappointments like Nia only beeing there for a few eps (best women by far), Nia beeing in love with that toally useless Yoshihiko (damn how I hate him), the animation (was there really a point in the white animation at the end or the inkspots?) and some characters. Especially stupid-Jyubei and Kanetsugu (despite her beeing the favorite amongst the watchers as it sems) were really annoying. Damn how I hate useless and stupid people.

But despite that I found myself pretty entertained by this show, so I give it 6/10. And in my eyes it was better than Fortune Arterial.

What to make of this series and what will i remember of this series?
The first question is that it failed. It had some good parts with for example the hidden personality of Jubei and some of the antics of our big hammer weilding idiotic girl . The fanservice of the girls was okay with some nice uniforms etc. But for the rest it missed some real important necessaties. The other girls were boring. Muneakira was very bad as a main male character and felt completely reduntant. The story could have saved it all but it wasn't handled in a good way. It just jumped around and gave some real sudden unbelievable changes (for example Sen's brother part). Music as mentioned by Kit-Tsukasa was also not good. The animation was badly drawn and the blotches were annoying.
And that is also what i will remember of this series: stained and the writers don't caring about the mistakes.

In all a very bad series. I have to give it a 4 out of 10. The only points it gathered was from Jubei and some of the female characters but that is it.

And here I thought/keep hearing that Fortune Arterial is bad. While I have not finished Fortune Arterial, I can conclude that Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls is bad. Most of the series is spent on fillers and fanservice. In addition, while the black and white style for the for the latter of the final episode is an interesting touch, it was really hard to follow some of the sequences. Not to mention that the flow of the story in the finale was clearly rushed and barely finishing within the designated time. To be honest, they needed at least another episode or two to properly conclude and that could have easily been done by removing some of the earlier episodes.

In essence, Hyakka Ryouran had no proper conclusion and even if it did, there was no clear cut plot until about 2/3 of the way through the show. Even then it was rather blurry as we never really saw who Amakusa actually is.

The animation quality is unexpectedly poor. While the style is definitely a unique touch, it may very well be due to the ink blots that makes the animation seem cheap. In fact, coming from Arms I've seen better considering they did the recent Queen's Blade series. Other than that, Arms has never actually done anything spectacular overall so I guess I shouldn't be all that surprised either.

Music was pretty poor coming from Faylan (see Seikon no Qwaser, Regios, or Milky Holmes for better stuff). ED sequence is cute but the ED theme itself is not so spectacular as expected. Even with Minako Kotobuki on the team, Aoi Yuuki and Rie Kugimiya simply put more weight on the negative aspects.

Character development = 0. No question. Most of it was meaningless fanservice and the fact that there was no plot basically meant no character to develop anyways. Sen's and Muneakira's past together lacked development, and the heck who Jyuubei and Amakusa was also lacking.

Enjoyment really lied in Jyuubei's "non-master samurai" side since she is a complete airhead. While it tends to create the typical harem anime misunderstandings when Yukimura and Sen are around, I guess you could say it's Jyuubei's moe appeal that was made things interesting.

Overall, Muneakira was a worthless character. You could have easily done this show without the harem aspect since the final episode was really Muneakira yelling Jyuubei's name a hundred times and a bunch of "pew pew" flashy and power-up effects in black and white. To be honest, I had some hope at the end of the first episode with the awesome side of Jyuubei showing up, but that really was thrown to waste.

Preliminary Score: 6/10
Final Score: 4/10

Edit: Finished Fortune Arterial...Fortune Arterial is definitely better than this show.

Just watched ep 2 (waited for a decent release) and I must say that they are using far to much inkspots. Especially the ones who arent censoring anything are an annoyance.

Other than that it was nice. I really was surprised how bad ass Jyuubei was in the beginning. But later she was just as I thought she would be, a total ditz. But if she kisses her general again she probably will be gack to badass mode (Sekirei anyone?).

I thought that Muneakira was Senhimes brother since she looked at his picture while saying something about her brother oO
That way everything woudlve been easy to explain.

I like it that there is actual fighting in this series (didnt think it would be that way) and maybe they are actually going for a plot. Would be nice.
