Clumsy Arashiyama is a girl with a love for mysteries and a knack for getting into trouble. She works for an old lady’s lackluster maid café in a small shopping district. The cafe is largely unsuccessful in attracting customers aside from Sanada, a regular and one of Arashiyama's classmates (who has a secret crush on her). One day Arashiyama’s clever friend Tatsuno is invited to the café, and, upon seeing the miserable state of things (and Sanada, whom she has a secret crush on), decides to work there. Don’t miss the crazy antics of Arashiyama and friends, mismatched love stories, and all the hilarity that is created as a result, in Sore Machi.

What?!? The only thing the two shows have in common are studio and staff. Otherwise they could only be less similar if one was a shounen battle anime. I guess if you expected this show to be like SZS, then it's understandable that you are going to be disappointed in it, but that is just a really unfair comparison.

I have to agree with Accipiter on that one, SoreMachi is nothing like SZS. If anything I would say it is a little similar to Natsu no Arashi, because of the similar setting with the café and maid outfits... The show overall was OK, some episodes were more enjoyable than others.

Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru (or SoreMachi for short) is basically Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei centered around a maid theme.

Given how few responses there were regarding this show, I guess one could say that this show pretty much was as anticipated.

Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru (or SoreMachi for short) is basically Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei centered around a maid theme. With that said, this show falls short significantly when compared to Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. Considering that both shows have essentially the same staff behind it, they are considered comparable and thus it's not as if this is the first time doing this kind of show. For a SHAFT/Shinbou show, I had expected a bit more out of this despite a weak start. Unfortunately, the only good episode was really the last one. Ending strong with a decent bit of comedy along the way is never a bad thing but when the rest of the episodes were straight up boring, it's difficult to justify a higher rating.

Animation is pretty subpar for SHAFT. The show had quality less than that of Natsu no Arashi from last year, thus further hindering the advantages that this show has and thus deeming the show as a "C-Level" SHAFT work.

Music wise, the opening was only okay at best coming from Round Table and Maaya Sakamoto. The ED theme was hilarious lyrics wise but terrible rhythm wise. Though it may be a result of trying to bring out the mediocre/randomness theme of the show simultaneously. Now, seiyuu wise, for someone who voiced Maka from Soul Eater, I was very disappointed with Chiaki Omigawa's performance as Hotori. Hotori was straight up annoying and it really hurt my ears while watching this show. On the other hand, Kon's seiyuu is Rieka Yazawa, someone seemingly new to the industry and boy was her voice great. She really needs some more roles in the future. On another note, Josephine's seiyuu was hilarious all the way to the very end. Of course, they're not very funny if you don't get the jokes and the subs for this show weren't exactly the best ones around if you ask me.

Enjoyment? Not much. I chuckled every now and then, but for the most part, I was really bored with this show. Despite pulling manga chapters here and there, this show had no real head and tail. Occasionally, the show would do some nice tie-ins with previous episodes, but it failed to really bring out anything all that meaningful. While I haven't read the source material for this show, I find it unbelievable that the source material would be like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, and thus difficult to come to terms that this show could possibly be executed in a similar fashion in an anime adaptation. As I anticipated, however, this show did just that and failed miserably.

Overall, I wouldn't say this show had no real advantages, but it really doesn't have much rewatch value either. It's a decent laugh every now and then, but like Zetsubou Sensei, you need to understand the jokes to moderately enjoy SoreMachi, but even then it lacks anything that would really grab one's attention to continue sticking with the show for very long.

Preliminary Score: 6/10
Final Score: 6/10

To be honest, if it weren't for that amazing final episode, this show would be rotting right about now with a much lower rating.

I watched the whole series now. In the end it became better than expected. If you look past the sometimes seemingly loose scenes it really isn't a bad series. The first episodes are for getting to know them and if you keep the traits of the people in regard the second part is much more fun to watch.
So about the characters the only logical thing is to say that you need getting used to them. They are very nice. I didn't think i could get used to Arashiyama but it really happened..
To get to the music and voiceacting i'll go with AccipiterF1: it is very good. I can't add anything to that post.
The animation ain't that good sometimes but it is acceptable.
Hmm, what to make of the score. I can't say that it is better than other series in this season but certainly not the worst. To compare it with other similar series like Natsu no Arashi may be better. I think i'll give it a 7 out of 10 due to not having the best animation and having scenes which don't seem to connect.

Just wanted to give my final word on this series. I thought it was really good and in general very funny. It's kind of one of those polarizing SHAFT shows that if you don't get right off the bat, will never appeal to you. For this one it helps if you like the characters right out of the box, especially Hotori because she is such a spaz. If you can get that far, the rest is just pure enjoyment. They did a slight disservice to the story by jumping around in the Manga, but in some cases that actually built the story progression a little better. For example the last episode, which happened in the Manga order before several other episode stories, was placed extremely well to give the series a sense of finality. In other cases however jumping around made the storyline feel a bit too uneven and random. But the Manga is pretty random too, so I can't really call that too much of a fault. The only thing I was really upset about was that they didn't animate the onsen chapter, not because of the loss of fan service (OK, that too) but because it was extremely funny. My hope is that the omission of such a great chapter is a good sign for the chances of a second season. I don't know how popular this show was in Japan, but SHAFT has surprised me before with a second season of Natsu no Arashi and Maria+Holic, so my hopes are very much alive. Details...

The Animation was typical SHAFT running the gamut from amazingly detailed to phoned-in hack work. They tend to fix the latter for home video release so this one may be worth re-watching just on that basis alone.

The Voice acting was top-notch. I know there are Omigawa Chiaki haters out there, but they can suck it as far as I am concerned. The rest of the cast was brilliant as you should expect since Voice acting talent is something SHAFT never skimps on. Special note on the great find of newcomer Yazawa Rieka as Kon. I really look forward to hearing more from her in the future, especially if it's in a role where she gets to sing.

The Music was great. Maaya Sakamoto's Downtown made for an amazingly catchy OP. The Anime original ED Maids Sanjou and the insert song that went along with it from the concert episode are currently in heavy rotation on my playlist. The BGM was nice and always hit the mood appropriately.

I score Soremachi 8/10.

I think Kon's band could give Ho-kago Tea Time a run for their money  their performance was just awesome, even though it was such a weird mixture of instruments. It was probably the best moment of the series so far for me.
Along with that, I felt the last two episodes have improved a lot. The ping pong match was cool, but man Sanada-kun is such a perv for staring at her boobs like that. Tatsuno got all happy too that he was watching her....

I had this series on hold for a while. After watching another episode with not so much humor i decided to stop watching till after a few other series ended. If the last two episodes indeed have improved i hope that it raises my opinion of this series. Until now it barely was an average series for me.
So i'm going to catch up and see if this series really can rise to the occasion.

I find this show entertaining to watch. Yeah Hotori's voice can get on my nerves sometimes too. I do like Omigawa Chiaki as Maka (Soul Eater) and Jun (Natsu no Arashi), but here her voice can get irritating. It's probably because of the character she plays
I like the bits with Moriaki sensei, I can feel his endless frustration with Hotori lol. The part with the broken chair was funny, when he was trying to figure out which one he should sit in.
The part in episode 5 with Takeru was more cute to me than funny. I especially liked the old lady in the candy store, how she was being supportive of them on their little date

I did like the part of Arashiyama's brother. The only problem i had is that it was the only part which i found to be funny.
I don't know the manga so i can't connect any scene with the part in the manga. Maybe that is the problem with this series (for me at least). The series seems to be created around scenes which don't seem to connect. I miss a kind of major plot which runs through the scenes. If reading the manga gives that kind of lead you can get through the anime more easily?

I concur. I liked the second part with the brother but barely laughed at all on the first part and only had a few minor chuckles in ep4.

My main problem with the show is that it often isn't very funny. It's not bad but it's also nothing really good. It just....is, if that makes any sense. Also doesn't help that I'm not a fan of hotori's voice actor.

I still love it, though no one else seems interested so posting in this thread seemed futile.

Ep. 5. The second half which had Arashiyama's little brother Takeru's introduction to the insanity of women was some high-quality side-character development. I also loved Arashiyama's little sister's detective work.

They are jumping around the Manga story quite a bit.
