Second season coming. I hope we get more character development.

Oh Seven Arcs, you're just buying time for Sekirei season 3 now
To be honest, I'm actually quite pleased to hear this news. Dog Days, while an average adventure/fantasy show, was certainly above average relative to a few other titles we've been seeing as of late. Little fanservice and more plot driven, which is great for a show that looked more moe and seiyuu heavy than anything else. Granted that the seiyuu weight was indeed a major factor in this show's success, the premise was appealing and the conclusion left a lot of room for development. Not to mention that you have the Nanoha staff behind this show so things could potentially get even better.

If I were writing it, Cinque's rival cousin who we barely learned anything about in the first season other than that she can beat him would get pulled into the world as a champion for the Cats, or maybe another competing country. But I probably wouldn't want to add another country because there are already too many under-served characters.

Like I said before I hope that his friends do get dragged into the world he was in since it'll make things much more fun to watch here.

I mean his friends do need to know where he was while he was kind of MIA for most of the break.

Well I think it was becuase Leo relied way to heavilly on her readings which is why she was doing things on her own. Even Biscotti did the occasional star reading but also somehow managed to get Japanese TV at one point.

Pretty much I think they were trying to go with how highly accurate Leo was, but at the same time how she wanted to resolve everything on her own though.

So in other words she made it happen a bit sooner than anticapated. Although in doing so things got changed quite a bit though.

I think the main issue is that the mechanics of this "star reading" was not clearly defined and ended up being a plot device. Had they spelled it out more clearly by diving deeper on Leo's and Millhiore's past or how this world used such readings, I think that would have made the argument more convincing. The readings were briefly shown in each of Leo's flashbacks and dreams and it made it seem as if it was completely irrelevant to the story, which is likely the reason why episode 10 and 11 felt incredibly anti climatic after a decent suspense buildup in the previous episodes.

You know Kit if I had to guess this season could probablly be considered as the introductry season of the major cast members since it kind of implied that there is a good chance for a second season here. Besides it kind of gave a slight overview of the world our little hero entered into. Also, that "Death Note" prophsey was originally set for 30 days but it looked like she managed to make it progress by speeding up the timetables for it. So in other words she made it happen a bit sooner than anticapated. Although in doing so things got changed quite a bit though.

Dog Days is based off the work by the same author as Triangle Hearts and Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, Masaki Tsuzuki...or rather it's the other way around since both the manga and light novel began serialization in the same month the series aired.

To start with the negatives in this show, there are a lot of plot holes, and not just ordinary plot holes, but rather large and potentially contradictory ones. To name the two that really stood out: 1) the prophecy said that Cinque and Millhiore would die in 30 days, so unless the translation was incorrect, I'm pretty sure 30 days had not passed. It was pretty misleading, especially given that Cinque only had 16 days to stay. 2) In episode 10 when Cinque was attempting to chase the demon with Eclair, he somehow was able to summon weapons despite not having Paladoin with him (recall that Millhiore took both to duel with Leo). The story was also not very focused for the most part and ended up being very jumpy.

On the upside, the story, while straightforward, was not entirely bland and uninteresting. Sure the scenario has been used in a similar fashion like in Tsuzuki's previous works as well as other titles like Inukami, but the show presented itself in a simple manner illustrating that such a form of presentation still does work in this industry. The idea of a "cutesy no body gets killed war" idea is also a clever one if you ask me despite how silly it is.

Animation was good except in episode 11 where there was a huge dip in quality after spending the budget on the CG concert effects in the same episode. The special effects from the attacks could have been better done but for the purpose of this show I guess it was fine. Nothing special and typical Seven Arcs. There were, however, a bunch of far away shots, which I thought was cheap. Whether or not the budget for this show was low to begin with still doesn't give it an excuse for that many of those kind of shots.

Seiyuu was great for this show. From Cinque and Godwin to Ricotta and Millhiore the cast was great across the board. BGM was also quite solid for this show. The OP and ED were decent and when compared to rest of this past season, it was probably one of the better ones too.

Character development was shallow sadly. Probably the weakest part of the show where there were short flashbacks and glimpses of a few characters' pasts, but nothing substantial that really added much to the characters.

Enjoyment? It wasn't an exceptional show but likely on the better side of last season. Generally speaking, it was a good watch and it's hard to find simple shows nowadays.

Overall, a good watch. Not necessarily worth one's time nor a priority show, but if one has time, it's a good way to kill it.

Preliminary Score: 6/10
Final Score: 6/10 though it's more of a 6.5/10

In any case it makes me thing that if they do another season I'd like to see how Becky would react to what he went though all this time now.

I can agree with this. Becky being introduced into it would be very good.

If I had to sum up this series with one word...it would be "inoffensive."  As formulaic, basic, and overused the concepts and layout were, there is simply no way to be angry or frustrated with this show, because you knew coming in what you were getting and it delivered exactly that.  Ecchi but not excessive ecchi to the point where it killed it, some action but no consequence war that was fun and not stressful, a little drama and romance but not enough to suffocate everything else.  The series was simply fun to watch, and while pretty much everything other than the fake wars has been commonly used, it was mixed well enough to be enjoyable and not feel like a rehash of something else.

Vanilla can be a fantastic flavor when your other options have trended towards the extreme.  I think I'll end up marking this down as a 7/10.

I agree with this. It can however use a better bad guy as mentioned. It lacked the depth of having a really dangerous enemy. Due to this it felt like watching a kind of series like Pokemon (nobody ever gets hurt...just scratched or something like that) which can be a real turn off. So for me i'll just say 6.5 out of 10.
