I think, quite opposite from Kit, that the lack of an overriding plot was actually an improvement. Without having to waste time worrying about a plot that always felt cumbersome and tacked-on, the writers could focus on what really mattered. Cute and funny stuff! And this series delivered very well when it came to cute and funny stuff, and I felt, unlike Killer O, that the characters were very well and very evenly served. It's no use whining that your particular favorite characters didn't get enough screen time, when unlike the first season, so many more characters got adequate screen time. Again, a function of the stupid plot not getting in the way! (of course I have nothing to complain about on that note since my favorite characters, Noir, Eclair and Yukikaze were well featured).

The only thing that I would say was really disappointing was the music. What a waste of Horie Yui's talents to saddler her with the most bland and generic pop songs anyone could possibly come up with. I got 0 excitement from any of the concert sequence.

I would enjoy more seasons of the show, but what I would really like to see would be some OVA that feature the side characters. Like Génoise and Gaul have a little adventure, or Cinque, Nanami and Bekky in their own world.

So anyway.. It's fun. It's cute. It's 7/10!

Sadly season 2 of Dog Days did a lot of things wrong compared to the first season.
- Not enough Brioche. There was already not enough of her in the first season but now it was even less than back then (yes thats most important point).
- Almost only useless characters were introduced and wasted screentime on (Cou and her whole country, Adele, the "Demon King", Brioches brother).
- Not enough screentime for interesting new characters (Angie, why even mention she could get a promotion when it never gets mentioned again -.-), even Nanami and Rebecca didnt get much screentime.
- A lot of characters from the first season didnt really get any screentime (the generals, the right-hand-women, Gaul) or were completely downgraded (Eclair was only seen losing, Yuki was nothing more than breasts this season)
- Generally a far too huge cast for only 13 eps.
- Too much filler and not enough action (we only got 2 fights -Leo vs. Eclair and Nanami vs. Brioche- and they were very short)
- No plot, not even the slightest tiny bit

What it did right was not really that much.
- Brioche, Leo & Nanami were awesomely hot (when they had screentime).
- Yuki, Vert & Violet were hot (when they had screentime).

Well that more or less was it. You could mention the characterinteractions, but they were mostly just repeating the same stuff.

I really hope season 3 comes and gets better again, the potential defenitely is there.
Only 6/10 from me.

Dog Days' is the sequel to the surprising hit Dog Days in 2011. It continues to be an original work dependent on no source material. Dog Days' takes place three months after the events of Dog Days and now brings both Rebecca and Nanami to the party as previously promised. Furthermore, there is the introduction of a third "clan" led by the squirrel looking Couvert. Dog Days' premiered during the Summer 2012 anime season and was simulcasted by CrunchyRoll. So what does the former Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha staff have in store for us this time?

Well it turns out Dog Days' is not done by the Nanoha staff this time. In fact, the director has changed for this show and the results show. Granted that Junji Nishimura is a good director for many of his other works, Dog Days' is a series that constantly teased with potential "plot development." Its predecessor was known to be a shockingly decent series by mixing a fair amount of fluff with a somewhat compelling story. Unfortunately, Dog Days' takes away anything that previously compelled and keeps only the fluff. Sure, the series is still an easy watch as usual but it's also painful to see that it just wastes its time now. The series had the potential to become the next "Nanoha-like" franchise with a fairly interesting set of protagonists but decides to chuck that "cool" idea out the window and replace it with a full 13 episode set of the characters having fun in the weirdest ways possible. That said, the plot is effectively a waste of time. The battles aren't as interesting as before and there is no over-arching curse or prophecy that sets a somewhat darker tone on the series. This is "milking" the franchise at its finest if you ask me. The ending of the second series is expected given the prequel and the overall flow this time around. In essence, nothing of meaningful value really happened this time around. Though, it's almost as if this was a setup to a bigger story in the future...if there is another sequel that is.

Art in this show remains quite strong and the character designs seemed to have received a slight upgrade since season 1. Animation also remains outstanding for a Seven Arcs title. The movements are incredibly fluid and crisp, probably more than the first season even. Visuals remain colorful and Seven Arcs really seems to have dedicated their budget to this show. The animation definitely, at least, had a Nanoha movie like feel.

OP theme remains strong like the previous one, courteous of Nana Mizuki. The ED theme this time is also quite good by Yui Horie along with the various inserts by her. Background effects are above average and the top notch cute sound effects remain as well. Seiyuu is the same as before with no complaints from an impressive seiyuu lineup.

Enjoyment? The series started off quite good as classic Dog Days. However, as the series progressed, enjoyment certainly deteriorated as there was no over arching plot like the first season to really keep one hooked to the series.  Most episodes are fluffy one offs that are easily forgettable and don't really add much to the story. The battles are fun as usual but nowhere near as interesting as there is no major motive this time around, let alone anything at stake.

Overall, Dog Days' only managed to replicate half the success of Dog Days. It remains an easy watch but not something that could be recommended to large group like its predecessor. It seems that they need to bring back the Nanoha staff for this show to really shine.

Preliminary Score: 6/10
Final Score: 6/10

A few other notes:
If this series didn't have such solid animation and soundtrack, I'm pretty sure this show would have dropped in scoring significantly. The bulk of the score really is boosted by a strong score in animation and music

Long story short, can you say obligatory 3rd season?

Pretty much since it was to be kind of a casual second season without much of the girtty stuff they did first season kind of makes me wonder what they will do for the following seaosn now. Hopefully they will bring back the somewhat gritty moments instead fo the festival antics they pulled off for this season.

I'm not saying what they did was bad, but it ended up kind of a mixed bag of being decient to more or less trying to be obligatory for the fans at times with the fanservice.

Ah no problem, and besides I kind of know how you act around here so I know that you weren't being mean sprited.
Besides I like that from people who give things a chance then people just saying things and droping it by only watching a few minutes of the very first episode. Honestly I don't mind people complaining about things, but just give it a chance beofre your complaints are considered valid about things to me.

Anyways I have to say with how things ended up I have to say why am I getting this feeling that a 3rd season will happen of this. I mean I can see this happening two ways. These are hypotetical here so bear with me.

1.) While they are getting back to thier normal lives the three heros will be dragged back into the mix to save the world from some sort of major world ending kind of ordeal.

2.) Somehow some of the major girls from the series inadvertantly ended up in the three hero's world by a mere fluke and shenannigans ensue.

Oh and the second one is only vailid if I kind of called the ending here. I mean it is a possiblity.

Ah don't worry your wittle self over it my dear Aya-tan, because all I can say is at least you gave it an honest shot instead of dropping it a few epsidoes in.

Nah, I ain't worried my dear Woofie-san but being that some folks are super-sensitive with their animes and read more into what is just posted as an honest opinion, I thought it best to give you a heads up...just in case.
It was wonderfully animated with a very nice use of pretty colors that made it look all so dreamy and fantasy like. Had I been happy with just that...well, I would have but I wanted some meat with my taters and damn! Ne'er did it even come close.
I do thank you my dear Woofie-san for being so understanding of your Aya-tan...you are as adorable as ever!
Just for you!

Presonally I kind of liked it from the getgo since the characters were.... well how you say.... easy on the eyes. Granted they down have a deep personality but it looks like they are trying something with that this season though. Granted they added a few new characters into the mix which kind of side tracked the idea of doing anything major like they did in the last season though. Although, at least they are trying something new instead of the same old same old.

Granted the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," doesn't really apply to this series it would seem.... completely. Why I say that is because they did keep some ecchi themes invovled into the series, but at least it's not borderlining it like they do in certain series that have aired or are, or have just finished airing.
Although it does apply to the whole thing of them doing something completely different, but still using the same mechanic that made this series.

Well my dear Aya-tan at least you should be greatful that they didn't pull the same thing they did with Rosario x Vampire season 2 here. At least what they are trying to do... at least what I think they are doing,  is to introdcue the new cast along with Cinque's friends and just have you average summer vaction with good friends.

Although I'd be supprised if they give this series a hook for another season, but then again this is the same group that did the Nanoha series, so I'd should expect as much.

Although they haven't been over the top with the fanservice as of late, but it seems they do try to show off the girls appeal to the crowd along with the audience as well.

I tried to like it...I really did...but...well...
As a fan of S I, S II was saccharin ecchi tripe, that imo, FAILED, but that's just me. Some of the other shows I watched which were far less popular, proved to be far more entertaining than Dog Days S II ... go figure, since I was such a fan of season I. This one did not even merit my poking fun at it, I disliked it that much.
Let's see what the fall season stirs up...

somehow Im not because this season was far inferior to the first one.

I wholeheartedly agree with you on this moe blob of an anime fiasco, Ossi-san. Dog Days S II was/is banal mediocrity (in my humble opinion) and will be relegated to the dog house without me wasting anymore precious time watching should they throw another season three bone at the masses.
A moeblob is all it is and was without any good storytelling to speak of except animal human-like youngsters getting stripped of their clothing every time they lost or animal human-like boobs bouncing here and there and pantie shots up the wazoo while tails wag in one's face...4/10 only because it was pretty to look at.
It is like the boyfriend (season I) who was fun, colorful, witty...sometime after, he became the borefriend (season II), dull, flashy, silly...all fluff without any substance whatsoever. Ah well...
