Jan 12 2012 01:54 AM In my journey to revive threads from over a cour ago, R-15 is the next candidate in line. R-15 as the name implies involves a ton of fanservice.
For the most part, I found the story of R-15 to be unmemorable and obviously mostly filled with fanservice. The show follows a high school boy who is a genius novelist at writing eroge stories. Similarly, the other students at his school are geniuses at something. But putting the "others" aside Taketo requires something ecchi in order to gain inspiration and as the series progresses, he often required something more ecchi than the last. At the end of the day, the show boils down to a high school romantic comedy story as expected but it took a very roundabout way in telling it. The comedy was occasionally funny but it depends on how you viewed the way they were cracking it. I haven't seen the OVA at the time of writing, but I doubt it added anything substantial, especially since the finale episode claimed it was finished. I will say though that the eroge choir was unique and I feel bad for Utae.
Animation wise was pretty weak by AIC considering that they did Amagami SS and Nyan Koi! with some decent beauty. Also too many still shots. It felt more budget was spent on censoring than anything else. Art and character designs were fine for the most part though.
Music? I didn't find the OP particularly interesting. The ED on the other hand was cute and hilarious. Seiyuu cast wasn't really noteworthy either since I mostly recall screams throughout the series.
Enjoyment? Really nothing of value here. No rewatch value at all. Kind of the reason why I put off part of the series for so long.
Overall, this is really not worth one's time watching. If you're looking for an ecchi romantic comedy, there are plenty of other titles out there that does this better. The "story" is weak and lacks depth, not to mention that the show really could be summed up in about an hour or so rather than 12 full episodes.
Preliminary Score: 5/10
Final Score: 4/10
