Dr. Tenma is a Japanese man working in Germany. He has it all, incredible medical skill, a great job, a beautiful fiancee. He becomes disillusioned with the hospital politics though, when one day he's ordered to forgo operating on a critically injured man in favor of someone who was more famous. After this point, he decides he will do what he thinks is right, regardless of politics.

One day, a young boy and his younger sister were brought in. The boy had a bullet in his head, an operation that the doctor knows only he is capable of completing successfully. But... (there are more)

QUOTE (senpai-kun @ Apr 14 2007, 11:52 PM)
Oh man ploumid i was so out of the loop i didn't even no that the movie was confirmed

About that scene you mentioned That was a strong scene. The way Johan manipulated the orphan was tragic. The sad part was him going around asking the whores were they his mother. I had forgot about him being offered money to watch maybe i blocked that out. I still have quite aways to go in the marathon to get back to that scene though. I'll pay closer attention this time.

Well I'm gonna be all for watching the movie. Though i think the story is so well done. I would luv to see it's script get picked/bought and made into an american feature film and it's not often i am in favor of that because we might ruin it.

Well senpai, it`s exactly as you say it! "script get picked/bought and made into an american feature film" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0469469/ this is the link about the movie on IMDB
Well this episode and maybe all that had to do with the tall German Journalist were my favourites! I wanna see it again, for a third time...

A, Monster one of the best and really completed animes I ever watched!

The reason that it wasn`t so popular may perhaps be that it was directed towards an older audience and a second reason because the subbed episodes weren`t coming out as often as they should!

Watching it affected me very much it`s not only the well made story but the sentiments it would bring out of you. there is a scene that an orphan believes that his mom will come back for him and Johan(the monster) takes him to a location were whores are and  after pointing one of them tell him that she is his mother and more of that the client that whore is having gives the boy money to sit and watch himmaking sex with her...  I was in a shock on that scene but it really proved how Johan could play with the minds of others...

Anyways it`s a must-watch anime nevertheless! Ploumid borrows Senpai`s seal of approval and uses it!

Can`t wait for the movie next year I`m wondering who`s gonna play Tenma?(Let it be Takashi Kaneshiro)

A talk on TS the other day lead me to dust off the dvd collection and start a mini-monster marathon. So I come onto the board just run it through the search and i cannot believe how little attention this anime received here. Though i guess it is understandable since this came out in 2004. When it first came out fansub was still in diapers. Though it didn't finish until late in 2005.

Number of episodes: 74

Synopsis since nobody actually wrote one just in case someone gets interested...

Being a psychological-mystery-suspense type drama all rolled up into one. This anime dove deep into the mind of a mass murder. In the form of a young twin boy who one day is saved by the protagonist Dr. Tenma. Who fate played a cruel game on he himself. He had been questioning whether as a doctor should personal recognition to advance his research or saving people's lives come first. When he soul searches and decides to go against the medical directors wishes in order to save the boy twin things get really complicated after that. He loses his status as the up and coming top surgeon but on a grander scale he just saved the life of the boy who will become known as "monster" or the fact that he has a monster within him. In the process the twin boy Johan develops the twisted logic that Tenma is like a father figure the only one worthy of taking his life. So throughout the story Dr. Tenma and the "monster's" twin sister who by the way was the reason he was in the hospital with a bullet in his head...embark on trying to correct the mistake Tenma made by saving his life. This one kept me on the edge of my seat the whole ride truely a gem of an anime. Don't sleep on this anime.

Bwa-hahahaha. I'm doing a little contract work for Turner next month, and I keep wondering how I could sneak some Monster into the guys at the Cartoon Network.

This anime would be perfect for the adult watchers. I've watched the first 23 eps now, and it's an AMAZING drama. I actually wonder why work hasn't already started on a live action version.
