Let's give more info about this series for the people who don't know it:

Synopsis:
Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu is a story revolving around a secret war that has been going on below the public's eye since 1947 and a group of people involved in the war, either directly or indirectly. The main protagonist is a young high school student named Naoyuki Asaba who, on the last day of summer break, sneaks into the school at night to swim in secret. However, upon arrival at the pool, he meets the mysterious Kana Iriya, who is there for the same reason. However, she doesn't know how to swim, so Naoyuki offers to teach her how to swim. During this private lesson, a group of people show up in search of Kana and take her back to the nearby air force base where she is staying.

The next day, Naoyuki is surprised to find that Kana joins his class as the new term begins. Eventually, both of them take a liking to each other and Naoyuki even gets her to join the school newspaper club. Little does Naoyuki know that Kana is in fact an expert fighter pilot engaged in a war between humans and aliens that has been going on since the Kenneth Arnold incident on June 24, 1947. The whole world's fate rests in the hands of Kana Iriya and if she can ultimately hold off the invasion in the final battle.

Episodes: 6

Date: February 25, 2005 – July 29, 2005

Rewatch opinion:
After watching this again i must say that this is what can be called a missed chance of greatness. The story itself has enough potential to be used to the fullest. However it fails due to the limitation of 6 episodes which means that everything is rushed. Still the characters and scenes do their best to explain the feelings. The animation also is good with Iriya's fighter in flight as a strong point.
In all a pretty nice series which is a bit above average: 7 out of 10. Sad that it is only 6 episodes...if it was written for 12 episodes it could have been much more..maybe an ova about what happened after the last episode would have been nice..

He was in a double bind though, firstly the way it's portrayed she's the only one who can save the world. In trying to stop her he's in effect saying, forget about saving the world, let the world go to hell. But in that case she would die anyhow, along with everyone else.

The second thing is, she has decided she wants to fight in order to save him. It's true that she's been manipulated into this, so as to give her a motive to fight, but nevertheless her motives are pure even if those of the powers behind the scenes are not. For whatever reason she has fallen in love with him and is willing to die for him. Is her really entitled to stop her doing what she wants to do, when it gives her life a meaning? Especially when if she doesn't act the human race will be defeated?

In the end I think his response, to kill the person who manipulated her, is the only response that really makes sense. He doesn't impose on her, but he does make the person behind it pay the price. Really there was no way the story could have a happy outcome, on the one hand their love was being manipulated, on the other this was being done in order to save the world after she had lost the will to fight.

If that was the girl I loved fixen to fly off to her death, I would have definately tried to stop her, I wouldn't care if it was the wrong decision....I don't understand why she had to die though!!!!!! She could have just came back alive and made the ending much happier =(~

at long last lol finish this short series in the last ep i thought "looks like elfen lied and then saikano lol" 4/5

edit:what happen to iriya after that incident in ep 6? and btw is there any related genre like this except saikano (been there watch it)

To answer your question about what happened to Iriya: She died..Or so it seems, no she didn't make that sign either as a sign saying she's alive, Asaba made that. Man the ending was so sad, why didn't Asaba stop her, what a loser!!! I felt so bad for Iriya when Asaba told her to stop following him..he was a jerk and a loser for not stopping her...

Anyways I loved this anime..ending was sad tho =(

Yes, it's just a short series.

As for Iriya's behaviour, it seems she knows something the rest of them don't, namely that there is a war on, so she took the drill 100% seriously and couldn't believe that people weren't taking shelter. The fact that she has access to the bunker and knows stuff the civilian population don't tells us that she's somehow involved in this war herself.

I did the same thing jun, but i downloaded the batch torrent so i just haven't gotten around to watching the rest of it. Iriya is indeed an extremely cute girl, but I have no clue what is up with her. She runs out when the have the drill saying they will die and runs for the bunker. Then grabs a gun and gives it to the guy (can't remember his name ), but then has a seizure of some sort and he has to inject something into her heart. Things were getting a bit crazy.

Maybe I'll watch some more right now. It's 6:30am and I couldn't get to sleep at all so instead of just laying in bed trying to get to sleep I may as well give up and do something.

I personally prefer [Ayu] Fansubbing. [Any-Spork] has their subbing alittle advanced in wording. Its not so good as in flowing unlike Ayu which does a really good job so when you are reading the subs they flow. Also Ayu subbing has color wow haha =D. Any-Spork has their subbing done in white ehh kinda boring. Well yes I'd go for Ayu because the sentences flow nicely when I compared the two subbings.
