Kamikura Hiroki was expected to become an artist until he was in high school, but he gave up painting for some odd reason. Now, he is a college student of Nadeshiko Academy, and studying to become a teacher. He also works as a substitute director of the art club of the same academy's high school division.

One day, his cousin, Hosen Elise, visits him. Her art talent was appreciated by the academy, and she received a scholarship. She lost her parents when she was a child, and she closed her mind. It was Hiroki who opened her mind, and also found her talent. She cares that he quit painting, and she wants him to paint again.

Meanwhile, Kikyo Kiri, Hiroki's childhood friend, is appointed a physical education teacher of the high school. Kiri confessed her love to Horoki when they were in high school, but he refused her. Then, they haven't met for a long time. At first, they cannot get along well with each other, but gradually, they began to remember their young loves that couldn�t have succeeded. Seeing them, Elise realizes that she loves him very much.

WHAT? serious? damn I'm gunna have to go rewatch it now because it seems I missed that bit...
I do feel slightly sorry for Kiri, as she knew as soon as Hiroki said on the phone he was painting a picture for Elis. To Kiri this meant "Elis is the one who got Hiroki to draw again, so she wins" and when Hiroki was leaving on the train she said to Shie that she'd go back to being childhood friends again.

you do know she survived though right? or did you skip the credits? lol... i know i did the first time... anyway she is shown in the aftermath during the credits, it seems they managed to save her on the airplane and get her to a hospital. how they managed to pull it off i don't know but she is alive i thought you wanted her dead that's why i was like "how could you?!"

It's been at least a year since I saw it, but in the very last scene before the credit roll, it shows Tomoko on the plane, where she says "Goobye Elise. Goodbye friends at the hospital" and then her entire body goes limp, as if dead.

It was like, the most pointless death ever for such an awesome character and that made me even more angry than I was after seeing that (once again) the stupid male lead didn't pick the girl I wanted him to.

Tomoko better not have died or i'd pay the storywriters a visit and i'm not saying he SHOULD have end up with Elis but i did like her character more; which is why i wish they would have build that relationship up throughout the series instead of doing the "oops, just realized i love her" twist in the final episode

Meh, i liked Elis better than that other chick anyway; only problem I had was as smittles said, he changed girls at the drop of a hat which kind of gave the ending a "wtf?" feeling

btw Megiddo, cousin love is what made this anime even possible so what are you going on about

I just watched this anime in 3 days, I thought the anime was good, then it got to the ending.
That was a pretty quick change in events, to go from Kiri to Elis in the time it takes to paint a picture, weird huh.
The fact that they are cousins doesn't bother me, as marrying within cousins is legal in pretty much every country in the world. It's only illegal if its direct family (siblings, parents). But still, at what point did he realise he loves Elis? Bah...as much as I was routing for Elis and Hiroki at the beginning it was a very rushed way of going about it at the end. no " Sorry Kiri, I can't accept your feelings bla..bla..."
just a "BTW I r ditching you to do a painting...lol"

ending = crap, so story = crap, so the developpement = waste of time, so in the end = worst romance anime ever...
