There is a rumor. There exists a message board called "Jigoku (Hell) Tsushin" where one can access only at midnight. It is said that if one writes his grudge against someone, Jigoku Shojo appears and she takes the person to the Hell. It sounds just like a urban legend, but it is true.

Her name is Emma Ai. Usually, she is a quiet girl, but when she sympathizes with the grudge, she turns into Jikoku Shojo. It isn't mentioned in the rumor, but it is necessary to contract with her. For sending the target to the Hell, the client's soul will be also taken to the Hell after his death.

Wow. I just watched the first episode of the first season and must say, that this is the creepiest anime I think I have ever seen.

U know they say they disappear.......are there any remains left.....so are they really dead...or just going to Hell to endure some pain and suffering......are they able to come back to real living world from Hell like that "Gil" guy did....man, this is so fu*ked up........isn't it ?!?!?!!??!?!?

this is one of my favourite anime..
~~ lol i hope this jigoku shojou not exist in real life.. that make me scare a bit thinking if someone dislike me.. she/he gonna sent me to hell via this hell girl...

hey.. i'm just new here.. i love jigoku shoujo so much.. i just cant wait to watch the 2nd season.. though, i hope they have a different kind of twist in the story. not always that doll thing.. but still i love her.. i dont know what captured my attention about that little girl, but when im watching the series, i just cant help but feel lonely for her.. as if i can feel her sadness though.. and when i saw her cry in the painting during season 1, my eyes were beginning to water. sigh.. she's just so sad but lovable at the same time..

Watch the 2nd season, you'll find out the history of those 3 and why they decided to follow Ai.
