Komatsu Naka happens to sit next to Osaki Nana in the train for Tokyo. Komatsu Nana is going to meet her boyfriend, while Osaki Nana is going to Tokyo to become a musician. Because they happened to have same names, soon they become friends. Furthermore, when they’re looking for apartments, they meet again. Then, they began to live in the same room.

Komatsu Nana begins her new life in Tokyo being helped by her boyfriend, Shoji, and the friends from the same town, Junko and Kyosuke. On the other hand, Osaki Nana aims at the stage debut as a vocalist of a punk rock group, “Blast”, holding her love towards Ren, a guitarist of a popular band group, Trapnest.

At first glance, they are opposite; while Komatsu Nana is gentle and innocent, Osaki Nana keeps cool attitude for everything. However, their bond is getting tighter although sometimes they have quarrels.

No! no! no! no! no!!!! JAMAIIIII! ...PAGA(idiots!) How could they make such an ending?
It's simply stupid... Everything so far was so realistic, and then, they just give up! Ran out of inspiration? I'm really dissapointed!

Nana is not the kind of girl that would do that. I would never do that if i was Nana...
And i'm pretty similar. Well i would give up the baby or raise it with Nabu or Nana! Both the endings would've been fine, and so much more realistic! I've watched all the episodes in 2 days, i couln't quit, they were so fascinating, but in the same time so much like real people.. even more.. looking at Nana's eyes ..she really looked like a person and i feel like i've had a connection with her, that's how real she seemed. But i know she'd never give up like that, she had the power to cinvince Hachi of anything, and she knew her so well, she knew she wasn't happy. And Hachi is so not the kind to live in sorrow, not for her baby not for money, and not for a guy like that! She had much worse... so why settle for someone without a heart? Who shares no feelings, because he has none? It would be like death to her. As Nana said... she was dead, just didn't realise it. And eventhough she was so young.. and i was happy abut her realising her long time fantasy, Hachi is too easyly borred, she'd get the hang of life with Takumi and knew he would never be what she wants, just a child's dream, fantasy, nothing to be passinate about!
So it's impossible for me to believe it was anything but LAZY of them to put such a meaningless ending to such a beautiful, emotional series!

If only they didn't put the 5 years forwarded section in! I REALLY hope they will continue the right way, with Hachi changing her mind before the wedding and the foresight would have been just Hachi's imaginantion of how things might turn out!

The series didn't stop there. You can read the manga if you want to know what happens next. Too bad the manga is on hiatus since the author is sick, so we don't really know how it would end yet.

And personally I think Hachi choosing Takumi over Nabu and Nana is much more realistic. IIRC (haven't watch this series for a quite some time) Nabu have some financial problems to support the baby (his band only debuted recently, so they aren't famous yet). And why would Nana take care of the baby when there's a high chance the baby being Takumi's (whom she hates)?

Life doesn't always go the way you want it to. This is a good example for that.

I feel so depressed!!! I have never cried this much over an anime...I didnt even cry this much at my own mother's funeral! At the end of every episode u'd think one of the nana's died or something man! Gets me in tears every time. The ending song "A little pain" makes me so sad every time i hear it, even though i sing it to myself all the time (even dowloaded it!)...My heart bleeds for Nobu i cant get over it no matter how i look at it. If only he took the time to talk to cute Nana when she was crying on the bed when he found out that she was pregnant...all she had to do was explain the situation to him that's it!! Noooooo instead she just led there and cried giving Nobu the wrong impression. Then Takumi wouldnt have taken advantage of the situation and asked her to marry him and none of this would have happen. I cant stop thinking and feeling sad about this no matter what i do. I want Nobu to be with Nana so BADLY. Then and only then i will get over this. I dont even really care anymore what happens to the two nanas together because i beleive that they will b ok

i just wish they would start the new season already!!!!there has to be one because they CANNOT end it like that. Impossible! Cliff hanger!! To many unresolved conflicts.

where exactly in the manga does the story follow from episode 46/47 ? what chapter or/and volume?

I feel kinda pissed when I read everywhere that they call this a shoujo manga, its just a drama. I'm male 22 and I have a best friend I made around my 16s, same feeling like the series, thats why I got so hooked, I could totally relate to how Nana felt about Hachi not sending phone texts since something similar happened to me, it sucks how distance makes one doubt his/her own ties with ppl, specially these days w e-mails chatrooms cellphones etc.

BTW totally unrelated but wth is with the dictionary in the posting text correction? Nana is not underlined in red but manga is ? how old is this U is Nana supposed to mean something like nanny ? lol

This thread has been dead for 9+ months if you wish to continue talking about the manga you may want to go to the manga section of the board and find the NANA topic there or post in the General Manga Discussion thread in that section (if such a thing exists). You are more likely to get people to respond there since this anime ended quite a while ago.

Everything in the manga and anime are not the same manga moving so much faster then the anime. This is my absolute favorite anime/Mana and I am up to vol 12 very good and very adult in both, Just so excellent all around..

This series left me with mixed feelings. I loved the characters and it had some nice dramatic moments. It all felt a bit contrived at times though. This is about people who basically have all the ingredients for a happy and fulfilled life: youth, looks, interesting and supportive friends, blistering relationships, bright career opportunities and great sex to boot. Yet they all dwell on the stuff that does not go well, like lost loves or a neglectful parent they don't have any dealings with anymore anyway. Sure, there is hardship in most people's lives, but the point is that it is okay as long as it gets compensated with good stuff... and these people have a LOT of good stuff going on for them.

Also the relationship between the two Nanas left me puzzled. I would have understood their bond if they had some sort of love affair while they lived together, but now it's just two good friends who go their separate ways. This makes Nanas response to "losing Hatchi" a bit overdone in my eyes.

And there seems to be a habit to let all great anime series end in an unfulfilling way. I feel that this is obviously a set up for a new series, but I wonder if there ever will be one.

I really loved the series though, believe me I just like to nitpick...

I am so glad to hear the manga continues past what the anime ended at! I felt like I had been punched in the gut at the end of the last episode. I literally felt a woozy, nauseous feeling

I just assumed that was the end because I had a similar experience when I first read Paradise Kiss. Ai Yazawa just has a way of making emotionally charged characters that are real and that the reader can become invested in. Then she resolves the issues just like real life....it is a powerful tool but it leaves me frustrated, sad and wanting more. I really hope they do a season two, I love these characters and want to know what happens!

Hm maybe they just wait till the Manga end´s before they make a 2nd season. I mean the first season contained the story from No 1 to 12, so maybe the manga goes till No 24 or they wait till 24 so they can make another 47 episodes long season who knows. Time will show, right
And the end ... to be honest I can live more with this kind of end with the hope of a 2nd season than with that what Mad House did with the Claymore-series

I couldn't help myself, I read your spoiler Lethos, hmm lots of interesting things seem to happen... I've got to get my hands on the manga!
Even if the anime followed the manga to a tee, I still find the ending upsetting... because we don't know when the second season will begin.. so we're left wondering "wtf?!" for god knows how long.. it was just a bad cutoff point in my opinion... but whatever. It happened, I just have to accept it... and read the manga to sastify my curiousity on what the heck happened to Nana.
