It is in the 58th year of Showa. The summer starts earlier than usual. In Jun, they’re enjoying the sound of cicada at noon and buzz of higurashi(*) in the evening.

Here, Hanamizawa Village, which locates on the rim of XX prefecture, is a small village whose popularion is less than 2,000. However, "it" repeats every year.

Hinamizawa Village Consecutive Unnatural Murders (1979 ~ 1983).

Every year, on the fixed day of Jun, one person dies and one person disappears. It is a death chain from the fight related to a big dam construction plan. The incident that was hidden in the middle of Showa revives.

It is whether a plot or an accident...or a curse?

The person who’s supposed to be there doesn’t exist.
The person who must not be there does exit.
The person whom you met last night doesn’t exit.
The person who is there doesn’t live.

The tragedy is inevitable? You can do nothing but succumb to it?

However, do not submit yourself to the tragedy.
It is only you that can face it.

(*) The higurashi is a kind of cicada. "Higurashi" literary means what makes it darker. It is named Higurashi because it begins to buzz when it gets dark. It appears earlier than other cicada, and it begins to buzz in Jun.

(**) This is based on a dojin (privately published) game by 07th expansion. The game is categorized into visual novel type game such as Kanon, Tsukihime, To Heart, etc. However, this game is one-way story while the story of a typical visual novel diverges by the player's choices.

I think that Keichi was affected by the Hinamizawa syndrome or illness, and thats why his hallucinations were so strong... he was so paranoid and became mad! If you recall he scratched his throat out until he died... which is the final stage I think

I think it's more likely for that pink haired chick to have a star tattoo than Satoshi.. just going by her personality and sense of style

OK I have just read through all 41 pages and the one thing I have to say is that if Keichi was hallucinating alll the bad stuff with Rena and Mion, he was doing one HELL of alot of halucinating. I fond it hard to believe ou can hallucinate that, much and still function in daily life. The people talking to him at some point have to just say, "huh" because the conversation wouldn't follow.

One other thing is I also have always that that bady found in the river was Satoshi and he just happened to have a star tattoo or was given one. But did that Pink haired lady that Rena killed really have a star tattoo?? I just finished watching the series and I seriously don't recall seeing and star tattoo on her.

Sai-chan, you could take your sweet time to read previous post and animesuki spoiler .... you will get lot from there. Beside your question has been repeat. Just find and read .... maybe it too long and major spoiler if you never think to question it.

But if you watch the whole season one and mange to catch season two .... you already grasp the story ..... anyway welcome to twisted world and mind figure of Higu ... have fun from figure out the story ....

Maybe this will get explained later on, but I have the feeling that I just failed to miss something. Apparently everyone is upset with the all members of the Houjou family. If that is the case, why does anyone care that Satoshi killed his Aunt. At the point in the anime I'm at now, I think it could be possible that Satoshi didn't kill his Aunt, but I'm fairly sure he did. And if that's the case, again, why would anyone in that village care that he killed his aunt?

Secondly, why did Rika attempt to kill Shion(I assume she thought she was Mion), when she went to her house? If this gets explained later you don't need to answer this one.

Third, for what reason did Shion want to kill Kei for?

The dvd cover is a little too dark for my tastes.. but I suppose it suits the anime This is definitly a series that I would like to own, I'm going to look for it when I go home to Canada.

1st DVD is out in US. I'm surprised by the ratings it got. Apparently, the sub and dubs both got the same rating, and a very good one too If that's the case I might very well buy it, especially since its Geneon since they tend to do many things well unlike some companies Anyways, this is the first good review from ANN in a while and they're usually quite accurate.

In a sense I kinda like the design of the box cover.

well let us first clear a thing guys,does the virus coming out from the marsh of the village really exists or is simply pure imagination??I'am talking about the virus that was discovred by the blond woman who was with the photograph.It's in the last chapter (the Atonement chapter)she gave out her notebook to Rena explaining here discovries.If the virus that was supposedly discovred by the blond woman do exist,than the maggots exist as well and it's naturel for the ones infected by it to rip they're throat as this virus make you berzerk...Take a look guys on the second or third part of last chapter "Atonement",when the policeman took one of the few notebook that were owned by the blond woman and read it,he found out that notes of that woman where out of the ordinary (more precise occulte and bulls*it,sorry for the word)so when Rena took the notebook from the woman and before treading it she was already desespereted and panicked,so when she readed it,she believed all in it out of panick and didn't think rationelly....Maybe the virus existed as it would explain a lot of things,or maybe it didn't....As for now the big mystery is the Big organization behind all of the murders and tragedies of the Hinamizawa village..........Or maybe the supposedly big organization pulling the strings behind the scene didn't existe att all and was imagined out of fear....my head hurts ...One more thing,the Maggoots existence isn't sure coz if the virus that I talked about above really existed than the disease caused by it can make berzerk thus make you hallucinate about these maggots....

Barbobot, I think that is a good explanation... I really hope they clear that up in the next season. Seeing maggots and ripping your throat out is a gruesome way to die
