One bloody night fourteen years ago, House Montague staged a coup against the Capulets, the rulers of the floating city of Neo Verona. Despite their best efforts to exterminate the Capulet line, one young girl, Juliet, managed to survive along with a handful of family retainers.

Since that night, Juliet has lived her life masquerading as a man, hidden away from the Montagues by the playwright William Shakespeare. Only two years-old at the time of the coup, she has since been raised in ignorance of her heritage. All this is done to protect her from House Montague which continues to search for her to this day.

On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, the day when all secrets are to be revealed to her, Fate takes a hand and crosses her path with that of Romeo, heir of House Montague.

So begins this timeless tale of love and tragedy.

at least the quality increase of re rendering videos to 1080p rocks! whether it's new or old. and btw by 'new' is definitely relative depending on your reference point. comparing it to 1990's series, id still call that new. as long as the hd version looks better than the original. space and download time is not an issue for me. i prefer quality.

downloading high def is only good if a series has been remastered or it is its native resolution. Even when a series has been remastered, some don't look very good as they're mostly nasty upscales from the 4:3 era. In reality, anything not its native resolution just becomes a waste of space if you ask me.

in my case it's different. im watching at a 52" hd tv. yes i know all about mastering, and other things about resolution. but the difference is significant when your playing a video rendered on small resolutions on a large screen tv compared to anything rendered at least HD. that's because the tv's doing all the extra process to scale the video. and in some cases, it doesnt scale at all. and anyways this series is new, and the 1080p i just downloaded really rocks!

anyone know where the .srt's are for the entire series? i'm new to anime, and i mistakenly downloaded the wrong version. it has a (fin) symbol in the file name, and its subtitles aren't english. i want to watch the original japanese audio version, but i want the english sub. can anyone tell me where the srt's are for episodes 1 to 24? thanks!

funimation actually does have it available to watch for free in sub and dub
thats your best bet
i even started watching it recently on there

i think downloading the high def version is also a good idea. what i have only clocked at 704x936. i think i found one with hd1080, and i'm quite sure it has eng subs this time. anyway, thanks again, for the tip.

Fin symbol ? Finish subs ??

This anime has English subs but I can not help you any further because Romeo x Juliet has been licensed by Funimation. Do not request links for licensed anime in this forum.

Do some google searches, you will get your answer soon enough.

Thanks for the heads up, Barbo-san! I have always loved and admired The Barb and well, one reason for not watching this series was becasue of the language barrier and the losing of his "meaning." So I will check out the dubbed version instead, and enjoy the richness of words and their power, all over again!

Not as much of a bump as I thought it would be. Well I finally got a chance to check out the english dub of Romeo x Juliet after buying the first half season boxset today. Been wanting to check it out for a while after hearing the dub would incorporate some of Shakespeare's lines as well as iambic pentameter. And I must say after watching the first 2 episodes that it sounds great. That along with the incorporation of Early Modern English in the script gives the whole show a much more Shakespearean feel that it just couldn't truly achieve in japanese. Unfortunately the show itself tends to lag in the middle of it and just goes on for a bit longer than it really needs but that's a problem completely separate from the dub.

All the main voices sound like they work very well, for the first 2 episodes at least. I'm liking Brina Palencia as Juliet and Chris Burnett is doing a good job as Romeo. Colleen Clinkenbeard is possibly my favorite as Cordelia, but I just generally like her in most of the shows I've heard from her.

So in other words, go try the dub if you liked this show or like Shakespeare (which I would imagine if you like Shakespeare you would have at least checked out this show when it aired).
