Woot Emma's back! I had forgotten all about this anime. After the last episode of the first season I though that it was just dropped by fan subbers oe something. Why'd it take so long for season 2 to come out.

So this Emma is like the Jane Austin novel? That would be interesting because I really love her novels and I`ve seen anything that has ever come up at the movies or series on the tv!

I`ll trust the Captain`s persistance on it and d/load it!
I don't think so... From JCD's descriptions, it sounds more like the animation of what was a very popular soap-opera style television series called "Upstairs Downstairs"... However, it sounds like a very "quaint-like" Japanese style Victorian period piece! Definitely will give it a second look!

Ploumid, also keep in mind that Jane Austen was a Regency writer (early 1700s when English people had a very fat, and self-indulgent regent cuz daddy the king was a loony!) The Victorian age is around the mid-19th century, when fatso's cousin, Victoria, suceeded to the throne at age 16?

This is how the anime and manga became popular: -

The manga has a cult following in Japan, Europe and North America, even going as far as opening an Emma-inspired and themed maid café in Shibuya[1]. Its popularity has sparked an interest in English maid cosplay, even going as far as having the official Emma anime website selling Emma's "costume" for ¥45 000. [2]

i've seen this anime but i didn't finish it =/ i found it too predictable and kinda boring altho it the story is quite nicely done... this story line has been used over and over in many turn of the century novels (ie: Jane Austin) and i can see it's appeal to the japanese audiance but it just didn't do it for me... its really cliched (well i feel it is =/) and after studying so many simliar novels i just can't get into the whole feel of it... a nice one to watch - when you haven't read/studied many turn of the century novels.

I saw like one episode in english dub on Animax when I went abroad last year. Hmmm, don't know much about this anime...it has 12 episodes for the first season and aired in Japan at 2005. On Tokyosho...there's a torrent for the movie..which is in preparations for a second season. The second season is said to be aired in Spring 2007 and the name for the second season is called "Emma: A Victorian Romance Second Act". Apparently this anime was quite popular in Japan but really had no real idea of what it was............oh yeah here's the basic plot (source from ANN): -

QUOTE
Plot Summary: In late 19th century London, William Jones, a member of the gentry, meets and falls in love with Emma, and she with him. This chance meeting overturns both their lives - for Emma is a maid, and the barriers of class and wealth stand between them.

Haven't watched it but it seems to be intriguing.....it kinda reminds me of Ai Yori Aoshi a bit.
