One day, a boy named Simon happens to find a small, shiny drill whilst digging to expand the village. At the same time, Kamina, a guy who believes that there is another land above the village, persuades a gangster to break through the ceiling in order to leave the cavern. Suddenly, an earthquake occurs and the ceiling collapses, followed by a... (there are more)

Could TTGL had some sort of inspiration from this manga, The Sun's Soldier Poka Poka, by Kōji Kumeta, the creator of the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei series.

Here's it WIKI LINK ----> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiy%C5%8D_no_Senshi_Poka_Poka

Plot: -

Riku Horikawa loves to dig, he loves it so much that he's earned the nickname "the Man with the Shovel of God". Most of Riku's discoveries wind up in his father's antique shop, until he finds a mysterious bracelet that leads him on an adventure with a boomerang wielding robotic soldier named Poka Poka.

I can understand you taking points off for Kamina's death Ossi. I think I can speak for a lot of ppl when I say that it was one of the saddest deaths ever in an anime. BUT I accept that it had to happen, otherwise Simon would never grow as a character, to be the leader he needed to be. (it was really hard to accept.... lol) Though I think it's unfair that you take points off for Yoko's space costume I don't think she had a choice in the matter... I also think her 2nd costume was kinda...... meh
And about Code Geass, I was talking about the 2nd season. I loved the first, and I did like the 2nd in the end, but some parts were kinda annoying for me. I also felt that Fukuyama Jun and Wakamato Norio were having a contest to see who could have a louder booming voice.

For me Gurren-Lagann gets only a 7/10. The big negative points where Kaminas Death, Yokos Space Outfit (-.-) and in the end it was way too ridiculous for me.
It was a fun ride, even something special but nothing epic.

@julezia: Of course Code Geass is in there, best anime ever after One Piece.

Clannad AS was a beautiful story and it touched my heart (even though I am a big Nagisa hater). Buuuuut it can't even be compared with Gurren-Lagann IMO, which was just EPIC throughout. I gave Clannad AS a 9/10 I think, because it did make me cry and it was beautifully executed, but Gurren-Lagann is 10/10, pure masterpiece
There is going to be an animation festival here in Budapest next week, I'm going to see the Gurren-Lagann movie on the big screen, woohoo!
PS. I notice Code Geass r2 is high up on the list too. I am a fan of Code Geass, but I don't think the 2nd season was better... I'm watching it right now and find it to be ridiculous at times. Still like it though lol

Ah, those stats are skewed. Not only is the rating based on a smaller sample size, AS is insulated a bit from bad ratings because the people who didn't like Clannad didn't bother to watch the follow up. 46,000 rated the first series while only about 30,000 the second and if you look at the stats you can clearly see a difference in the percentage of lower votes.

WOW......this one is clearly one of the BEST animes of ALL TIME and how the hell did Clannad ~After Story~ clinch the No. 1 spot at MAL for best TV series of all time: -

I wish I could give this series the highest possible.....this gets a 100%....10/10 out of me.........a TRULY EPIC MASTERPIECE!!!

I was quite disappointed when I first saw that. For the longest time Gurren-Lagann was #1 being the only anime with a score of over 9.0. Then Clannad AS comes in and usurps it. That just shouldn't be especially since Clannad AS was pretty crappy for the first half of the season whereas Gurren-Lagann was top notch the whole way through (well except for maybe episode 4).

I can't believe I actually didn't watch it after a couple of episodes.....I remember it being a bit too crazy and I think my initial reason as to why I wasn't watching it as it was airing was because the early releases of the video quality were awful and they kinda took too long.....I guess I stopped watching it because the quality was too bad as a viewing experience.....I think I was kinda right and wrong at the same time, as I was able to marathon the series in better quality but again I missed the fun of being able to discuss each episode per week with you guys.

Anyways, I started watching TTGL last night and watched up to episode 10 and about half of episode 11. I got up early and continued my marathon of TTGL at about 9:15am and finished it before 5:00pm.

This series was really really special and I don't have any words that I can describe this series apart from that every minute and every second of TTGL was TENGEN TOPPA-ly EPIC!!!!!! XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

The ending was bittersweet and I'm grateful for the epilogue being a 20 year time skip that revealed most of the cast's fates.......with Simon being a helping wanderer and it was funny to see him say "Nah, I guess I'm nobody.". I like the epilogue as it tied most of the loose ends and we weren't left with questions like did Yoko and Simon hook up and stuff because those kind od stuff just makes me go CRAZZZZZZZYYYYYYYY!! Yoko becoming a principal.....she never loved again like she did Kamina (or Kittan but Kamina more of course.....first love is quite a large bench to jump over).....I guess it was so that she can treasure them and her memories with them too. The same goes for Simon to a certain extent.....hence, the bittersweet ending.

WOW......this one is clearly one of the BEST animes of ALL TIME and how the hell did Clannad ~After Story~ clinch the No. 1 spot at MAL for best TV series of all time: -

QUOTE (Teammoney @ Jan 14 2009, 03:37 AM) After hearing about this anime being great so many times for several months, I wanted to watch it but never got to it. I was bored this week and finally pushed myself to download it and watched it 2 days ago and just finished it. WOW! and INCREDIBLE! is all I have to say.

This is one of the best series I have ever watched. There is so much to say and I don't want to spend a long time talking about what I liked about the series. I pretty much loved every minute of it and everything about it from characters to music. Simon and Gurren Lagann are such BAMF! This anime I will definitely watch over and over again. I wish I could watch more and I'm glad that they are coming out with movies for it. It makes me remember how great it was. Definitely a 10/10.
Aye no movies, just a remake movie and parallel works which is already out.

Oh, my bad, didn't read the article on ANN thoroughly while skimming. You're right; it's just a remake. But it doesn't matter, I wouldn't mind watching it.
