Nov 14 2007 01:59 AM So that's the end to a mediocre mecha series. It was rather fun while it lasted. It was certainly entertaining at parts and Iori would just make me smile all the time due to her attitude and stubborness
. Now would I recommend this to anybody I was talking to? Most likely not. Probably wouldn't even bring it up.
Since it is made by the same group of people who did Mai Hime and Mai Otome, it's kinda hard not to compare this show to both of those series. Now in both of those shows there was a major plot point that greatly affected everything in the rest of the show. For Mai Hime it was
the death of Takumi (did not see that one coming) and in Mai Otome it was
The take over of Windbloom . It seems they tried to keep to that same formula of mid-plot major event, but it just didn't have as much impact imo when Yukiho turned around and betrayed Mondenkind and Haruko. It sure was a surprise to me and a twist I like, but it just didn't have the same dramatic effect. I'm at least happy that Yukiho didn't at the end come back to Mondenkind (at least by her own will) and wanted to continue to be loyal to Chihiro.
And the story as a whole just wasn't all that compelling. We never really even find out how the idols were created, do we? and as a part of that why the 5 cores coming together brings about Aulyn? And the main character they gave us, Haruka, ended up getting quite annoying with her always goody-goody style of always wanting to be with Imber. I guess that sounds kinda weird the way I described it, but I couldn't really think of another way. I ended up just getting really tired of that. Iori was a much more entertaining character to follow imo. But I guess considering that the anime is based on a game about idols (not the mechanical kind, but the flesh and blood and pop-style kind) they did an alright job of coming up with a completely original concept for the story.
Now I'm gonna go erase this series from my hdd cause I will have no reason to ever watch this series again.
Note: little annoyance with the subbing that they continued to sub Aulyn as "Auryn", despite the fact that right in the episode it spells it as "Aulyn" with an l and it's clearly visible. Not like something you have to focus in on. Nothing big, but something I just kept thinking about while watching.
