I keep wondering why Hagino made such a fuss about that silly school play. Sure, it makes for a nice bittersweet scene when Mari still clutches the script 30 years later, but Hagino could have better tried to save herself, Mari and perhaps a great part of the school instead of wasting all her time remembering her lines. At least she could have tried to spend some more quality time with the girl she loves. |
I was thinking that too. I found it hard to sit though the play parts when all this other interesting, end of the world stuff is going on. I kept reminding myself that it's all a matter of perspective, what we consider important...and how for the girls, Hagino knew the school play was the most important thing (since they didn't know the earth was going to be taken over.)
I also wish Azanael had managed to tell Mari exactly what happened with Blue and how they were set up. It's nice that Mari forgave Hagino without the explanation, but it would have been nice for Hagino's reputation to be completely restored in Mari's mind.
Well, I have to say, at least it was a good way to end the series.

Jan 6 2008 04:49 PM ugh it has been a nice anime bu I just hate this ending.. ugh.. it was jsut too sad and about the girl in the shuttle.. I still think it was Mari becase she had such a strange look when she gazed through the window.. and that she said that this was only the beginning showed that she knows a lot.. and Michi knowed only that Hagino was an alien.. oh and please correct if I'm wrong cause I dont't have the episode anymore and can't check, but I think that at the end the girls who were escorting the shuttle (with mari or Michi) said whose ship that was.. I wish blue drop manga was more like this anime.. |

| QUOTE (Mowerman @ Jan 01 2008, 12:14 AM) | Somehow, imo, the last episode did not feel like the last episode . I wonder if there will be any OVAs. There were a lot of unanswered questions too. Was the woman in the shuttle Mari? Who was the man? What happened to the other Blue crew member after she was ejected? I mean, the voice at the end, on the comms, sounded like her but was it her? Overall, I would say the anime was well done. Good scenery and good storyline, even though it was a bit abrupt at the end. |
Actually, I now think the woman in the shuttle is Michiko. The man in the shuttle was just some random character to hand that line. Tsubael could very well have been captured by the Arume and still work for them years later, so she might have been on the comms - I also get the idea that Arume don't age that fast.
There is indeed enough room for another season, maybe even with a reprise for Mari of sorts. I doubt whether there will be one, though.

Those are not seagulls. They are terns, just like the one used for communication. |

Dec 31 2007 11:58 PM I began watching this series back when it first started and made it through the first two episodes - but then I stopped cause it was too boring. Something told me to go back and watch the entire series, and I'm flippin glad I did. This series was great. Freakin awesome man. (though it started off ridiculously slow, so much so that it detered me from thinking I was ever gonna watch it... and some of the school life stuff was a little dramatic for my manly tastes) Still ended up great. |

Dec 31 2007 10:00 PM wow... I admit, I cried Y_Y. This episode was fantastic. I'm such a fool, I would never have guessed that the woman on the UN plane at the beginning was Mari. It just never occured to me, probably because the beginning didn't make any sense until you watch the last episode. This is a series that would have a rewarding 'rewatching' value. Spoiler - Hagino!? nooooooooooo, the crying, and Mari running and yelling, and the music and the seagulls! Hagino desperatley trying to ignore Mari and crying as she launches 'Blue'... I mean, as a fan of shoujo-ai I knew you can't have an ending without angst or likely a death, but i really liked Hagino! (Take micchi instead) On the upside the ending worked logically with the series - I would have been kidding myself If Hagino and Mari ran off together and left the world to utter alien destruction : / I was glad to see Mari had moved on with her life and peace negotiations rather than wallowing in lost love all her life Also like others had mentioned, Hagino/Ekaril would of had sufficient time to attempt to escape - But I suppose that defeats the drama and poetic ending note of the whole series I Loved this show, I went in watching it like Ob1foru did - with little in the way of expectations and no understanding of what the show was even about. Came out the other end feeling very fortunate that I continued watching. and emotional < which to me is the sign of a moving show. |

Dec 31 2007 02:59 AM I basically picked up this series to be a filler between other series I've been following though this site. And to it's credit, I started watching this with no expectations and it ended pretty well. Throughout the last Ep. I kept saying to myself, "it's not going to happen... it's not going to happen...." and I suppose with the way events unfolded, they created doubt as to whether or not a "happy" ending would take place. I suppose deep down with the amount of emotion they put into the relationship between Hagino and Mari it created enough desire for people to secretly cheer them both on wishing for them to stay together even though Hagino sacrifices herself to "right the wrongs" she did towards Mari and to prorect the planet she's grown to love. I wasn't expecting anything when I started this series, and it didn't grow on me as much as others have, however I will give it a 7.5 out of 10 since it's not something everyone would enjoy, and yet it can provide enough drama and entertainment to hold your attention. Damn they need to stop ending all the series I'm following. Pretty soon there won't be anything left. |

Dec 31 2007 01:33 AM Well, that was a very expected bad ending, with Hagino sacrificing herself. Too bad it was all in vain really, although she might have managed to save Mari . I did expect a little more drama between Hagino and Mari though, but I guess there was not much more time for character development so late in the series. Come to think of it, she could even still have tried to escape in the last minute, instead of reciting lines from the script. Ah well, it's just a show... let's see if we get a second season |
