Jul 26 2008 07:58 PM ... I don't think I can put into words how much I fell for Chikage's character in episode 4. OMG <3
Though the whole "gay demonic charm" thing makes me crack up And the OP still rocks~ can't wait for the single's release (August 20th according to Nipponsei)
Jul 19 2008 09:18 PM Okay, I wasn't going to watch this show because I could never get into the manga but I'm glad I gave it a chance because I did enjoy the first two episodes. Although I'm iffy on the animation, it's got a great core cast. I also really love the OP.
It has a lot of great LOL moments so can't wait for the third episode to download! But I really really want cake now so much cake, it's awesome
Jul 19 2008 11:14 AM OMFG! I was rolling on the floor dying with laughter at the moment that chikage took off his shades and ono instantly fell for him. the delivery was awesome!!! the rain scene was nice. i'm still waiting for the subs to complete download my ISP's down but i'm so glad that the story is about to heat up!
i am sad that there is very little cake pr0n this episode
Jul 19 2008 05:07 AM Ahhh! I watched Episode 3 and I love it! I think that it's great that they brought in one of my fav. scenes from the manga, and the starting point of the shounen ai... I wasn't sure about Shinichiro Miki playing Ono, but I think that I like his softer voice being used as his "devilish gay" charms do seem to work.
Jul 15 2008 03:15 AM actually, i'm with you on that poonk. i'm not a big fan of 3D CG animation and combining it to 2D more often than not irritates me. but i like how they treated it in this anime since they muted the colors for both the 3D backgrounds and the 2D characters so they blended each other well enough eventhough at times, i see it as "too clean" - if such a thing even exists.
the OP sequence reminds me of making dioramas for school projects in grade school... all my miniature toys and drawn charactes in a shoe box but as you said, it's cool.
if you're expecting something like junjou romantica or gravitation, you're not going to get it. so far, my take on it is that it's more comedy/slice of life than yaoi.
Yep, if you want the yaoi, you have to check out Yoshinaga Fumi's own Antique doujinshi (which you can probably still find in aarin). There is even one in which a group of schoolgirls come into the cafe and discuss (as the guys eavesdrop) whom they'd pair up with whom. It's pretty funny.
Anyway-- I've just watched the first 2 eps and at first I admit I wasn't sure what to make of that "animated-characters-superimposed-on-a-CGI-setting" they have going (okay, I lack the proper terminology to describe the effect, but if you've seen it you know what I mean). But then I realized that I've only ever seen it used in more action-oriented series, where it sticks out like a sore thumb. In this series, the (relatively) flat character animation over the somewhat more 3D background, to me, just makes it seem more like a "manga come to life" and therefore works for a slice-of-life series (although I may be biased).
And-- did I mention that I think the OP sequence is pretty cool & unusual?
Jul 15 2008 02:11 AM as i understood it, the anime was not classified as shonen-ai in japan, but when it was picked up and licensed in the US, they placed it in the category based on the fact that they had an openly gay character.
now i haven't really read the manga, but people and anime bloggers who have said that most of the story only has implied shonen-ai elements, but if you're expecting something like junjou romantica or gravitation, you're not going to get it. so far, my take on it is that it's more comedy/slice of life than yaoi.
I finally got to see the second episode... Again, I wonder why this was categorized as shonen-ai.
This anime is based off of a manga that is a shounen ai manga. Depending on what arts they choose to animate, you will see come actual male relationships. There should be much more like the first episode, where you see the "devilish gay" coming out a bit more. This anime is only 2 episodes in, it is more for character development right now, because each character in the original are complex and need to be built upon.
Jul 13 2008 08:54 AM I finally got to see the second episode... Again, I wonder why this was categorized as shonen-ai. Well, the episode was focused mainly on Eiji (the boxer). But I don't really see any characters getting together and getting paired up together unlike in Junjou or any other yaoi I've seen.
I'm happy because there are more cakes this time. Oh... I'm watching it for the cakes by the way. ^^
Jul 13 2008 04:21 AM Sweet! I was just being lazy, otherwise I would've probably started a thread tomorrow if no one else had (i.e. Thank You biankita!). I haven't watched the anime (yet) but I agree, if it's anything like the manga, it's not really yaoi (and barely slashable), but still worth checking out.
