After watching this I can say that this series is probably better when marathoned. The biggest downer was the plot pacing of the first 6 eps, and you don't notice pacing issues as much during marathon sessions as you do on 1-a-week watching.

some animes excel in different viewing scenarios.

sup guise, am i late? I started watching this yesterday and now I'm up to episode 8.
All I can say is wow. I thought this was one of those ''lolrandum laughs/parody + loli or something.'' I was wrong. I'm only up to ep8 and it's already bought me tears of joy and sadness.

What got me watching is the opening theme. I was sick of my current music collection; it consists of OSTs from pre-2009 animes. I wanted something new so I downloaded songs from shows liek k-on2 and angel beats. And guess what, the first song struck me. I couldn't get enought of it! The OP is nothing but AWESOME. I listened to it for the whole day today. I immediately knew it was Lia when her vocal came up, and I thought ''sht son, I gotta watch this."

Aside from the OP theme, the general background music is well done. It's been a loooooong time since I last watched an anime with such a good soundtrack collection.

oh japan, please make more anime like this

Actually, it was kinda meh for a Key work. I dunno. Probably because a good portion of the cast wasn't even given enough attention. I thought Key works usually have a lot more character development. Adequate history on SSS was lacking too. Would've made for some good foreshadowing for the "twist". Well, not really foreshadowing but make it easier to accept [since the characters being bugs were already foreshadowed by their being "rebels"]. Some things were just so abrupt. Like KanadexOtonashi. Sure Otonashi's interest of her hinted towards that ending, but their interaction was just inadequate in order to make it believable enough for me at least. I gave it 7.5/10.

Oh, and I was wondering, how the hell did Kanade end up staying there longer than Brotonashi when Brotonashi died before her? I'm guessing it's because Brotonashi was "wandering" and only stumbled upon that world by accident. Like, God or the heaven's logistics officer didn't know where to assign him since he lost his memories, so he just wandered around.

Thanks for finally giving me peace of mind. Now I can officially claim that I'm done with this show. All the grudge that's left is lack of more TK.

Oh, and on the Season 2, if it's confirmed, they're prolly going to use the same setting but with different characters. The setting is very recyclable and malleable. It'd all depend on how they'll handle the plot. Would it be similar to this one? If so, count me out. Honestly, I'd like to something different.

Anyway, part of this show has got me confused. Mainly the last two episodes. I've had a hunch that Otonashi was the "bug" in the world since he led a fulfilling life, what with saving all those folks and all, and he only got into the world because he lost his memories. This was proven in episode 12. The "love" bug seemed to point to him and Kanade. Anyway, I'm confused because in Yurippe's encounter with the "shadow programmer npc", the show made it seem that she was the bug herself. I'm not sure if it's just a problem with the translations [watched Mazui] though.

So anyway, who is it? The real bug? The one the programmer was referring to. Yurippe or the two? Or perhaps, the entire SSS is a bug itself? [I originally thought they were all bugs since they don't move on which is the opposite of what they should do.]

No, those translations are fairly accurate as Static-Subs agrees. The entire SSS is the bug formed by Yurippe herself. Yuri was the start of the bug but it wasn't until when Otonashi regained his memories and wanted to help everyone move on that caused the whole "love" bug to show it's true form, hence why we got one full episode dedicated to Yui (episode 10), and how the crisis begins in episode 11. If anything, you could even say that the Yui x Hideki relationship is what pulled the trigger as Hideki and Yui essentially confessed to each other. All in all, the fact that people looked up to Yuri out of the blue is probably what set the tone to begin with and a larger reaction came to after Otonashi's appearance in the world, or this is my understanding that is.

Like I said above, T.K. was an awesome character and would have liked to know the reason as to why he was sent to this afterlife world instead.

BROFIST. He and his crew were supposed to join America's Best Dance Crew, but he died before they got to join lul jabbawockeez [Would fit perfectly though].

i mean they cant just kill off kanade and yuripe.

But they did. Kanade is shown in the epilogue as reliving a new life let alone that 5 minute drama scene between her and Otonashi. Yurippe is just being Yurippe. She disappeared and if anything felt more of a minor character in the end than anything else. To me, she was basically there as a plot device.

I think if its a new season then the only thing of season one that will remain is the world and the background. It really does make no sense for the other characters to come back. Except of course someone stayed there without us knowing since we didnt see everyone vanishing.

@askara: It happens a lot in animes and mangas that a programmer creats worlds or universes and then is called god. Cant give you examples since it would spoiler everything ^^

for season 2. wont the new cast just be a repeat of season 1? maybe the old cast will join in midway or something.

how would the old cast join if it's a direct sequel? Even if this second season rumor is true (note that no reliable news source has actually reported this to be true), the old cast have all been "obliterated" and are re-living their lives. So unless they all "miraculously" die regrettable deaths again and end up in that world again, I don't see a point in it.

As for the world itself, back in episode 11 and 12, I believe it was said to have been created by a programmer?

I think an OVA would do it justice, showing the other characters, their past, and their dissapearance during those three days Yuri was knocked out. A full season is just too much. If they plan on using new chars this will fail, because the only reason anyone watched until this anime got good was the questions, which are all now answered. Characters carried the latter half, and they are all gone. The sitting was awful in comparison to Haibane Renmei...if you're going to do a 2nd season do that one.

By the way, I feel the same was about Bakemonogatari's prequel...I'm worried they make it 13 eps for $$$ when it should probably be a 3-series OVA.
